DP has an old Toyota twin cab pick up, its the style of vehicle that has become very trendy but ours is the old bashed type and he only has a car like that cos he is a builder and needs something that can take a load of bricks/scaffolding etc.
We would have kept the very old landrover but had another baby and it only had 2 seats in front plus middle bit with a lapbelt.
And just to go off thread for a min, he sold the landrover on ebay and as a reason for sale said 'expecting another child and the missus fed up of rolling around in the back'!!!
So ours is 4x4 but could NEVER be called shiny!! And it snowed here yesterday so it came in handy

YES............for towing horsebox

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 05/03/2008 22:22

pedilia · 05/03/2008 22:22

Are we really going here again

Eve · 05/03/2008 22:23

and definitely not shiny!!

Its muddy, got a towbar, boot is always full of horsetack, boots etc..., its has a slow down for horses sticker on the back window.

....and I get vile stares when I take it to the supermarket!

pedilia · 05/03/2008 22:26

I don't, but on several occasions now when I've told people where our new house is the response is "have you got a 4x4 - you'll need one" So now we're getting worried.

Well yes, those are our thoughts exactly (plus we can't afford one, even an ancient one - not to mention the extra fuel).

BoysOnToast · 05/03/2008 23:38

have gotten sucked into these things before, psych. and really cant be arsed to listen to anyone tell me im a monster based on fuck all. ive enough trouble with my own self image without that, ta v much

LadyOfWaffle · 05/03/2008 23:42

Yes, 14 years old and if we sold it, someone else would only drive it so not really helping anyone are we? And better to keep it running rather than scrap it and buy another car - that's just creating another space for another new car to be built when they don't always need to be. Besides, we need it to tow a horse trailer.

BoysOnToast · 06/03/2008 00:29

good for you, Lady.

CantSleepWontSleep · 06/03/2008 08:03

Has the other 4x4 bashing thread even died yet?!

I drive a family car that just happens to have 4wd. It's very handy when you live on a single track lane surrounded by farm land.

WelliesAndPyjamas · 06/03/2008 08:11

Yes, we do. But even 4wd and diff lock and snow chains aren't getting us out of this f#c#i#g snow today, it is so deep

WelliesAndPyjamas · 06/03/2008 08:13

I've been on one of those regular 4x4 bashing threads in the past. It was the December one I think . And I still maintain that I would never judge a person by the type of car they drive, the colour of their skin, the brand of clothes they wear, the state of their shoes, blah blah blah blah blah blah.

scaryteacher · 06/03/2008 10:23

Ditto Lady, except ours is 10 years old, and DH tows a glider trailer not a horsebox.

peanutbear · 06/03/2008 10:25

I drive a 4x4 its an old toyota 8 seater as i stated on the other thread its an N reg so its 12 years old

I dont care who drives a 4 x 4 to be honest and I dont really see why they are hated by the people on here so much

ajandjjmum · 06/03/2008 11:47

Yup - thought I might get another one for Sundays!

Sugarmagnolia · 06/03/2008 13:35

Yup. I drive a Lexus RX300. It's only 3 years old and I love it.

So what?

GentleOtter · 06/03/2008 13:36

We live a good distance from a tarmac road and often get snowed in. It is 12 miles to the nearest bus so a 4x4 is not only essential here it is as necessary as a tractor.
Try loading a poorly calf into the back of a SmartCar.
I bloody refuse to feel guilty about our car because we pay the same road tax as everyone else yet have no decent roads, are clobbered by fuel rates and to hell with walking miles with children, shopping, sacks of animal feed etc on unlit unpaved country lanes.
We have on occasion had to take the tractor to pick our DD from school when the roads were impassible to any other vehicle and that is a 4x4 on steroids.

schneebly · 06/03/2008 13:40

yes I do but bought it because it was the right price and right size for my family. The fact that is happens to have 4wd is good as we live 'off road' It doesn't have a humungous engine either.
