Toys YOU used to have as a child

I noticed in one of our second hand shops this morning that they had a little stroller like i used to have as a child. It is a maclaren buggy, red and white striped with red plastic handles and a steel chasis. It made me remember how me and my sister used to 'pour' ourselves in it and push each other round the garden

needless to say I have forced ds to say he wants it and it is now being pushed round after the dogs...........

what were your favourites?

I had a Girl's World doll which was just a life size head with hair that could grow and make up you could put on it. God, how I loved that thing.....
(why?)

Tommy · 14/12/2004 17:06

You could make up on it....

Tommy · 14/12/2004 17:06

really can't do those bold things.....

Frizbethereindeer · 14/12/2004 17:14

Tiny tears
Sindy
Sindy everything, house, horse n cart etc!
Space Lego! (tomboy)
Atari (when they 1st came out, we couldn't afford any of the games just what it came with! I remember trailing around Gem (now Asda!) after my Dad, going can I have, can I have....answer no its more than the mortgage for another game!)
oh n Rollerskates, when they 1st really happened!

spykid · 14/12/2004 17:33

Paper dolls that you could cut out outfits for, loved those!
Sindy and Barbie, but never allowed a ken doll, Mom thought it was too rude!!
Weebles treehouse
Fisher Price camper van(with boat on top)
Speak and spell and speak and maths
Mouse trap and Sorry
Got me thinking now......

FlashingRudolphNose · 14/12/2004 17:41

Thanks for Simon . Still want one now!

blueteddy · 14/12/2004 17:57

Does anyone remember baby alive?
She was a 70's version of baby born & used 2 eat this special powdered food that came with her.
I didn't have 1, but my friend did & I was so jealous that I fed her doll with something else & ruined it!

whitepixmas · 14/12/2004 19:04

I remember magic merlin, my sister had it. Lots of the games we had are still going strong now - frustration, sorry, mousetrap, kerplunk, cluedo, scrabble.......etc!

We had some toy telephones that were linked by a wire. My dad ran it out of our bedroom window and into the kitchen window so we could phone downstairs!

I didn't like Barbie or Sindy as I had Anna and Happytime. Remember them? You could also get their friends Peter and Sundancer. They were better than Sindy and her horse because they were properly jointed and you could pose them. All the tack was quite detailed and I had all the outfits, Trekking, Showjumping, Sidesaddle. Can't remember the rest but I still have them somewhere. They may be collectors' items soon!
Happytime used to live in my bedroom in a stable I made out of a cardboard box.

The other thing no-one has mentioned is Sweet April. She was a little doll who came in a carry-case with a swing in it and you could get a cradle, buggy etc for her. I used to spend hours sewing little clothes for her.

blueteddy · 14/12/2004 19:19

I don't remember sweet April, but the description of her has reminded me of some little dolls that were around in the 70's called Carrie & Christopher.
They were tiny dolls (complete with genitals!!)& you could buy their buggys, clothes, bouncer etc seperatly.
I had completly forgotten about them until just now!

SPARKLER1clausiscomingtotown · 14/12/2004 19:21

Whitepixmas so glad to hear someone knows of Merlin. It's very basic but loads of fun.

TinselTamum · 14/12/2004 19:21

ks, I wasn't allowed a Tressy doll (dolls with breasts = unsuitable) but I did have her little sister Toots. She did the hair thing too, but I lost the key to wind it back in almost instantly so it was long or long

xmashampermunker · 14/12/2004 19:25

I had loads of smurfs, loved the Simon (but didn't have one ) and liked Sindys better than Barbies. Were all my toys bought because they began with S?!

I also liked Donkey Kong - got it for my ninth birthday and played it non-stop!

i remember carrie and christopher!!!!

Furball · 14/12/2004 19:38

I remember Sweet April, also had Tiny Tears, Sindy and Pippa, gosh those little shoes used to get everywhere. My brother had a 'Little Big Man' which was the boy version of Pippa. They quite often used to have 'a romp' together!!

Does anyone remember a game called 'Watchmacallit'? also had Frustration, Etch-a-sketch and always wanted 'Operation' but never got it

popsycal · 14/12/2004 19:38

my ds still plays with my weebles treehouse when he goes to my paretns!

joashiningstar · 14/12/2004 19:43

SantaFio2 - funny that...I also had (and preferred) butch barbies!!!

My Grandma bought me the air hostes barbie...I was gutted, wanted an action man (still do . Immediately broke its leg and recently discovered there one of the rarest - now worth lots of money.

Also had a set of three dolls - one Black, one white and one japanese, all with traditional dress and their own beds etc - I actually liked these dolls, but preferred my big blue car.

GingerBells · 15/12/2004 13:38

I had a purple Chopper.....

GingerBells · 15/12/2004 13:40

And a vending machine that sold teeny bars of cadbury's chocolate.

Miriam2 · 15/12/2004 13:49

ks- I had a Tressy too, but I remember being disappointed that it wasn't a ...what? Sindy maybe? She had a very glam bedroom suite with a bedside lamp that worked (for a while!) I also had an Emma Peel doll with a sexy catsuit and my brother's Action Man was quite keen on her...

acnebride · 15/12/2004 13:51

the vending machine!!

envy surges up also at girl's world owners - like you noddy i desperately wanted one but mum admits now she just couldn't stand the thought of this disembodied pink head waiting in the cupboard in a Stephen King type scenario

had etchasketch but can't draw even on that

FrostyTheSurfMum · 15/12/2004 13:55

Without a doubt my favourite was my Spacehopper.

GingerBells · 15/12/2004 13:56

I hated Swingball, I always ended up with it wrapped round my head (ouch)

makealist · 15/12/2004 13:59

I can remember getting a talking doll called "something? Kerry" you had to push its head, legs, arms back to make it talk. I remember it being quite something at the time (30 years ago!) still have it in the loft, doesn't talk though.
