My DP was just on his way down the shop for bread and milk etc when a car pulled up, blocked the road, and 2 undercover police men got out!!
They pinned him against the wall, tipped his wallet out and DRUG searched him!!
My dp has never been involved wth drugs, he hasn't got a criminal record, and doesnt even go down the pub for a drink.
the police said he looked suspicious because he was just standing on the pavement looking around. all he was trying to do was CROSS A BUSY ROAD
they made a rite scene, took his name and address etc, everyone was looking cause they had blocked the road.
THEY DIDNT EVEN APOLOGISE

im so upset about it. i mean if u look on my profile you'll see he doesnt look like a drug dealer.

Put a complaint in as this sounds like an illegal search imo....your poor DP.

misdee · 07/02/2008 15:02

is this the new stop and search rules?

igglepiggles · 07/02/2008 15:03

if we put a complaint in they'll prob just say we was doing our job blah dee blah. im so angry and upset i dont know whether to scream or cry.

igglepiggles · 07/02/2008 15:04

the police said there has been drugs going around the area which we didnt know we havent long moved here, but to do it the way they did, he was only going to the shop

They should have given him a bit of paper (bit like a receipt) - I think he can use this to follow up and complain

karen999 · 07/02/2008 15:08

I would still put a complpaint in. They have to have reasonable grounds to stop and search anyone. Doesn't sound very reasonable to me.

Beauregard · 07/02/2008 15:08

Definately complain

I did once on my sort of BIL's behalf for something less trivial than that.It resulted in a visit to his house from a senior police officer and an apology from the bloke himself.

igglepiggles · 07/02/2008 15:12

can you imagine if the baby was with him they've had/got absolutly no reason to do wat they did

OP posts:
Maveta · 07/02/2008 15:14

I thought they could do this now? My dh is spanish (hence I guess in some people´s eyes, dark and well, let´s be honest, middle eastern-looking ) and was stopped twice to be searched when he was very innocently listening to his ipod and bumbling through london undergroud on his way to english classes. They also asked what religion he was he did get given a piece of paper though.

saltire · 07/02/2008 15:16

Were they police? Has he still got his wallet?
I would definately put a complaint in

karen999 · 07/02/2008 15:18

Maveta - they asked him what religion he was?

As far as I am aware (at least in Scotland) if you are stopped you only have to give your name, address, date of birth and nationality. You don't have to answer any other quesions.

ChirpyGirl · 07/02/2008 15:21

You are in swansea?
My DH got pulled over once by swansea police while wearing a shirt and tie and driving a black BMW. They asked him if he was carrying drugs and demanded his licence and details.
They said 'that isn't a local accent, where are you from and what are you doing in the marina?'

Dh pointed out he works for the council but had to show his licence to prove his address before they let him go.

Wankers.

igglepiggles · 07/02/2008 15:21

yeah they was police and he has got his wallet, he doesnt even have "one of those faces". he s quite upset about it i feel like crying so i cant imagine how he must feel, he said it was so humiliating, especially as it wasnt that far from our house. all our neighbours are elderly and im 19 and my DP is 23 i dont want them thinking that we're gonna be "nothing but trouble" i mean you know how peoples minds work

OP posts:
ChirpyGirl · 07/02/2008 15:23

My point with the shirt and tie was he hardly looked like a dealer, he was dressed for a dull important meeting!

kayzisbroody · 07/02/2008 15:25

I would be straight to the police station making a complaint. They cant do things like that

Ledodgy · 07/02/2008 15:25

My dp was stopped like this years ago when he was about 19 coming back from my house. He had long hair at the time and was very grungy they stopped and searched him obviously loooking for drugs but told him that there had been a bulgary in the area. My dp was not wearing a coat, did not have a bag and was on a push bike.
My mum put in a complaint in only the way my mother could which resulted with the chief of Liverpool police coming round to our house to apologise.

igglepiggles · 07/02/2008 15:25

yeah we're in swansea, it was on Neath Road, we live Brynhyfryd. im frightened they're gna come round to the house. we ve got nothing to hide but it is sooooo HUMILIATING

OP posts:
karen999 · 07/02/2008 15:27

Did they say under what powers they were stopping him?

igglepiggles · 07/02/2008 15:28

if we made a complaint what could we say?? all they'l say is "doing our job"
he remembers their names but didnt get their numbers, he was so shook up he didnt think.

OP posts:
ChirpyGirl · 07/02/2008 15:29

Don't worry too much about it igglepiggles, anyone living in Swansea knows the police are a little........eager!

Next time you see any neighbours just drop in that you have made a complaint (whether you have or not) about your DP's treatment, but I am sure no-one will think any the worse of you, you both look perfectly respectable!

igglepiggles · 07/02/2008 15:30

im not sure they just said there drugs in the area, and he was looking suspicious. if he had refused a search they could have taken him down the station etc on suspision,

OP posts:
ChirpyGirl · 07/02/2008 15:32

He stopped to cross Neath Road? How unreasonable of him, he should have just stepped straight out into traffic

'if we made a complaint what could we say?? all they'l say is "doing our job" '

Ahh, but there is doing their job and being overly heavy handed to a young father. If he was scared of frightened at all then they weren't doing their job, they can search people without worrying the shit out of them.

igglepiggles · 07/02/2008 15:38

yeah thats a point!! he told them he has a young baby etc etc im gonna get him to complain, because altho it was him it happend to its made me frightened aswell, if the police thought he was a druggie/dealer then wat if an actual drug dealer thinks so to and kicks him in "for dealing on their patch"
i mean the police have got me thinking all sorts now, i already suffer with depression and this aint making it any better.

OP posts:
llareggub · 07/02/2008 15:52

Look, don't worry about it. Your partner probably just had the misfortune to look like someone else. Wrong face, right place, that sort of thing.

You should however make a formal complaint. The police authority would be the people you need to speak to, there will probably be a link of the South Wales Police website.

I used to live in the Marina, and it could be a bit dodgy at times. It looks lovely, but there is bit of a dark undercurrent. I lived in a very nice set of apartments and had footballers on one side and some very dodgy people on the other side. The footballers got up to all sorts and the people on the other side ended up going on the run after defrauding people of thousands through a fake ostrich farm!

Drug dealers and other such people very often don't look like stereotypes, so the chap working for the council could just have been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

igglepiggles · 07/02/2008 15:59

my DPs old bosses brother, was one of the ones about that ostrich farm!! Martyn Evans i think his name was, we didnt know him personally but he ended up defrauding people out of MILLIONS he s in the nick now, he has to be moved every so often cos he is wanted by so many people that the police are finally catching up with!! the police have said that if he was let out now he'd be dead in a few months! he was finally caught on a flight to new york, They ve tracked him for £26 million so far!!
None of his family knew about it!!! and the police are still watching them etc and bugged their homes!!
