if you worked nights and your child was always in bed and asleep before you went out and never wakes up, would you give your neighbour who was wellknown to your child the baby monitor to keep an ear out on the offchance that they do wake up and a key to get in on that offchance rather than giving up work? (a babysitter costs more than i earn an hour)

it says 21 days notice needs to be given for parental leave

They will pay a good percentage of the childcare yes, go to www.entitledto.com fill it all out, how much youre earning etc without childcare, and then do the same again but put what childcare would cost you and you'll be able to say the difference. The childcare costs are covered in the CTC, not the WTC.

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 18:39

according to that i get the full 80%

Right you need to get the cb in your name then once thats done you can claim income support for yourself which is about £59 a week you will get £17 cb a week & you can get about £40 child tax credit a week, you will then be better off, you can then pay your mum her keep out of your benefits money, then if you ever find a solution & can go back to work you can then claim working tax credits & childcare.

yes i just asked her about it and she said if i do that i will have to pay her more board cos she won't get help with paying the council tax etc.

CB doesn't mean you get a reduction in council tax.

Kimi · 05/02/2008 19:25

Sorry NO

nutcracker · 05/02/2008 19:26

You only get a reduction in council tax if there is only one adult in the house, and if you are claiming housing benefit. CB has nothing to do with it.

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 19:26

oh ... she said she gets a reduction cos of ds.

OP posts:
nutcracker · 05/02/2008 19:29

No, I get a reduction because I am the only adult in the house, and then because I am claiming HB, I then get council tax benefit so pay non, but I don't get any taken off because I have kids.

I am getting confused. Does your mum claim Income suport as a single parent looking after your ds NA ??

talulatreefrog · 05/02/2008 19:32

Absolutely no way, ever.

ChristmasShinySnowflakes · 05/02/2008 19:35

But presumably once she goes back to work next week she won't get a CT reducation?

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 19:39

she's not on income support but does claim things as a single parent.

No I wouldn't do it. The risk of fire or something similar would worry me too much.

Or what if your neighbour was dealing with her own children when your wee one started crying? Who do you think she would see to first? Even if her children were asleep you would be asking her to put her children at risk by leaving them to come and see to yours.

KacyB · 05/02/2008 19:44

Surely, if your neighbour is happy to accept the responsibility of listening out for the baby, then they would be happy to sit with the baby or have the baby in their house?

It's just not worth the risk, it may seem small, but it's not - it's HUGE

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 19:44

she said she would lose the deduction she gets for being a single parent.

OP posts:
nutcracker · 05/02/2008 19:46

Does she claim child tax credits for your ds ??

I am struggling to understand what she is claiming tbh, and your ds makes any differecne to what she gets.

I think you need to sit down with her and ask her to show you what she gets extra because of your Ds and then find out what you'd get if it were all in your name. I know you'd have to pay her some board, but I am not sure she would actually be worse off.

What is it that she gets a reduction on ? Council tax ??

I could be wrong and someone feel free to correect me, but I dont think you get a reduction on council tax for being a single parent, unless you are not working and then obviously you don't pay any.

ScoobyDoo · 05/02/2008 19:55

Sorry but this is all totally wrong, surly your ds is your responsibility & you should be claiming as the single parent not your mother?

It all sounds very confusing.

even if your mum gets houseing/council tax benefits she will still be enitiled to your bit if you are claiming income support.

They will deduct an amount from her rent for you living there as you are an adult, if you were working they would expect you to pay your mum rent.

I think really now you have left uni you should be claiming your benefits as a single parent to a baby otherwise how are you expected to live?

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 19:55

i don't think she is lying. this says there is a lone parent deduction.
