if you worked nights and your child was always in bed and asleep before you went out and never wakes up, would you give your neighbour who was wellknown to your child the baby monitor to keep an ear out on the offchance that they do wake up and a key to get in on that offchance rather than giving up work? (a babysitter costs more than i earn an hour)

that's what she is saying. cos i am working she won't get any deductions so i will have to pay her extra.

Nutty i think you do get a discount as a lone parent with dependant child/children.

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 19:57

it was the CAB who told us it was the best way to do it, so it can't be fraud.

Ok so it looks like she would get a reduction, but I honestly don't think it would be that much.

Just as an example, if I worked 20 hours a week, as a lone parent with 3 kids, I would only get roughly £1.50 a week council tax benefit, i'd have to pay the rest.

nutcracker · 05/02/2008 20:00

I really think you should get it all put in your name, with you as ds's parent and then work out what you will need to give your mum.

ScoobyDoo · 05/02/2008 20:01

But you work & live under your mums roof so you have an income so surly you are classed as ment to be paying rent to your mum now?

Is the situation not different now though? this was for when you were at uni? have you left? so surly you should now take back your son's cb?

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 20:07

i pay her £45 a week but that includes her paying for ds' football class, swimming lesson and gym class cos i don't have a credit card.

when i say pay she takes it directly out of the CB and CTC. it leaves me with about £30 on top of my wages.

So how would youpay that if you had to pay a cm £15 a night?

I think really you need to now claim for your own son so you can then claim some benefits yourself otherwise you are going to be stuck.

Lulumama · 05/02/2008 20:10

jesus christ, if you knock all that on the head, you can afford not to work !!! he is a BABY !!!!!

ScoobyDoo · 05/02/2008 20:12

Ah right i see so your mum claims the cb & child tax credits, she then deducts all she has to & then gives you what is left & youalso have all your wages? yes?

ScoobyDoo · 05/02/2008 20:13

I thought the classes were for yourself? i thought your ds could not walk at all?

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 20:14

we only went to football class for one week - the man said it was suitable from 6 months but it really wasn't.

if you have a limited, limited income, you have to prioritise, no good flogging your guts out for a few quid and then spending it on unnecessary things

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 20:14

yes scooby that's it.

no the classes are for ds. he loves swimming and gym as do i. it gets us out.

OP posts:
Lulumama · 05/02/2008 20:15

so then she is not paying for football classes...

ScoobyDoo · 05/02/2008 20:15

I think maybe you should not be putting your ds in these classes yet until you can really afford them, waste of money imo!

How many nights a week do you work?

Lulumama · 05/02/2008 20:16

you need to find cheaper or free alternatives, nappy, you cannot have everything.. he is 17 months old, a play on the swings or feeding the ducks will get you both out and cost nothing...

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 20:16

3 or 4 nights usually.

yes we couldn't get a refund

mumzyof2 · 05/02/2008 20:16

! NO!

ScoobyDoo · 05/02/2008 20:17

So if you don't mind me asking how much wages do you get a week?

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 20:18

its cheaper than going to soft play cos i have to pay bus fare there where as these things are within walking distance ... just. the park doesn't get me out with other people. since starting the groups i have been much more confident and happy with ds and i would prefer to forfeit something else than those. i can afford them - i have done for the last year and as i said it leaves me with £30 on top of wages.

it varies - anywhere between £50 and £100 a week.
