ds has asked for murdoch, so he is getting that

dd is non-verbal but ds has asked for percy for her (!). I think she would like a pram and we looked through argos and all she pointed at was dollies and prams so I think she will be happy.

what have yours asked for and what are they actually getting?

my ds did want everything with scooby doo on and spiderman! OH and a piano BUT today he came home and told me that at school they had been talking about what they want for christmas and now his list looks a little different. He now wants

A PONY, A HOT WHEELS CAR AND A DISHWASHER!!!!

told him we already had a dishwasher called daddy!!

leander · 02/12/2004 21:12

DS wants everthing he sees in the adverts but if asked what he wants of santa he always says a scooter,so almongst the mounds of pressies hes got one of those. It will be his last christmas as an only child and he definately wont be getting as much in the future. Also it is his birthday 19th Jan so will get loads more then probably.

Festivepussy · 02/12/2004 21:14

DD1 wants the playmobil zoo- Got it
Was excited when we showed her the games for the gameboy and then the actual gameboy in Woolies way back in September and we have slowly brainwashed it into her that she wants one of them...instead of 50 quids worth of plastic that will get binned 3 months later, at least the BB will get used...by us her parents if noone else so she has that and 4 games.
DD2 wanted Polly pocket and has got it.
Oh and the toothfairy game as well...my mums got her that.

KatieMaChristmas · 02/12/2004 21:22

DD said ...a book, a kitten and she has everything else she needs!!
Easily pleased or what?

Not a kitten though

Stripymouse · 02/12/2004 21:32

everything on the list...apart from the pet crocodile (she reckons we could keep it in the garage as I said not in the house....) too much watching 64 zoo lane. oh and given up on the tenderheart carebear, got her a lilac coloured one with a flower on the front and hoping that she will be happy enough with that one

monkeygirl · 02/12/2004 21:48

DD (3) has said she wants the Disney Princess dressing table, an ice-lolly maker and the Incey Wincy Spider racing game, and anything else she gets will be sent back to Santa apparently! She'll get 2 out of 3 (not an ice-lolly maker)and 1 or 2 other things which I'm sure will make her reconsider her rash words.

merrymarthamoo · 02/12/2004 21:59

Ds1 wrote in his Christmas letter that he would like a "small Star Wars Lego model - one I haven't got already and anything else you think I would like."

This was the year he found out Santa isn't real so I think he put less effort into his letter than in previous years!

So he has got a small Lego model that he hasn't already got (!) and some bigger Lego, and books, and Cranium Cadoo. And a little lighting up fish tank with pretend fish that really swim!!! (I kinda wanted that!)

Ds2 wants Cranky the Crane and Bionicle. he is getting the former but not the latter as he is only 3 and delights in pulling ds1's Bionicles apart already.

aloha · 03/12/2004 10:55

ds only wants a scooter 'maybe with Tweenies on it or maybe Fimbles' and he's getting a Fimbles one (more stable and more of a cats chance in hell of being actually able to ride it, bless him)
Also bought him the ELC wooden market stall to play shops, complete with cash register,. play food and play money.
stepdaughter is getting a bottom of the range portable DVD player which still costs around £150. Plus her stocking with the odd video and fluffy socks etc

happymerryberries · 03/12/2004 11:13

Festivepussy, we got the tooth fairy game last year. take care over the 'bed' as my two managed to break it within a few weeks play

I threw it out not so long ago

crunchie · 03/12/2004 11:17

Can I ask a quick question, do you all ASK your kids what they want, so write a letter to Santa or what? How do you know what your kids want?

I haven't really asked mine, however nursery did a letter to Santa and DD 'wrote' she wanted a Barbie Scooter or bike, but has never asked for them any other time. SHe also said she didn't mind if she got something else.

She is getting a leappad, she can use her sisters barbie scooter and she'll get a bike in March when she is 4.

DD1 is 5 and again hasn't really asked for anything. She did mention she quite likes those 'girls world' head things. She is getting a CD player as she always wants to do 'discos' at home.

They do watch ads, but kow that they cannot ask for anything as I won't buy it.

Also in our house Santa gives the stocking, Mum gives Chanukkah presents and Dad gives a Christmas present. Therefore we don't ask Santa for anything.

aloha · 03/12/2004 11:33

I do ask, because I remember as a child being crushingly disappointed when I didn't get the very thing I had set my heart on (a Petite typewriter instantly springs to mind! A portent of what was to come in my life, eh?) and how overjoyed I was when I did (a Tiny Tears). I alway ask for my present from dh too. Don't like surprises at all!

TinselTamum · 03/12/2004 11:38

I don't ask in an obvious way that would imply to them that they will get whatever it is they ask for, I just chat to them about toys in the months leading up to Christmas and listen to what they talk about the most. Since we've had cable TV they see more adverts than they used to, so they do sometimes say if they see something they really want. It is hard though- I got ds a gameboy last Christmas; he had never asked for one ever, I just knew he'd be thrilled. It tunred out that he had always wanted one but just assumed it was the sort of thing I would never buy him, so the surprise was all the better for that really.

aloha · 03/12/2004 11:55

My ds has never asked for anything because of an advert (we only watch Cbeebies partly for this very reason). His friends have scooters and he's wanted one for ages. I just check periodically that it is still what he wants. My stepdaughter is 13 and loves film, so I know she'll love the DVD. She only asked for it because she got the prices mixed up, and was horrified by how much it really cost. She NEVER asks for anything normally and isn't a greedy person at all.

hoxtonturkey · 03/12/2004 11:57

that market stall looks great, aloha, am very tempted for ds. though dp seems to want to buy him a guitar at the moment.... prompted by this thread i asked ds what he wanted for christmas this morning & he said a ball. we may stretch to that!

EniDeepMidwinter · 03/12/2004 12:15

dd1 (5) wants and is getting the Sylvanian family caravan (after much excellent work by MIL as they have sold out everywhere it seems) and my mum is buying her Baby Chou Chou.
It is her birthday 5 days before Christmas and she is getting a box of dressing up clothes for that.

dd2 wants Winnie the Pooh but is getting a dolly, some playfood and a Maisy art set. Might have to add something with Winnie on it too.

TinselTamum · 03/12/2004 12:39

Snap Enid, that's what my dd is getting too

blueteddy · 03/12/2004 12:56

Hoxtonturkey, did u know that the grocery shop in elc is now half price (£20 rather than £40) & is part of their 3 4 2 offer!
My ds has asked 4 a washing machine & the Thomas set that is advertised at the moment.
He has got the washing machine, the wooden castle from elc & a little laptop but no Thomas thing. We have no room 4 it & I know that he only wants it coz he saw it on tv!

aloha · 03/12/2004 13:00

It's Blu's fault that I'm getting the shop/market stall thing! She made me do it by finding it. It was also half price, and looks really nice. He likes playing shops so I think he will like it. Last year he wanted a hedghog and a LADDER (!) so I feel we are making progress on the sensible requests front.

EniDeepMidwinter · 03/12/2004 13:06

ooh thats nice tamum, the Winnie one or the Sylvanian one?

ItllBeLonelymumThisChristmas · 03/12/2004 13:08

Merrymarthamoo - what is the fish tank you mentioned? I am still stuck for ds1 (aged 8). He has long expressed a desire for fish but I dodn't want the bother of having to look after them, but your description sounds like a fun alternative.

welshmum · 03/12/2004 13:10

DD (2.7) doesn't know yet that she'll get any presents at Christmas - she thinks it's about special food, singing and baby Jesus' birthday so far. Might reveal something nearer the time.....

hoxtonturkey · 03/12/2004 13:10

the fact the market stall was half price was the most attractive thing about it!

EniDeepMidwinter · 03/12/2004 13:11

ooh and I might buy both dd's (and for dh too ) a big thing of Lego as dd1 loves making things, I though she might enjoy following the guides. dd2 will just muck about with it but if I don't give it to both of them dd1 will claim ownership for evermore!

MarsselectionboxLady · 03/12/2004 13:18

pretty much. They don't tend to ask for much (apart from DD2 who at 6 still needs everything). A lot of the things that they want go into their stockings. We don't tend to buy them lots of things during the year, but will buy lots of bits throughout the year to give them at Christmas. With DS1 and DD1 the whole Santa bit has gone. So sad that. With DD2 someone told her Santa didn't exist and I told her to wait and see if her stocking arrived. The DTs are getting a couple of boxes wrapped up, because that is all that they will play with on the day anyway.
