Hi everyone,

I’m new here and desperately need some advice!

My husband and I need to relocate within 45 minutes of East Midlands airport with our 2 children aged 2.5 years and 11 months.

Please can anyone advise on good areas to live in, with good nurseries and schools?

I do not know east midlands at all or anyone that lives there so I’m feeling a bit lonely and lost with all this!

Any help and advice would be sincerely appreciated x

Lichfield is nice and is about 40 mins away.

West bridgford is lovely. My husband is from a village in the area, and most of his school friends with families have ended up there. Great schools, some really good restaurants and a nice buzzy community feel. Good luck!

Does it matter which side of the airport? Ie north, south east or west?

SWSUN · 27/09/2022 21:50

45 mins opens up lots of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire so it would depend on budget and if you want rural/town etc.

castle donnington which is right next to the airport is apparently really nice.

Thank you everyone!

So we will only be renting, our max budget would be £1000, preferably less. South of the airport if possible as all our friends and family live in the south but so long as there is easy access to the motorways we could go in any direction.

What’s Mansfield like to live in or near?

Rugby or Lutterworth?

NCFT0922 · 28/09/2022 22:36

Mansfield is terrible, please avoid!

underneaththeash · 28/09/2022 22:40

Avoid Leicester and Mansfield. Lots of other nice areas though.

itispersonal · 28/09/2022 22:44

£1000 isn't a lot for renting! Even an ex council 3 bed house in Clifton is £950

East leake is a nice village
West bridgeford, Wilford are nice too.
Bingham nice
Keyworth

Lots of small villages around

An absolute dump. Avoid like the plague. Beeton, Chillwell or Attenborough are nice. And Long Eaton is ok.

AdInfinitum12 · 28/09/2022 22:46

South Derbyshire.. Hatton, Hilton, Findern, Willington, Etwall. All great.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/09/2022 22:46

DismantledKing · 28/09/2022 22:35

Rugby or Lutterworth?

Too far south.

NotMeNoNo · 28/09/2022 22:49

South: Ashby de la Zouch area, Lutterworth, parts of Loughborough, as well as Nottingham. West Bridgford is posh pushchair central but there are plenty of good schools and slightly more affordable areas, eg Beeston. Melbourne or Kegworth if you want really close.

Is it a regular commute? If so save hours of expensive driving and try not be too far away. There isn't a station at the airport but Skylink buses from Derby and Nottingham are fairly fast.

Shithole

Mansfield is rough!

I would look Derbyshire way. I don't think you'll get a family home to rent in West Bridgeford - lots of students too.

Lots of nice villages Quorn etc. Not sure what Loughborough is like.

Have a look on the map. It's a huge area within 45 mins lol.

🤣 you win my 'blunt quote' award!

Lincoln is lovely, though an hour rather than 45 mins away. Easy enough to get down south

This and areas like Tamworth or Atherstone which have good rail links to London

supersonicginandtonic · 28/09/2022 22:55

Tamworth 😳

Tassen · 28/09/2022 22:57

The villages around Fosse Park the big retail park just off the Junction 21 roundabout are lovely.
Narborough, Enderby, Littlethorpe, Thurlaston, Cosby & Blaby are great places & have very good schools

I live close to there, some nice areas close but avoid Mansfield itself. Selston is nice

Tassen · 28/09/2022 22:58

The journey to EMA takes about 30 mins.
Plus it's only 57 mins on the train from Leicester to London St Pancras.

parietal · 28/09/2022 23:01

If you go for Beeston (edge of Nottingham) there is a fast train to London and it is v family friendly with nice primary schools

Isausernameavailable · 28/09/2022 23:14

Barrow Upon Soar. Just outside Loughborough, great schools, great community, should be affordable and really handy for the airport and transport links. Even has a train station
