Hi everyone,

I’m new here and desperately need some advice!

My husband and I need to relocate within 45 minutes of East Midlands airport with our 2 children aged 2.5 years and 11 months.

Please can anyone advise on good areas to live in, with good nurseries and schools?

I do not know east midlands at all or anyone that lives there so I’m feeling a bit lonely and lost with all this!

Any help and advice would be sincerely appreciated x

Aston or Weston on Trent. Willington. Repton.

Tamworth 😳

I was thinking of the £1000 for rent as much as anything.

South Derbyshire.. Hatton, Hilton, Findern, Willington, Etwall. All great.

Grew up in one of these very happily!

Thank you everyone!

So we will only be renting, our max budget would be £1000, preferably less. South of the airport if possible as all our friends and family live in the south but so long as there is easy access to the motorways we could go in any direction.

Agree with others, South Derbyshire or maybe somewhere around Loughborough. Would you rather a village or a town or a city OP?

Derby probs cheaper than Nottingham.

People are being ridiculous suggesting Lichfield & Lincoln! Remember that 45 mins at 2am on a Sunday is very different to 45mins during Friday rush hour. When are you likely to be travelling? I think I’d be looking initially at places like Shepshed, Melbourne, Loughborough (not the student areas but it’s a big place!). Lovely villages like Quorn or Barrow upon Soar are more pricy!
If you want a bit further afield places like Markfield (M1 J22) or Groby are really convenient for M1, close to countryside (eg Bradgate Park, Beacon Hill) but also convenient to get into the city & nowhere near as expensive. Do you want a tiny village, no amenities or a town with everything on your doorstep?

South Derbyshire is full of of beautiful little spots. Melbourne, Swarkestone, Ticknall etc all beautiful and Sutton Bonington is pretty lovely too.

Aldridge
Lichfield
Fradley
Sutton Coldfield

Babyroobs · 09/10/2022 23:36

I would avoid anywhere that means you would have to go through Loughborough on the ring road - it is dire in the mornings.

TimeforZeroes · 09/10/2022 23:39

Actually A50 opens you up to the Ruddington side too. Lots of nice spots in Rushcliffe.

L96 · 10/10/2022 00:09

Nottingham wise.... (not sure on rental amount though)

  • Keyworth
  • Ruddington
  • West Bridgford
  • Gamston
  • Wilford
  • Compton Acres
  • Edwalton
  • East Leake

There's quite a few smaller villagers nearby which are nice too. All within that driving time, good nearby schools etc.

WhatsAVideo · 10/10/2022 00:43

Avoid Mansfield/Ashfield, shitholes, cultural wastelands, piss poor schools, deeply unpleasant places to live.

Most of the South Derbyshire area is great, as are the Nottingham areas mentioned, but most of them will be around £900 for a run down 2 bed terrace, rental price wise.

Yes! With west bridgford top of your list if you can afford it.

I live in Lichfield, there are a few lovely properties to rent for just under £1000 pm.

I wouldn’t recommend Tamworth,it’s as rough as old poke these days, although I do shop there every week!

UserError012345 · 10/10/2022 01:54

Another vote for Lichfield. I grew up there. It's massively over populated though but quaint and affluent.

Schooling is an issue though due to the amount of people and not enough schools to accommodate.

If you choose your property well, you should be ok.

Nat6999 · 10/10/2022 02:15

DavisDavis Berry Hill in Mansfield is lovely with a very good primary school, £1000 would get you a lovely house, you could get a 4 bed 3 storey house for £850 a month. I have lived in Mansfield in Berry Hill & in some of the rougher areas, I never felt unsafe if I went to the shop at night wherever I was unlike in Sheffield.
