Nutcracker · 29/11/2004 12:00

Rice Kirspies
Crisp sandwhiches

Not all at once though.

Blu · 29/11/2004 12:01

Pineapple

beansmum · 29/11/2004 12:02

my mum ate chalk when she was pg with me, not heard of anyone eating coal though! not too good for your teeth I'd imagine.

Frizbe · 29/11/2004 12:03

a friend of mine craved bath sponges.....her dp brought her a more solid sponge ball to knaw instead! myself just corned beef hash!

zephyrcat · 29/11/2004 12:04

I didnt have any really strange cravings - mostly salad (how boring??!!) but also lots of chocolate!!

My theory is that you have cravings because your body is demanding certain vitamins/nutrients that you might not be getting enough of for your baby. My mum craved chalk with me which i think was because she was getting calcium deficient!

tammybear · 29/11/2004 12:05

ive heard of the coal thing but not earth, chalk or sponges!

WigWamBam · 29/11/2004 12:05

Ice. And sour fruit - cooking apples, lemons, sour oranges.

anorak · 29/11/2004 12:07

I can understand the cravings for coal or earth because those things have a distinctive smell so you could imagine how they might taste. But chalk? It's odourless I think, so how would your brain connect the deficiency of calcium or whatever to the taste of chalk, which most likely has never been experienced? It's curious don't you think? So much inside our own minds and bodies that we don't understand!

Lonelymum · 29/11/2004 12:08

Could I also let your dp know that not everybody has cravings or goes off foods? I didn't although I did like to eat stronger tasting foods a lot, like pickle. It wasn't a craving as such though.

PeckaRollover · 29/11/2004 12:08

I craved sponges BADLY with DD.

smellymelly · 29/11/2004 12:08

Granny Smith apples (cold and peeled) with all 3 pregnancies.

Also this time, 1st trimester while throwing up - chicken cup a soup.

2nd trimester - poached eggs on toast.

And now in 3rd trimester - king prawns and grapes.

MummyToSteven · 29/11/2004 12:11

carrots (frozen then cooked!), potatos, chips, crisps, ginger

Branster · 29/11/2004 12:21

no cravings whatsoever here!
I think the theory is that cravings for a particular food indicate that your body is lacking un or needs more of a certain vitamin or mineral. and maybe women are more aware of how their bodies work whilst pregnant.
as it happens, I always only eat what I feel like (have done so all my life) and never force myself to eat a particulr food or avoid something I fancy. I think I must be in tune with my body needs because I never put on any weight and eat anything (I'll have a whole cake if I feel like it) and I have days when I just don't feel like eating meat or potatoes or chocolate or bread etc. Overall I do have a balanced food intake just not on a day to day basis. I might spend a whole day eating only fruit and one day only sweet things. It balances out somehow. As a child I only ate home made food (cakes included) and was never forbidden any sweets but was not offered them on a plate either. I must thank my mum for looking after me in those days. I hope DD will grow up to be the same.

DD - curry, bacon sandwiches, whole boxes of After Eights
DS - coca cola with ice - gallons of it (we were in the USA for a month which was great because they give you free top-ups)

Fimbo · 29/11/2004 12:43

Tomato Soup (Had to Be Heinz) with loads and loads of black pepper. I can't stand tomato soup now!
