There's something rather nice about the smell of a brand new magazine... have you noticed or is it just me who is strange?

I suspect they fumigate it with some sort of smell that makes you addicted to them or something...

Gingerbear · 24/11/2004 17:02

I hate all the leaflets inside mags. grrr

The magazine aisle in tesco is littered with them.

Jennisaurus · 24/11/2004 17:22

Heat and Nursing Times

Sometimes I buy BBC parenting.

nasa · 24/11/2004 17:47

issymum - I used to work for the Data Protection Registrar many moons ago. Actually on second thoughts why would you be interested in that!

cupcakes · 24/11/2004 17:51

In Style
Country Living
Have just weaned myself off Heat after several years of dedicated reading. My Tuesdays evenings no longer feel quite the same but like bakedpotato I feel "all fresh and purged now"!

bundle · 24/11/2004 17:52

jennisaurus, bbc parenting is no more!

lailag · 24/11/2004 18:04

ha bundle, orbits of the BMJ are the first bits I read from the BMJ...
dh thinks I'm completely mad

stripey · 24/11/2004 18:59

Real - I like it

Jennisaurus · 24/11/2004 19:32

Ok so I am a totally crap mum and bought it once ages ago, I just felt I had to throw in a parenting magazine to go along with my celeb crap and work mag

ladymuck · 24/11/2004 19:37

F1 Racing and Good Housekeeping on subscription. Ideal Homes etc when I'm in the mood.

But I'm very interested in SOX404 . Anyone working for a 10k-filer? (US co)

Aha, don't scoff at that habit. I had a worldclass archive of every wimmin's mag going, for years, piled up in the loo of the flat I lived in. People used to vanish in there till I thought they'd died of food poisoning. Finally DP made me get rid of them.

And then I started writing for them

Tissy · 24/11/2004 20:04

Private Eye

Period Homes and Traditional Living (so I can fantasise about how I'd like my house to look)

Radio Times

and various professional journals that I'm not going to name!

cupcakes · 24/11/2004 20:42

motherinferior - I have an oldish collection of Vogue going back almost 10 years. I am keeping them for my dd! Have also kept every UK issue of InStyle for her. Whether she'll want them or not, who knows! I stopped buying Vogue years ago but I rushed out and made my local Whsmith search for a current copy when she was born so that she would have one with her month of birth on.

PicadillyCircus · 24/11/2004 20:46

I am a terrible magazine addict

I get Woman, Bella and Best on an almost weekly basis.

I have a subscription to Junior (I bought that) and one to Mother and Baby (got that as a present last Christmas so it has probably run out now). Also end up buying Prima Baby. I read Practical Parenting in the library .

DH gets car magazines like Classic and Sports car and other ones that look the same, have the same cars on the front and are basically the same.

I never read things like Hello and OK!; am I weird?

serenequeen · 24/11/2004 20:46

oooh, sarbanes-oxley! my last job before mat leave was a sox related project. i didn't name my professional journals in my list, nor the ones i buy periodically!

serenequeen · 24/11/2004 20:47

periodically - geddit?

PicadillyCircus · 24/11/2004 20:51

And I'm also an accountant - occasionally copies of Accountancy seem to appear at our house but I don't know why.

After the day at work I had today I would rather not be an accountant. But that is going off the thread a bit

PicadillyCircus · 24/11/2004 20:52

serenequeen!

lavender2 · 24/11/2004 21:09

subscribe to BBC Gardener's World
Eve buy somtimes
Amateur Gardening sometimes
Spirit & Destiny (haven't bought for ages but have about 10 copies....it's a spiritual mag in case you hadn't guessed...very Chakras/karma/meditation etc)
sometimes buy woman/hello or those celeb mags

OP posts:
HelloMama · 24/11/2004 21:11

Marie Claire
Mother and Baby
Junior Pregnancy and Baby (occasionally), but find it is a bit rah rah rah, with the £500 mock velour suedette mohair tights and the like
Nursing Times (only for the job adverts!)

I LOVE 'OK' and 'NOW', but can't justify buying them myself, so I pretend to go round to my friend's house cos i need a chat, but end up sitting in silence reading her copies... he he he he

pixel · 24/11/2004 22:58

I had a subscription to Junior but got fed up as it is aimed at people who have loads of money and can afford to dress their newborns entirely in cashmere.

I subscribe to Horse and Hound because it has up-to-date news, unlike other horsey mags which just have an endless round of 'how to tie a tail bandage/survive the winter/summer type articles.

I get Take a Break because the competitions are really easy and I have already won a couple of prizes and got hooked.

Also Private Eye and various cross-stitch magazines if I like the free kit on the front.

Can't see the point of those magazines that are full of pictures of celebrities and adverts for make-up!

nicsmum · 24/11/2004 23:14

Readers Digest - One day they will send me the £250K cheque!

BigGayDad · 24/11/2004 23:19

Public Finance
Health Service Journal
Accountancy Age

(God that lot makes me sound dull)

fRoots (formerly folk roots)
Wisden Cricketer
