Ciao - Everybody Welcome.

OP posts:
hotHELL · 16/01/2008 19:38

oops, lol at these shoes. it is true i also think italian children are dressed like principini, orribile, one reason i couldn't live there, they would constantly look down on my scugnizzo child.
Bran, I didnt' realize you had a stepson, must be a hard relationship to manage as much as you like him. did you ask him if he fancies a holiday with you lot now and then? at 13 i suspect he doesn't want to be seen dead with gente matura e una bimba di 2 anni.
Cried a lot today, at everything on the news, in the newspaper, and then at a beggar in the street. Is it normal? I also cried because I felt sad for ds, having to share his parents with a newborn. WTF? Dp banned me from the news/newspapers. On a more positive note, I cannot wait for the new Kevin McCloud show tonight, preceded by Kirsty and Phil show. Comfort telly.

hotHELL · 16/01/2008 19:39

Here no rain, first time for a while. I am sure Devon must be under water it has rained so much.

Brangelina · 16/01/2008 20:10

It's either principini or tute, there's no middle ground. I blame horrible shops like Gusella, with their navy wool trousers and twee pinafores [shudder]. I buy most of DD's clothes from Zara or DPAM, sometimes the odd wacky thing off ebay. I'm sure I spend far too much on her, there are too many things she's only worn a couple of times. I think it's to replace my buying clothes for myself, i find it so hard these days, it's a mixture of not really liking a lot of the stuff in the shops and being unsure of what age I should dress as I am now very old. Add that to the flabby bits I seem to have acquired after DD (it's true that after 35 things don't "bounce back" quite as well).

Hhell, stepson has been asked numerous times by DP and only gives a mumbled "magari" as a reply, only to blow everyone out just before the event so no one has time to make alternative plans. He'll only say yes if it's just him and DP and only for a couple of days. I don't ask because he doesn't really talk to me. He's good with DD and she loves him, but I do get the feeling he'd rather be elsewhere on a Saturday afternoon...

Brangelina · 16/01/2008 20:13

I still cry loads at things, I'm hoping it's the hormones from the bfing and that I'll go back to normal when it stops. Like you there are so many things I just can't read or hear without welling up, even in public.

hotHELL · 16/01/2008 20:14

Hard age 13!

Brangelina · 16/01/2008 20:25

Yes, the first bubbling hormones. He's started getting quite bad blackheads, so DP, being the tactless git he is, told him they looked disgusting (premesso che DP would be a blackhead farm if I didn't keep him on his toes), so stepson told him his mother had promised to take him to an estetista. I offered to show him how to do it at home with the steamy bowl of water but he wasn't interested, he wanted to go to the estetista. Can you imagine an English boy of the same age getting some perfumed beautician to squeeze his blackheads, I'm sure most would have died of shame. I'm sure it's normal (I don't know many 13yo Italians) but I just thought it odd. Buh

francagoestohollywood · 16/01/2008 20:32

Rosa I think they are really cute!
Mind you Gusella makes those lovely lovely lovely sandali coi buchi (preferebly in red) that dd adores...
I kept on crying for anything for quite a while, not just when pg or b/feeding.
Brangelina, I really think you should go and book a holiday for the 3 of you. Also italian students get nearly 3 months of holiday, therefore he has plenty o time to go everywhere else with just your dp.

Italian tv is dire, as we always point out, but I'm getting sucked in by Un posto al sole, after 8 yrs of detox

francagoestohollywood · 16/01/2008 20:35

an estetista ! no it wasn't normal in the early 80s when I was 13. ctually it wasn't norml for girls to go to estetista that young. does he watch too much maria de filippi?
what seems to be quite common both in Italy and in England is boys (teenagers up) with overstyled hair, as if they had spent at least 15 minutes in front of th mirror. and highlights. bleah

Brangelina · 16/01/2008 20:59

Un posto al sole. Franca, you've really sunk low. It's like my mum who when she came here got hooked on RIS, delitti imperfetti. Italian TV is dire, there's not much I watch that is home grown, it's mostly imported American stuff like CSI (on now), Medium, House and the like.

Lol at the overstyled hair! Stepson has let his grow a bit and spends hours in the morning with the brush and hairdryer. It makes me laugh, neither he nor DP are hot on personal hygiene (or DP wouldn't be if I didn't insist), but they both spend hours flicking and sorting out alette.

francagoestohollywood · 16/01/2008 21:05

I have got a bit obred of American fiction tbh. and yes I must admit that despite my arie da intellettuale I used to enjoy Incantesimo (first series), Un posto al sole and Amico mio with massimo Dapporto (at least 10 yrs ago). Rai used to make great fiction. And I won't get embarassed

francagoestohollywood · 16/01/2008 21:05

bored.
Brangelina I'll invite you to watch flight of the conchords.

Brangelina · 16/01/2008 21:11

Oh I also watched Amico mio. I used to watch the programme with Barbara D'Urso as a gynaecologist (whatever it was called) and another with some other actress as a doctor. But Un Posto al Sole and Incantesimo are too much for me, I'm afraid.

francagoestohollywood · 16/01/2008 21:15

yes I remeber the one with Barbara d'urso! the first series of incantesimo (the one with agnese nano, who also starred in Edera, circa 1992, I loved it) was great, it was a real feulletton (sp?).

hotHELL · 16/01/2008 22:03

Do you remember the sceneggiato with Ray Lovelock circa 1980? Set in Russia or something..

hotHELL · 16/01/2008 22:37

Si chiamava L' amante dell'orsa maggiore, I just goodled it. Era bellissimo lui. E nello sceneggiato c'era pure Alberto Lupo e Orso Maria Guerrini.

Rosa · 17/01/2008 08:16

THat serial with Barbara d'urso was the only one I watched ...Oh no I watched Caribinieri 2 but then gave up when it got to 3. Last night I watched Bleak House on Sky ( BBC Prime) DH sat and mumbled but then he watched Scrubs on the PC.
Its RAINING again - do say it has stopped in Mialno then it is likely to have stopped here in a few hours !
Hothell I remember crying or getting hormonal more in the 2nd trimester I also had huge worries about the baby.
LOL at a 13 yr old and the estitista I would have thought a good dose of face scrub would help !
Well off to do more colouring / building towers until it stops raining and then I will find out that her wellington boots are too small ..I wonder If LellyKelly do any??????

PippiCalzelunghe · 17/01/2008 10:42

pippi noticed how hothell disappeared from 8pm (location location + grand design) till 10pm, like I did ! Didn't you watch the Jamie Oliver thingy after? It was very good (although it didn't say many thing one shouldn;t already know) and made DH go running at 6am this morning and me swimming!
I feel sorry for you lot having to deal with italian tv! (I must admit I got stuck with Un Posto al Sole myself when I went to see my dad ) rosa they are really cute.

didn;t know about 13yo and estetista, however I remember myself going to have hair straitghtened (sp) every saturday when 17/18 [pathetic emoticon] - remember how I look now!!!!!!!!!!!!

PippiCalzelunghe · 17/01/2008 11:02

oh super annoyed now!!!!!! the builder won't be able to start the loft conversion till the 11th of feb which means that it'll be too late for me to fly in march when they do the central heating and all the rest of the work (flooring/plastering etc) will be going on with a newborn!!! oh what a mess. [a ngry][ang ry]

Brangelina · 17/01/2008 11:20

Lovely day today, sunshine at last!

at your builder Pippi, is there no way you can get him to start earlier, pleading a medical emergency. Also, what if you baby arrived early and there was no central heating in the house? Are you even sure he'll finish on time? Most builders take a lot longer than promised. Can you not find someone else who can start sooner?

Failing that, go to Italy in Feb and stay till you have your baby. Check that the hospital does epidurals first (not all do). That way you'll have your family about to help you in those first weeks and when you come back the house will be perfect, no dust, no rubble, no bits lying around (or am I too optimistic?)

Rosa, I watched Carabinieri too, the first series only with Mercuri in. I also watched the first or maybe 2nd series of Distretto di Polizia. It was awful but I felt strangely drawn to it. I do watch the occasional historical drama - there was something set in the fascist era that was very good - plus I like a lot of the Mafia programmes. We watched a film about Provenzano the other day and I remember avidly watching Piovra when it was on.

Rosa · 17/01/2008 12:31

Send the sun over Brangelina - Thought it was coming out and b heck its raining again . AM doing my head in here ..When dd is ill its different you stay in for a reason with this rain you are house bound ! Also I can't really do anything as have a helpful dd round !! Poor thing she is bored as well .

OP posts:
Rosa · 17/01/2008 12:32

Ph Pippi get another builder that is not going to be good at all with a newborn you and the baby will need peace and heat !

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 17/01/2008 13:33

those are the days when you need tubletots or suchlike.
don;t know what to do about loft. will have to wait to speak to dh when he gets home. like you say brang there's always the option of staying in italy with small one although I wouldn;t like taking her away from dh.
will see (this seems to be my mantra these days)

Brangelina · 17/01/2008 14:44

Yes it's a shame there's nothing like tumbletots around here. When it rains the only place DD gets taken is to the giostre which bores me out of my mind. I tried looking up activities for children on the internet but there wasn't anything for toddlers.

I think I'll make an effort to go and pick up DD a bit earlier so we can get to the park while there's still some light. Hopefully it won't be too muddy.

Rosa, can I ask if you've got a British passport for your DD, or if you registered her birth at the consulate? I didn't do either but am thinking of the passport at the mo' (before it gets any more expensive), so far she's been travelling on her Italian ID. Does the British passport also have your name in it? I find I have to travel with DD's birth certificate as well as obviously my surname is different from hers and passport control in the UK is quite fussy.

PippiCalzelunghe · 17/01/2008 14:52

Bran I have got british and italian passport and so does DD. when we travel I mix and match, depending where I put them and which hand I've got free, and found that in the UK they are never funny with us having different surnames while the italians ALWAYS ask me if she's my daughter and whether I've got the italian passport with her name on! WTF!?

Rosa · 17/01/2008 15:54

Brangelina I registered Dd with the British consulate in Rome be prepared to have heart failure when you see the price ( and no you cannot do it in the Uk I tried!) I also wanted a British birth certficate if you go on the website it gives you the costs. I needed Dh long birth certificate , mine and also a long certificate of our marriage and of course dd birth certificate. They were quite quick
I decided to hold off on the passport until we needed it and also that her facial fatures will have settled down . ( Even now he pic at 5 mths does not look like her now !) I think I will do it when mine expires as I want a note on my passport that I am also Mrs XX.. as it is the Uk that question rather than Italy as on Dd document it states can be taken in / out by dh and myself. The Uk always seem to drag and re check. I cannot have my married name on my ID card nor a annotation so I will try for the passport. Also when going to USa etc I will need my marriage certificate as they are funny there apparently.
They have stopped doing children on parents passports now I believe.
I might try and do it all in the Uk when am there for a longish time as I reckon its cheaper than in Italy jsut need to be prepared with all the documents.
Am re giostre nothing here except the TV and me. It stopped at 3.30 thought right we will go out and splash in puddles and then it started again .....
