Ciao - Everybody Welcome.

Sacres the pants off me ( oh already done that) of me as well. Prenatal is stupidly expensive , might look at H&M but Ithink I am out of them size wise. I have mum coming over May 15 so if I get Cvs start of may I might get time to order and she can bring out. I don't want to tempt fate!
Have you offered lower than the rent asked? Or do they have to approve of you . SOunds very strange. We met the owner and she asked round aboiut us before we then went and signed. I also recall silly high costs for the notaio and every year we have to pay half of the costs to ' scrivere' its about another 150 Euro !! I even looked in the COmune site to see if there were any bandi di casa..Solo x coppia giovane and I am not that any more !

dp offered 50 euros less than asking (i dont agree with him, its in our budget and v desirable so dont want to quibble but he did it anyway!). If they agree in principle we have to prove we earn 3 times the monthly rent (will have to choose a few good months to show them!), show dp's contract, get some kind of contract for me (hard as am a freelancer), get rererences, show bank statements, .... the list is endless. PLUS pay them a fortune in fees/deposits etc. Am sure was cheaper to buy in UK even with solicitors fees etc! Was certainly less complicated
Why arent they calling me!!!!???
The agent did give me dirty looks as I rolled up in jeans and trainers, I will never ever ever be able to do bella figura as it should be done! Perhaps she thinks am shabby Brit and so doesnt want to rent to me

Rosa · 18/03/2008 13:50

Make up your contract in English - translate it and stamp it with ds stamp kit ...They don't know what they are looking at and it looks official. I cannot believe you need to do all this . We had to pay 3 mths in advance and that was that . NObody asked to see bank statements etc ...They did when we applied for a mortgage!!

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 18/03/2008 13:58

Yes, I can't believe you have to produce all these things. Like Rosa we paid for the first 3 months in advance. And there was no agency, thankfully.

Brangelina · 18/03/2008 14:06

Hi everyone. Just a quickie before dd wakes up (she's at home as had otite last night and both of us are knackered).

Rosa, about the dress, there was a lovely one in Zara maternity I saw in Sesto the other week. A bit summery but classic enough to dress up for a posh do. Also not obviously maternity in style so ideal if you don't want people to know yet. Prénatal are foul as well as hideously expensive. I bought most of my gear in Dotty P when I was in the UK, there wasn't a great deal of nice affordable stuff elsewhere (and I don't see the point of spending £50 of a pair of trousers unless you're planning a football team).

Exciting about the house Gio, agree with Rosa re the contract. Also do some nice headed notepaper in word/power point. You dont really need timbri as non si fanno in Inghilterra, but then it might assure the Italians. I'm at how much it costs to rent as in fees and the like. I never realised. I was lucky in that I rented from friends and acquaintances so it was all pretty informal.

Can I ask you lovely ladies who have Sky what package you got? Is it the Mondo? I'm still toying with the idea od getting one but don't really want to shell out huge amounts every month, I mean, how much telly can one watch?

Still no school for DD, even the bloody religious ones are full up. There is a posh, but subsidised by the comune, school in a 17th C villa, but alas they don't do after school clubs are there has never been a need apparently. WTF! Do women not work in Monza? I am starting to get exasperated now and am extremely pissed off. DP has left it all to me to organise but keeps vetoing anything that is not on his way to work. I just think it so ridiculous that there is such inadequate provision for working mothers in the maledetta town from 3-6.

francagoestohollywood · 18/03/2008 14:22

See what happens if you don't wear a hat . How is she btw? otiti are horrible, is she managing to eat??

I can't believe it about Monza! Mind you, Italy has the lowest rate in Europe of women returning back to work after having children. Maybe it's only mothers in Milan, Rome and other big cities who work . Now I'm starting to panic as well. I won't know until April. Mind you I'd be the first parent I've ever met in Milan not to get a place in scuola materna. So, instead of doing my midwifery course I could have another 3 or 4 kids...

Brangelina · 18/03/2008 14:28

Lol, it must be all that wind on my bicycle. The otite is better I think, she didn't have any pain this morning, but she isn't really eating and has slept loads (including in my arms this morning in the office). She has got a stinking cold though, so i'ts probably just catarrh. I wonder if I should squirt saline up her nose, I haven't done it for yonks. Is there an age limit for that?

Bloody Monza. Every time I think I've found a solution there's some obstacle. Oh well, as a last resort there's always the Int school, but that'll mean me taking her and picking her up as DP refuses to do it. It'll also eman me working from 9.30 to 4.30 so I can get there in time.

Rosa · 18/03/2008 14:46

Brangelina get the Libermar bomboletta if dd will not blow. It is fab as it blasts the stuff up the mose and it flows out !! Much better than the drops. I found Aerosol saline and a bit of bisolvon worked wonders with dd about 30 mins before bed. POor thing !
I dont know what sky we have but we get Sky mondo e cultura and then the general stuff . We opted out of films and we don't have sport. Simply as we dont watch them!
I will see if we have a Zara in mestre we must have and try and do a trip there thanks for the hints.
WHat a total bugg*r about the school will dp not come round a bit re the school maybe do one pick up / collection ?

Brangelina · 18/03/2008 15:09

Ooh, is it a strong jet? I used to use a syringe and a bottle of fisiologica but I think the syringe might be mouldy now. Also, I might be able to sneak it up on her unsuspecting, she's wary of the syringe now[mean mummy emoticon].

Right, got to go and smear vitamin paste on my cat's paws while he's still asleep. Oh, the subterfuge involved in administering medicines to animals and small children.

Rosa · 18/03/2008 15:14

DD throws a huge wobbly if we bring out the syringe / pompetta when she was a bit better she ran away shouting aiuto aiuto !! The Bomboletta is like compressed air with saline in it bit like blasting air freshner up your nose. Try it on yourself first so you can feel how hard to press. When dd was totally blocked up it hardly bothered her but as she got better she sort of jumped and coughed a bit !!!
But we found it to be the best to clear her nose.
Olbas oil or Karvol at night ...Smelly drops we call them they helped.
Hope you are not too scratched by the cat....

OP posts:
Brangelina · 18/03/2008 15:17

Like the sound of the bomboletta, I think I'll get one a bit later today.

Have yet to get the cat, I tried sneaking up on him but he opened one eye. I have the most furbo feline in the world, it's impossible to get meds down him, even with 2 of us holding him. And I'm supposed to be giving him this stuff for 30 days....

gio71 · 18/03/2008 15:28

that stuff sounds good, will make a note of it for next cold. ds hates his nose being touched or anything, goes beserk when I dare to wipe it.
Offer rejected... but accepted us on principle paying the full whack , now we just need to be vetted financially etc! Should I get excited now or wait and see? Oh sod it, am excited now, we can provide what they need surely it'll be ok (goes off into fantasy imagining walking through the courtyard with fresh food from market downstairs and going up to a lounge with no toybox in because ds will have his OWN ROOM

gio71 · 18/03/2008 15:29

Meant to say, cant believe the nightmare getting a school place in Monza Brangelina! Just ridiculous!

Brangelina · 18/03/2008 15:31

Brilliant.

Oh what joy your ds having his own room. I was so glad to be able to put dd's stuff (if not herself) in her own space. Oddly enough most of her toys have returned to the living room and an ever expanding corner of our bookcase is given over to her books....

Brangelina · 18/03/2008 15:33

Yep, tell me about it. am going to see this place that might be opening in centro if they can get enough people. It's a bilingual preschool but in a ludoteca, however with the huge advantage that they do work holidays and not school ones. Have just spoken to another displaced milanese mum who would be interested so there may be enough takers to open it. Fingers crossed.

gio71 · 18/03/2008 15:41

that would be fantastic! keep us posted

Rosa · 18/03/2008 15:57

festa del Papa domani ....... As dd I detatch dd from the prit stick...
Toys not in the living room how civilised.
Am pleased for you Gio am sure they will accept you now if you can cough up the 3 mths etc then why should they worry ... Get some bicarb to wash the fruit and veg in

OP posts:
gio71 · 18/03/2008 16:07

am sure the reality will be toys everywhere, dp's cds littering every surface as now and washing blocking the hallway but am going to enjoy the fantasy for now

francagoestohollywood · 18/03/2008 17:14

Excellent news Gio!

I noticed that children (at least mine) tend to play in the living room (despite the size of the house) until they are at least 4. I can't remember when I took upstairs (this when we used to have an upstairs: in England) most of their toys, probably when dd turned 3? They are now happily playing in their bedroom, but they draw in the kitchen or living room.
In england I bought a bottle of Calcold, which is calpol with something in it to liberare il naso. They won't let you near their nose. Plus, they've never seen aerosol before, I wonder what will I do...
Does anyone want a 5 and a half year old boy who never shuts up? He ios now demanding (at 18.10!!!) that I teach him to read, when he had 1 yr in the UK for bloody learning it. I will comply, but it's dinner time now. help! I wish I could duplicate myself (we've just come back from the park)....

Rosa · 18/03/2008 17:41

Franca get an aerosol...Your doc will prescribe it without a doubt ...I think they are pretty good actually !
Hope your ds has read 10 chapters of the book to you !!
dinner time here .....

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 18/03/2008 18:33

Paed tried to prescribe aerosol last time and I played my card about them not being used to it, having lived in England for yrs ... ... not sure for how long I'll be able to escape aerosol (I also used to hate it as a child).
No, he didn't read (and he can't really), he got distracted and played "u duello" with dd, who is his usual victim. I managed to cook

Brangelina · 18/03/2008 21:46

No aerosol here either. Paed tried to suggest it, I laughed then she laughed too. Ended up telling me that the humidifier I used was fine and not to bother with the aerosol.

The last one we had though was aerosol queen and pursed her lips when I told her I had no intention of purchasing one (along with various other bits of electronic paraphernalia she tried to push). She told me that all us foreigners had strange fixations.

Brangelina · 18/03/2008 22:05

So, what happens if you put a supposta in and 10 mins later dd goes to the loo and farts and there are white blobs in the water. Would they have dissolved completely already?

francagoestohollywood · 19/03/2008 07:56

gosh sorry I missed this (was watching sos tata and then Mai dire grande fratello: I don't watch Grande Fratello, I can't stand any of it, but I've loved the Gialappa's band for nearly 20 yrs. I PMSL yesterday night). Not sure, I would have said that after ten minutes it should have been dissolved, if inserted well.
Brangelina yes, I can see my Italian friends going , when I say that I reckon they give their children to many medicines...
So far the impression I have of our ASL paed is quite good and she told me that her children used to go to school non troppo vestiti...
It's weird: in England my dc were overly dressed compared to the others, here they are not, non sono vestiti abbastanza... I must be a rebel (without a cause)

Rosa · 19/03/2008 08:48

we don't have a humdifier!!! Our paed did say se avete un aerosol but even gma was impressed when she saw it and how dd sat there ( or was it the cartoons and promise of a biscuit !!)
I watched Buona la prima last night which I find very funny !
Nice day today so off out might take dd to teh park !
Brang how is your dd ???
