Ciao - Everybody Welcome.

I have an Inglesina Tripp as my ' lightweight one'- It has done stirling service so far its been in the hold of loads of aircraft, Dragged over the sand and bumped over the bridges of Venice . Only thing is I had to cut the brakes so I could pull up the bridges / down. The brakes still work you just have to shove your toe in rather than lightly pressing down on the lever !!! It reclines a fair bit. Mt SIL got a Chicco teh really lightweight one Caddy and the foot strap snapped within 2 weeks .It also does not recline that much.
Maclaren semed to have a phase here but they seem to have short handles and I am tall hence liked the taller ish ones !! Have you tried Casa bambino I think its called???

You can buy Maclaren in Milan - all the big baby warehouse places do them. I have the Volo, bought it off ebay UK for £10 (cost 104 euros new here). It doesn't recline but is ultra lightweight and I only ever use it for trains and planes. I have a Loola I use for shopping and everyday things, but it is enormously heavy and wide, not good if you need to do steps.

I think Franca is still internetless, but then maybe in her enforced absence she has discovered RL. Maybe I should try it, I might actually get a book read or my house cleaned.

Brangelina · 13/02/2008 18:30

Sorry, got distracted by DD's whining and ended up rambling completely off the point. Just wanted to say that there is a Maclaren that reclines, my sister had one and it lasted both children. I think is was called something space-like, but you'll find loads on ebay. Also don't get the Chicco caddy it is total crap, I had a new one and it lasted one trip on the train, then a friend got one a couple of months later and the wheel snapped off within 2 weeks, just like Pippi's cousin.

hotHELL · 13/02/2008 20:45

Still feel puky, i basically feel puky the whole time, moan moan. Every evening i think thank goodness today is over.
Do you think there are issues about travelling to italy around the 22nd week of pregnancy and coming back around the 25th week? Would i need a certificate to come back?

Rosa · 13/02/2008 21:17

No you would not need a certificate am almost sure as I flew at 34 and needed one then ! BUt not at 30 when went to the USA but I took one anyway !
Hope it gets better soon

OP posts:
Brangelina · 13/02/2008 21:33

I think you can travel up to 27 weeks, afer that you need a certificate and even then it's at the discretion of the airline. I never heard of anyone having any problems, except one girl at work, but she was at 38wks or something and KLM refused to carry her.

Poor Hhell, keep strong, only 3 weeks to go now.

PippiCalzelunghe · 14/02/2008 09:38

check with the airline hhell. ryanair requests a doctor certificate from 27 to end of 36.

I have called the stupid doctor to get one so I can fly on wedn and the receptionist wanted to give me an apt for thurs , then tueasday. There's no reason why they won;t do it if there's nothing wrong with you is there? I've already booked my ticket.

francagoestohollywood · 14/02/2008 09:58

ciao!!!
Pippi, I'm sorry to hear about your dog
Gio, we bought two chicco caddy in 5 yrs of young children, one survived nearly 3 yrs. I think thy are fab, quite cheap and there are some lovely colours. Lots of Maclaren in Milan, I can go and have a look at the prices if you want.
Hothell, the nausea was worse for me the second time round and went away at around 15 weeks, maybe? or 12? or 16? I can't remember!
Anyway this is our situation:
we are in campagna at inlaws after three days in the mountains (sempre in Piemonte): the weather was amazing, the snow was perfect, but I didn't get to sky because dd didn't really manage, while ds loved it and now wants to live in montanga...
we are going back to Milano this afternoon, to our internet less house , they are so effing useless. on saturday I received a pre recorded phonecall announcing the attivazione of our contratto and that telecom would have rung to come and check the line for adsl, but haven't heard from them ... I miss you a lot...
pippi wghen are you going to itakly?

francagoestohollywood · 14/02/2008 09:59

nonononon brangelina, chicco caddy is absolutely fab!

PippiCalzelunghe · 14/02/2008 10:05

another piece of info i've been just given by ryanair. the certificate needs to be no more than a week old. so if going for more than a week like in my case you'll have to have a doctor at the other end to give you a certificate that allows you to fly.

PippiCalzelunghe · 14/02/2008 10:13

francaaaaa!!!!! yuppie!!!!!!
at you in montagna!

I am going on wedn for a couple ow weeks or a bit more. I'm having my mum check whether the gynec there will do me a cert to come back as I do not want to get stuck there without dh. will have a scan and strep b there so well happy.

what else? nothing really.

francagoestohollywood · 14/02/2008 10:30

I'll send an email with my mobile number, we can text

hotHELL · 14/02/2008 10:44

what a palaver this travelling for expectant women, i don't think i will be able to get a certificate when we go to italy, but i think i will be coming back when i am less than 27 weeks, but what happens if i look enormous and the airline thinks i am about to pop?
che bella la montagna franca, it does sound that you have become a different person in italy. today here is grey and crap, but we've had some sunny days. I hate being pregnant i have decided.

Brangelina · 14/02/2008 10:53

Maybe I was just unlucky with my Caddy then. I have been unlucky with pushchairs and bicycles in the past, but then maybe I'm just too rough.

at you being in the lovely fresh air. Maybe we'll go the lake this weekend, unless I'm feeling lazy, which is usually the case these days.

Hhell, you'll be OK before 27wks, but bring your notes or whatever docs with you in case you are huge and have to prove to someone your not going to pop.

Pippi, will they do a strep B without any problem? Are you going privately or do you have a ginecologo in PG who will prescribe it?

francagoestohollywood · 14/02/2008 10:55

Hohell I didn't like being pg too, weirdly I used to get really worried in the second trimestre, and started to relax at around 34 weeks...
I think you'll be all right, if you think about it, they don't really look at you when you board a plane
well there are lots of things that are making me very apprehensive: will dh find a permanet job? will the house in the Uk ever sell? what will I do with my useless life? will Berlusconi win the elections??? etc etc etc.
but on the other hand I quite like it here. I miss my friends in exeter though.

francagoestohollywood · 14/02/2008 10:56

ah Brangelina, I discoverd that there is a lovely trainride, from Domodossola, takes you through Val Vigezzo. looks lovely.

Brangelina · 14/02/2008 11:16

Yes, we did that a couple of years ago. Tis lovely. Also Alpe Devero is very beautiful in the summer. Where did you go skiing? Was it val d'Aosta?

francagoestohollywood · 14/02/2008 11:20

no, salice on the via lattea

Brangelina · 14/02/2008 11:30

Ah, it's a bit of a way from here, that. DP is intent on going to the places he went to as a child, so it tends to be Valtellina/Val Brembana and thereabouts.

francagoestohollywood · 14/02/2008 11:39

Valtellina? it used to get ages to go to Bormio, did the build a new autostrada?

Brangelina · 14/02/2008 11:43

Probably, though I couldn't tell you, not having been there for ages. DP goes to little places only he knows (and I can never remember the names) where you take 1/2 hour on the autostrada then 2hrs going up windy mountain roads with scary hairpin bends. The last place we went to he insisted it was only 1hr away. Yeah, if you went with Berlusconi's helicopter maybe....

francagoestohollywood · 14/02/2008 11:53

I thought it had stopped snowing in those places in the last 10 yrs... I used to go in giornata to i Piani d'artavaggio, there were only a few piste, but excellent taleggio!

Brangelina · 14/02/2008 11:56

No, lots of snow. We were only 1800mt but there was a thick layer of snow everywhere. There were a couple of years when there was very little, but it seems to have got better again, despite global warming

Rosa · 14/02/2008 13:57

Oh Franca glad you are ok and having a great time. Did you ski as well ?. Havent been on skis for years but used to be quite good ( even though I say so myself).
When I was in the Uk and needed a certificate to fly the doc said this has no legal rights at all. From what I can see you are fit to fly but you understand that anything coudl happen . Thankfully he then followed up with ..it is unlikely as you have had a smooth pregnancy he had never seen me before but he did give me a good once over and decided that dd had turned (he was right !)
My Gyne here did me a sheet no problem and also did a foglio with name dob and due date he diddnt charge me either which is a shock for here!
