So what does everyone think about Angus Deayton getting the sack? I personally feel sorry for him, I mean, if you ask me I bet those top nobs at the BEEB who decided to get rid of him are being a tad hypocritical, and apart from anything else, he is damn good at his job.

Willow2 - oh, right. That must have been fun. Sorry, I've been away from PC for a few days doing bonfire things and dealing with horrendous threadworms coming out of DS1's bum. (Sorry, too much info ...)

WideWebWitch · 03/11/2002 22:57

Droile, uuuugggh, am dreading threadworms, good luck!

Willow2 · 03/11/2002 23:47

Look on the bright side - they could have been tape worms.

Tinker · 03/11/2002 23:54

My brother had one come out of his own bottom - he's 43.

WideWebWitch · 04/11/2002 08:03

Tinker, and he told you about it?!

sis · 04/11/2002 11:25

nice to see that the tone of this thread (no pun intended, honestly!) has improved from the activities of Angus Deayton to worms!

Willow2 · 09/11/2002 06:49

Take it all back - AR was crap.

bossykate · 09/11/2002 10:01

what was all the robert maxwell stuff about?

Tinker · 09/11/2002 10:56

bossykate - AR used to work for the Mirror and IH was taken to court many times by Robert Maxwell. Bit of friction. Might be a bit more to it than that.

I didn't think AR was THAT bad actaully.

musica · 09/11/2002 11:17

I actually really enjoyed last night's show - I thought AR did really well - she's not a comedian after all, and I thought she also laughed at herself which not everyone does! And PM and IH were bouncing off her and each other really well.

How about Boris Johnson presenting it next week? The show when he was a contestant was one of the funniest ever!

Willow2 · 09/11/2002 14:18

Just know that she can be much, much funnier when she is being "herself" instead of some dominatrix style harridan. Had hoped that she wouldn't play a part - but felt she came off the worse for doing so.

Marina · 09/11/2002 19:59

bossykate, Tinker, the "more to it than that" was that in the hours after RM went missing, AR penned a breathtakingly heartbroken obit for him, saying he was a hero of his times, much maligned etc - I think she was the only household name journalist who didn't immediately start telling the truth about him. IH has never forgiven her for it and she backpedalled on that piece of writing once people started revealing how wicked he was. I can't stand her on The Weakest Link but didn't think she was too bad last night either. I think getting rid of Angus has refreshed the formula no end.

joben · 09/11/2002 20:20

I think HIGNFY is way too male and schoolboyish and would benefit from a female host who could put Ian and Paul in their place. How about Daisy Donovan from the 11 0 clock show or maybe Lisa Tarbuck. I think that Angus should have got the sack solely because the essence of the show is lost if the host is more notorious than the celebrities he is taking the piss out of. But that does not mean he shouldn't do other stuff for the BBC

willow2 · 09/11/2002 22:44

Lisa Tarbuck is an inspired choice - think she'd be brilliant and would deal with I and P's schoolboy antics beautifully.

lou33 · 09/11/2002 22:55

What about Johnny Vaughn, I reckon he'd be quite good?

willow2 · 10/11/2002 09:40

I can't see Ian and Paul taking any stick from him - too many young stags kinda thing? Wheras I reckon Lisa's womanly charms would render them powerless!

tigermoth · 10/11/2002 10:04

Yes, Lisa tarbuck would be a good choice. Or 'Mrs Merton'?

I wonder, though, what would happen if the host was someone who has already, very publically, already paid for their crimes, and then undergone a personal transformation, as in been there, done that now I'm out the other side, nothing you say can touch me - it's all been said before. As in Jonathan Aitkin for example? No, perhaps not?

Tinker · 10/11/2002 10:52

Ah, thank you Marina, thank you for that. I can't stand her on The Weakest Link so can feel my 'can't standedness' is more justified now!

I think AR was totally wrong for the show.
She played it too seriously or perhaps she does not have a scence of humour.
Not quite sure who should do it, but it should be someone quite dry.Lisa Tarbuck, could possibly carry it off.Dh thinks it should be Michael Palin, but then he is still a massive Python fan.

Fionn · 10/11/2002 18:16

I think Germaine Greer could be good if we're looking at witty women with a dry sense of humour! I thought AR was very bad, she didn't know whether to play it straight or not. Some of her comments were embarassingly unfunny. It brought out the best in PM and IH though.

Clarinet60 · 11/11/2002 11:55

My vote goes to Jo Brand.

Tissy · 11/11/2002 12:05

I read somewhere that Sanjeev Bhaskar was going to get a go!

Daffy · 11/11/2002 12:31

I read it somewhere that AD was paid £50,000 to present HIGNFY. That's per show and not the whole series. How do you feel now?
