I've only got a few weeks left! I'm not sure how i feel about it. I've felt quite old for the past few years, nainly due to not working and putting on weight, but DS is at school now and I'm losing weight, so actually feeling better about myself than I have done in a long time. What scares me is the thought that this is the last birthday you'll really want to celebrate ie 50 really does seem quite elderly! I think I shall enjoy being 40 then worry next year bout being 41 . How do you feel about it?

oops

wilbur · 08/01/2008 16:51

Yes, I'm going to be 40 in August. Am planning to celebrate as I feel my 30s have been a tough decade in many ways (and good in others) but my 40s are going to rock. I hope. So mostly I'm positive about it, but every now and then I wish I had more of a career to show for myself, but maybe it's not too late for that.

MegaLegs · 08/01/2008 16:53

Me, but not until December so I'm only just 39.

Not sure how I feel. Looking forward to a good knees up with several other friends who are fell 1968ers.

I recently renewed my passport and I was truley shocked at how much i have aged in 10 yeasr when I put my new and old photot side by side.

MegaLegs · 08/01/2008 16:53

fellow, not fell. I have a very sticky key board tody!!

RGPargy · 08/01/2008 16:55

I'm 40 in 2 weeks. Feeling a bit scared about it tbh as i've always been young at heart and have never felt my age. Eek!!

Jzee · 08/01/2008 16:56

On the one hand I feel pissed off to be so OLD! Suddenly more wrinkles are appearing and none of the creams are working! On the other hand I am older and wiser and glad to just be here !

sfxmum · 08/01/2008 16:57

about to turn 39 time flies, will butt out now

Klaw · 08/01/2008 17:00

I'm 41 at the beginning of Feb

Kbear · 08/01/2008 17:02

Me - in March. I am fine about it, was worse when I turned 30 and wasn't where I wanted to be (ie hadn't had kids and really wanted them) so now I have two fab kids and couldn't ask for more really.

Let's party!!

Go · 08/01/2008 17:03

MegaLegs - sadder than that - I had my photo taken recently for new passport and was horrified to find I was wearing the same jumper as in my last passport photo ten years ago!!

MegaLegs · 08/01/2008 17:13

LOL - well atleast you are still the same size as you were 10 years ago.

katwith3kittens · 08/01/2008 17:37

I will be 40 this year too.

TBH. I'm fine with it. My life is a happy one I've got 3 lovely kids, a wonderful DH, I'm just getting older surrounded by the people I love most.

What more could I want ?

saadia · 08/01/2008 17:44

I will, am pretty OK with it but thought I would be wiser by now, also feel that I am now becoming more conscious of my own mortality. But on the whole am thankfully very happy wth my lot so turning 40 isn't a major issue.

MrsMills · 08/01/2008 17:44

DH will be 40 on Sunday.

He doesn't want to talk about it.

I do.

bossykate · 08/01/2008 17:47

i will be 40 in march. i feel fine about it

Whooosh · 08/01/2008 17:50

I will be 40 in April and I think that other people (around me) have a bigger issue with it.
Trying really to treat it like any other birthday but do remember organising a surprise 40th for my Mum and thinking how "old" 40 was.......

niceglasses · 08/01/2008 17:51

40 end of June - meaga something or other on the cards. DH's bday on same day, tho a year younger.......

Do feel bit ambivalent about it all. But hell, who said 'its the life in you years not the years in your life'??

MaureenMLove · 08/01/2008 18:13

Oh thank god! I started a thread about January birthdays yesterday and bar one all 58 posters were younger than me! I'm 40 on 20th. Not bothered in the slightest. You're as old as the man you feel and DH will always be younger than me!

RGPargy · 08/01/2008 18:59

Maureen, you're older than me by a day!

I do feel as old as the man i'm feeling - DP is 26!

janeite · 08/01/2008 19:03

DP is 40 in a few weeks but I'm a couple of years younger. I think he's fine about it. I wonder if, because he lost his hair very young, he's got used to looking (and maybe being treated) as if he's a bit older anyway. I suspect when it's my turn in a couple of years, I will not be quite so positive!!! I hope I can embrace Katwith3kittens' positive attitude at that time - a lovely post Kat!

paulayatesbiggestfan · 08/01/2008 19:04

i was 40 two months ago its fine

lou33 · 08/01/2008 19:05

i turned 41 last week, it was easier than turning 40, i left the country for that lol

LittleMissNorty · 08/01/2008 19:08

I'm 40 in November...and I'm feeling better about it than when I turned 30 ....my 30's were much better than I was expecting 10 years ago...

However, I've just had my first DD 7 months ago.....so I'm an OLD first time mum....
