how do you feel about it?

OP posts:
Unfitmother · 09/01/2008 18:27

I'm 39 this year, don't want to be 40

Fossil · 09/01/2008 18:59

I felt old when I was 25 (15 years ago!) Suddenly I was too old to have a young person's railcard, or do the Duke of Edinburgh's award - as if.

Another who will be 40 this year, in August. But have just had my 2nd baby so feel really happy with where I am at. Much happier than when I turned 30 - still single, no job at the time (although I was living it up on a round-the-world trip so can't complain!) and didn't think I would ever have children.

RGPargy - you've just had a baby - please don't stress about being fat and forty!!

Heifer · 09/01/2008 20:14

I am 40 in March.

Agree re comment about being more bothered about being 30...

Totally cool with it - although bit miffed that I have moved to a new area miles from home so no point in having a 40 partys etc - as billy no mates up here (well almost)...

Also we did have planned a nice trip to NZ but due to the move and spending more money than we had originally planned that idea has got the boot also...

So, looking like a meal out! oh fab... (actually hoping for at least a weekend away someone)...

Sibble · 09/01/2008 20:55

Turning 40 didn't bother me but turning 41 then 42 did. It just sounds old but when I freaked at 41 I made a list of things to do before I die. Sounds a bit dramatic but in many ways it's been the best time, I've learnt to body board and am learning to surf, starting tennis and golf lessons this year, set up our own business, decided to give up work this year until ds2 starts school in 18 months...heaps and heaps.

Sibble · 09/01/2008 20:57

oooh just read personnal training - started those when turned 41 - fantastic 3 months later I ran my first 5km run (came 3rd and 1st for my age group), last year ran first 10kms run...so much to do when you turn 40

RGPargy · 09/01/2008 21:18

clara - i was fat before i had the baby!!

Shitemum · 09/01/2008 22:26

I'll be 40 in April and it'll be our 20th anniversary too. I wish I had a career but maybe there's still time for that. I remember beng relieved at turning 30 as I didn't have to be in my 20's anymore and supposedly having the time of my life. Not that things were bad, I just wasn't particularly at ease.
10 years on and I've now got 2 lovely DDs, still with DP (against the odds) and I'm planning my own mid-life crisis, with possibly a change of country and great upheaval in the next couple of years.... never mind a party

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 09/01/2008 22:51

I turned 40 last July and was pregnant at time.Did not bother me a bit.

But now baby here and he is my last I only wish I was younger so that I could have another.Other than that 40 not a problem.

LittleMissNorty · 10/01/2008 08:46

Morning all

I obviously go a bit overboard with the washing thing ....but its really for the routine side of it. I wash her every morning - face and bum and its a big game....its also the opportunity for me to do ear wax, bogies and nail cutting (lovely ) and in the evening, daddy does bath, bottle and bed....so my LO is washed loads ....In my defence, she does get grubby during the day and I don't change her unless she's covered / soaked and I don't keep a bib on her all day...

I've just put her down and she's gone to sleep without a dummy no problems.... perhaps I'll cut down on the use of it....

LittleMissNorty · 10/01/2008 08:47

Shit, wrong thread

RGPargy · 10/01/2008 12:22

PMSL!!!!

eidsvold · 10/01/2008 12:26

no idea - but I went off on holiday to the US for my 30th - spent it in ALexandria Virginia and visiting Washington DC and Spokane WA.

Now three kids and a dh later - no idea what i want to do. Did tell dh that unlike him I wanted to celebrate it well not just a quiet dinner with us - although that would also be fine as well as my party.

RGPargy · 10/01/2008 12:36

What pressies are you all getting? This may sound really really sad, but i have asked for a dishwasher lol. I'm sooooo fed up with always looking at dirty dishes, however many times i do the washing up, that i want a bloody dishwasher!

claraquitetirednow · 10/01/2008 14:04

rg - i think a night or two on my own away in a spa would cover it!

RGPargy · 10/01/2008 14:32

ooo that sounds lovely!!

hmffa · 10/01/2008 20:33

It's no big deal! Turned 40 last October and had a blast - big dinner party at posh hotel with friends - most of whom were at my 30th b'day party, and that meant a lot. Wanted to make the most of it cos I gave birth in 2006 and plan to try again this year, so will have to be more sensible...no booze, early nights etc!!

psychologist · 10/01/2008 21:11

I am 42 and 2 years ago had to have a brain scan having developed a tremor in one hand. It was nothing life threatening after all but I do still have symptoms. It sounds sentimental but after that I stopped worrying about my age and try now to concentrate on enjoying my life and my little boy. I work with people all the time whose lives have been changed by illness so I say enjoy what you have, change what you can and really want or need to, but don't worry about turning forty! But I don't manage not worrying about other things!Does keep it in perspective though.....

welliemum · 11/01/2008 01:26

Another 68-er here.

Am stressing about this much more than I thought I would!

Perhaps I need a party and a big present to cheer me up?

welliemum · 11/01/2008 01:35

Psychologist is right though, perspective is good.

pralinegirl · 11/01/2008 11:52

How about a weekend away instead? - I'd love that one birthday but DH not the kind to surprise in this way - too much organisation required! The only way I get holidays is to book them, although it does have the advantage that I get to go where I want - kind of like his lack of interest in garden - I get to plant what I want! Although actually buying the new garden furniture and having it delivered while he was playing squash did cause an almightly row last year! He will sit on it now though - lets face it though - they'll sit anywhere they can if allowed.

Would love any ideas for a party or weekend away or something as we have a large circle of friends....as it will be summer AM tempted to do the usual BBQ thing but also something a bit different ?????
