Helloooo? Need quick advice, have a translation job coming up, is it too much to ask 100 pounfs for 1000 words? Don't want to overprice and lose the job. Not specialised language either. Normally charge between 80 and 100, but work with companies who have piles of money. Help!!!!!

Brangelina · 13/11/2007 15:20

I don't know Hothell, I used to charge 15 euros per cartella di 28 righe di 60 battute in Milan. This was a few years ago mind, so I don't know if prices have gone up or stayed the same. I used to charge loads more if it was for slogans, logos etc., or anything that was basically copywriting.

Brangelina · 13/11/2007 15:21

I do have a translation qualification, only it's not in Italian, so I couldn't charge more for it.

What kind o translation is it? Technical, literary, advertorial etc?

hotHELL · 13/11/2007 15:22

Boh, that means nothing to me. Will google before school run.

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/11/2007 15:58

sent franca.

hothell, no idea!

Brangelina · 13/11/2007 16:04

I've got to rush off now, but has anybody got a recipe for polenta ai funghi? Without any meat ideally. It's got really cold here and I feel like making hearty food, yesterday was risotto du zucca, with fondi di parmigiano and tonight is lentil and ginger soup. That's the only think I like about winter, the warm cooking.

PS Franca, I never answered your q about the English babysitter. Better to use word of mouth instead of the consolato. Are you looking for alla pari or just a few hours after school? I'd go to places where there are a lot hanging out, in my day it was la Rotonda della Besana near 5 giornate. You can chat to some and see who's good with kids. Otherwise put an ad in a language school or something.

Scrummy - are you called Bran or like the Ballerina?

Rosa · 13/11/2007 16:09

Crikey miss a day and you lot have managed 3 pages !! Don't know where to catch up on.
CVS - I had it as doc said it would eliminate more nasties than amnio and yes you have it earlier I was confined to bed for 24 hrs then no lifting anything for 3- 4 days. It is free on teh state but I went private as wanted an experienced doc cost an arm and a leg but I think I would have it again - diddnt enjoy the proceedure but had a lovely doc.
Swearing I HATE in Veneto mainly in Venice they say che sborro... it is like a term of oh wow. It has been banned in my house and dh hardly ever says it- but you hear it daily ! DD when says Macker Packer does sound like bugger bugger and I do wonder where she has heard that from .
Italian cartoons if you need any shout as dh has a camion that passes regularly if you know what I mean !
Sorry but Italian cartoons don't do anything for me but I have not studied any !!
I wish I could read teh volume of books you lot do ...One day I will get back to reading but at the moment its only a dream !
Have we frightened Ernest off ???

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/11/2007 16:10

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/11/2007 16:13

rosa I found modern italian cartoon awful. but not sure if the ones in my times where better or if I love them because that's what there was.

yes today I've been here all day. hardly done anything. might go and watch another movie now or go for a nao as feel exhausted.

I agree that isa horrid swearwords but I heard it a lot. gross is to say the least!

hotHELL · 13/11/2007 16:16

googling helped with my query, but thanks anyway.
i never make polenta, sorry, just not my region.
ds wants merendina, better go.

Rosa · 13/11/2007 16:17

Polenta ai funghi - rather you than me I can't stand the stuff. Last time I made pasta e fagioli dh 'broke wind' for hours afterwards - I nearly made him sleep on teh sofa - so havent done it again. Also nonna makes a fab one with a secret ingredient so leave her to it !
Good you have been resting its about time ...

scrummymummy1965 · 13/11/2007 16:18

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/11/2007 16:21

Brangelina, I found this on "Il cucchiaio d'argento"
polenta pasticciata con i funghi.
saute butter, garlic and your funghi
make a polenta piuttosto soda, when ready versala sul piano di lavoro until cool.
Meanwhile make the besciamella. add funghi with their sugo and some grated cheese (a scelta) in the besciamella. Cut the polenta a fette, fare strati in teglia imburrata di polenta and besciamella ai funghi. L'ultimo strato needs butter and gratd cheese on top. Cook in the oven for 1 hr (oven at 180c). My mum makes polenta pasticciata often, usually with 4 cheeses.

Or if you can find chiodini, falli with lots of garlic and a bit of passata. Make a runny polenta. runny polenta + chiodini al sugo + fried egg on top= yummie

hotHELL · 13/11/2007 19:44

mmm, buono. Tu ce l'hai in Italiano o in Inglese il Cucchiaio d'argento?

francagoestohollywood · 13/11/2007 19:52

Italiano

OP posts:
hotHELL · 13/11/2007 20:00

E come lo trovi?

francagoestohollywood · 13/11/2007 20:41

very good for the basics (how to make salse/pasta frolla/arrosti/some ideas for vegs. why?

OP posts:
Brangelina · 13/11/2007 20:47

Ooh, that one with the chiodini sounds like the kind of thing I'm after. The other one sounds yummy too but I'd probably not be able to get up from my seat after that! Best reserved for after a day skiing vigourously, methinks.

francagoestohollywood · 13/11/2007 20:50

yes. another good thing with polenta is fry the leftovers and fry an egg on top. unbeatable . do you go skying?

Thinking of buying for a present. For myself!

PippiCalzelunghe · 14/11/2007 10:34

I almost bought it for myself as well last time I was in italy, but it was too heavy! I am not sure though whether to get that one or Il Talismano della Felicita' di Ada Boni. Sembra piu' tradizionale.

It's on my list of Xmas presents from italy. Must be in italian though.
