Welcome everyone

step away from the tv set now pippi!!! I'm joking, I haven't seen Marie Antoinette, but watched Sophia Coppola's Lost in translation and I found it enormously silly. brrrr terribile. The virgins suicide was only marginally better, thanks to a very young and fit Josh Harnett. Imho of course. How is it?
Gaskell is a bit boring. Good plot, some good personaggi, but could have been written in 200 pages instead of 600.

francagoestohollywood · 13/11/2007 09:53

Ah, I used to like Carver a lot.

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 13/11/2007 09:56

this is silly too...

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/11/2007 09:57

incredibily silly.

hotHELL · 13/11/2007 09:57

No, I haven't seen it, how decadent to watch a dvd in hte morning, wow. I sort of liked her previous ones, but also find them a bit superficial, but they are very beautiful, I think she annoys me because she is a figlia di papa'. Isn't she married to somebody really cool and trendy? (too much reading of Grazia)

I am reading Elephant by Carver, not very cheery I must say. You can borrow it if you want.

hotHELL · 13/11/2007 09:59

You are very brave franca to read 600 pages of a book you find a bit boring.

hotHELL · 13/11/2007 10:02

Brave or a bit mad..

francagoestohollywood · 13/11/2007 10:07

Lol. It is boring, but not boring enough, I want to see how it goes (it is not even finished, she died while writing it).
well her movies are very stylish, she'd make a great fashion stylist for Id magazine, and possibly vogue paris. but not a good director. she was married to the guy who made being john malkovich, which was crap (imho). she is now married/had a baby with some french musician... (I love gossips)

OP posts:
hotHELL · 13/11/2007 10:13

Lol, at 'she died whilst writing it' - it must be terribly boring.

Her first hubby made very good music videos. Again his features are a 1 idea movie.

Being married to a french musician sounds very exciting. I agree with you Franca, she should work in fashion, and probably would if she wasn't a Coppola.

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/11/2007 10:13

the scenes are beautiful, the colours the clothed etc but there's not much more to it TBH. It seemed promising in the beginning but looses it pretty quickly IMO. Last week I watched chick flick 'the holiday' with cameron diaz and was much more enjoyable than this: at least it was what it was without pretending to be highbrow. and I hate when movies do not follow the true story/history.

I know it's very decadent, I am trying to do all these things I am normally not able to, these things that I used to do before DD.

I must say me being at home, as long as it's without DD for a couple of days, makes life much easier and relaxed for everybody. everything is much more organized, the place is in a decent state, we eat properly, we are so less stressed. I am so looking forward to stop working. At least for a year after the new LO. Then I'm sure I'll work something else out. But I am fed up with rushing around like a bee: this is not life.

hotHELL · 13/11/2007 10:15

Apparently her daughter is called Romy. WTF?

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/11/2007 10:19

I'm quite bored and annoyed with this now... I'd rather get up and do some tidying...

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/11/2007 10:20

shneider??? oh didn't you love sissy when you were a kid? i must have watched it a million times.

francagoestohollywood · 13/11/2007 10:20

Like Romy Schneider. She was so beautiful, do you remember her? There was an old picture in black and white of v. young romy schneider and alain delon, they were a monument to beauty.
Pippi, yes, the holiday is more honest at least. But it starred my least fav actors possible, Jude Law is terrible in it, playing the devote father ahahahahahahahahaha.
Pippi, yes, sounds like a good plan.

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 13/11/2007 10:21

pippi x posted (loved sissy as a child, watched at least 5 imes)

hotHELL · 13/11/2007 10:22

I think if you can afford it, and you don't miss the job stimulation, is great to have days at home without kids around. Just to be oneself, etc

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/11/2007 10:23

hate jude lowe too. he's not cute as people say and he's an idiot, charmless as well.

they're about to cut her head? do you know what happened to the kids? was it like the Tzar of russia or where they spared? don't remember.

hotHELL · 13/11/2007 10:25

Yes, i like Romy Schneider, she was sooo lovely, and such a terrible end, and those sissy movies....and that fantastic movie with alain delon in the swimming pool. I still find it's a silly name for a baby though!

hotHELL · 13/11/2007 10:26

no idea what happened to the kids....off to do some shopping round the corner and then more laziness.
agree jude law is an idiot, and sienna miller too, now that i think of it, 1/2 a brain cell between them.

francagoestohollywood · 13/11/2007 10:31

last message and then I'll go (lots of commissioni to do). don't know what happened to the children, I don't tjhink they were killed. One died at a very young age, according, naturalmente, to lady oscar. heartbreaking puntata that one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
hotHELL · 13/11/2007 10:35

lol at lady oscar. can never forget when andre' dies. how dared they doing that? what about a happy ending?

not sure how historically accurate lady oscar was. but fantastic telly. was in love with andre' especially after he lets his hair grow and becomes a bit grungier. off too, ciao

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/11/2007 10:39

it's finished. an idiotic end as well. please! I think it was cr*p! a bit of an insult to history and to marie antoinette herself. I am not sure how clever she was but certainly there must have been more the her than this. I cannot believe I am agreeing with the reviews, I thought they must have been to hard on her.

I am sure after a while I'll miss the stimulation of work but as my current job does not give me that it's not going to be missed. I'll look for something else later or do a complete change or do the MA I was supposed to do ages ago.

Money wise, yes we could do it. You always get used to whatever money you have so it'll be hard not to have my salary because of that. but it's greed more than necessity so realistically we can do it.

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/11/2007 10:45

okay this is my last one too and then I'm off to do my commissioni.
First - I have got the complete DVD series of lady oscar here at home!!! (thanks for reminding me, that's what I should be watching everymorning for breakfast!!!!) (I also have heidi, remi, candu candy, mimi ayuara and paul and mina - how pathetic is that!???)
It seems it was quite accurate, one child dies very young before they get captured. apparently another one dies after of malnutrition and ill-treatments by the guard after. the eldest daughter survives, Marie Terese - not sure what she went to do though.

okay after this piece of history firsy thing in the morning I am off.

later...

hotHELL · 13/11/2007 11:39

Mimi e' quella della palla a volo? Mi piaceva anche Jenny la tennista...

scrummymummy1965 · 13/11/2007 12:00

Hi - you all sound so much fun. My Mum is Italian and I wish she was here to read some of your words and translate for me. (It would have been fabulous if she would have spoken in italian to my brother and I as we were growing up. She was actually reminiscing on Saturday about what my Grandma used to call her - "puttanna" and "vacha".
