Welcome everyone

OP posts:
Rosa · 02/01/2008 15:10

Glad you had a good time Brangelina . We come back next Monday . We were hoping to go to an animal park tom but forecast is colder than cold and the wind is really blowing. Think we might give it a miss. So nursery is open I thought it was all shut til next week .
Agree re the packing am having cold chills even thinking about it. We want to try and bring the back /pack carrier with us as well but don't think we will manage it somehow as have 3 cases and buggy !
But did Dp miss you ???? Why don't you get him english lessons for next birthday ? Dh has slowly improved in the years we have been together and it makes my life easier !

Brangelina · 02/01/2008 15:18

I think DP missed us though he won't admit it. When I got back he'd cleaned the whole house and made pizzoccheri pasta by hand.

Is your DP capable of more than a one minute conversation? Can he keep up with people talking around him? Mine can't do either which means I'm constantly translating/explaining things to him. He is convinced that he is crap at languages so will not bother learning, although he's been picking things up gradually when I talk to DD and can sing Baa Baa black sheep and other ditties, so there has been some progress.

It is handy, though, when talking about him on the phone and he doesn't understand, so there are plus sides to this I suppose.

Rosa · 02/01/2008 15:23

He can talk ok for just about longer than a minute but when in a room e.g party atmosphere with lots of conversations he does get in a pickle so sticks to one to one. At a dinner table he has to concentrate hard and does not enjoy it that much but he is far better with family now ( and taking the mickey out of his MIl !)he can sing a few nursery rhymes and seeing as dd is overloaded with library books he has no choice but to read some to her. He does understand what I say on the phone.
Well done about the cleaning - my dh will help but zero for the cooking it would be a take out pizza !!!!

PippiCalzelunghe · 02/01/2008 17:38

bran my Dh is like your the other way round. I do enjoy going home on my own as when we go together it is a pain going out with friend because of the translation (which is never good enough anyway and jokes get missed, etc). He's actually quite good with language (he's fluent in another one already) it's just living in england that does not help. he's very good with DD though. he tries to speak to her in itaqlian as much as he can - which is a laugh at times.

rosa we did go to an animal park today and was great - albeit very cold. as DD is obsessed with junge book she was in hysterics at seeing bagheera (sp?) and sheer-khan and Kaa the snake (which we are watching now for the millionth time over).

franca great you are having a good busy time.

hothell, sorry wasn't around. DH has been monopolising the computer as we got turned down for a loft conversion and he's spending every possible minute trying to find a way of having it done as big as we wanted . I cannot think how I do lentils anyway, I think like franca but pg makes me quite daft at times.

Rosa · 03/01/2008 18:00

too cold for us today we did not even try wind was blowing but we have not had snow ! Might try Saturday now. really not looking forward to going back to Italy ....But hey ho must be done !!
Franca are you connected yet ???

francagoestohollywood · 03/01/2008 19:32

it's snowing

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 03/01/2008 19:42

rosa, no, we are not connected as yet. we are still livinbg at my parents' (tomorrow they'll come and connect the gas hopefully), the children are in the countryside at my inòaws' (will go tomorrow). dh will fly back to the uk on saturday.
basically we are homeless . I'm joking, the flat is coming along nicely, but it takes lots of time.
today I managed to go to asl and get a medico di famiglia and pediatra.
brangelina, next week will be hectic (inserimento all'asilo, meeting with ds's prinary school etc), but I'd love to meet you soon

how are you all? any news/gossip form goo old uk?
today I bought the guardian, I was suffering from nostalgia.

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 03/01/2008 20:55

it's strange to imagine you not in exeter franca tbh. you do sound like rosa does when is in the uk though I must say, which is a good thing!

francagoestohollywood · 04/01/2008 17:09

. I'm actually exhilarated by the amount of snow. we took a train this afternoon to join the children in the country and there's lots!!! it's lovely, we went down the hill with the sleigh. ds is def ready (or at least willing) to learn to ski...
how is the bump doing? is it big?

OP posts:
Rosa · 04/01/2008 17:52

You are right Pippi Franca you do sound happy .. Windy and cold here no snow in the west country but horrible rain !!

francagoestohollywood · 04/01/2008 18:01

I was somehow convinced that it was snowing there as well, as they say that this perturbazione is coming from the west... shame , it did snow a few times in Exeter over the years, and apparently it snows a lot on dartmoor.
tell me everything about the uk, I do miss it (I'm worried of getting left out from the English pop culture), yesterday I nearly bought a copy of OK magazine with jordan and peter andre on the cover, as a token of my inglesitudine .
I'm also planning to buy more dvds (peppa pig in particular) on amazon.

PIPPI the are selling the dvds of PELINE, do you remember this?

OP posts:
hotHELL · 04/01/2008 19:23

oh, franca you do sound happy in milan, it is strange you are not in exeter anymore, non moans about the wind from you i guess...my news is that we are practising getting pregnant, great fun!

PippiCalzelunghe · 04/01/2008 21:24

brava brava keep practising! that's why you're not here as much .

franca which is peline? I vaguely seem to remember the name.

no snow here either, horrible rain. planning to go to pg for a few days in jan/feb but need to wait and see when plumber changes the heating.

what else...

Rosa · 05/01/2008 15:57

Well Dh and I talked about No2 for 2008 and he said that I should loose a few more kili first and he is preoccupato x la casa cosi vediamo ...But Hot go for it and enjoy the practice.
Franca you will soon want to stop buying OK and will save for the odd edition of Good housekeeping or woman and home !! I find amazon great and try to bulk buy to keep postage costs down . What is it with Peppa Pig DD is just not bothered by it but some kid was going mad in next as she wanted a peppa pig t shirt !

francagoestohollywood · 05/01/2008 17:11

brava hothell , keep practising!!
Pippi, Peline was quite depressing really, she is very poor looking for her grandad, and the sigla went: marcondirondirondirondero cigola la ruota sul sentiero...

Rosa,I have a soft spot for country living and Living etc...
Peppa pig is quite big at the franca's, has replaced maisy in dd's affection (and ds likes it as well...). Max and ruby is still quite big as well, wil have to buy dvd. and the wonderpets, but it's impossible to find...

hotHELL · 05/01/2008 18:24

lol at cigola la routa sul sentiero.....

have been in foul mood all day, very moody and antipatica, basically pmt! che pppalle!

francagoestohollywood · 05/01/2008 19:50

mind you hothell that when pg with ds I was in a fould mood for months...

dh flew back to the UK, me and the children are stuck at my parents until the flat is habitable (no gas for cooking no washing machine and still lots of mess) I hope to move soon as I cannot stand striscia la notizia. heeeelp!

Hothell, I haven't read for weeks... need some inspiration, what are you reading?

OP posts:
hotHELL · 05/01/2008 21:09

Sto leggendo Il romanzo di Ferrara di quello scrittore che mo' non mi ricordo come si chiama.... quello dei Finzi Contini!

It;s a bore no, being homeless and being a guest, still it does mean your parents can help you with the kids.

I am lurking on the Conception threads of Mumsnet, lots of people obsessively pregnancy symptoms spotting, very scary. Definite pmt, don't feel like cleaning though, which is what i do when i get my period. Hopefully that will kick in tomorrow and then I can clean up our home which is a disgusting mess.

francagoestohollywood · 06/01/2008 08:51

I loved Il giardino dei finzi contini (it's bassani, isn't it), and the movie too (I was obsessed by helmut berger when I was a child).
I do suffer from pmt as well, I must be unbearable actually. can you spend the day under the duvet with books and magazines and no parental responsibilities??

Yes, our parents helped a lot in the last two weeks. it does make things incredibly easier.

todaywe are all going for lunch at my sil's parents, which means marvellous food

francagoestohollywood · 06/01/2008 08:53

BRANGELINA, are you aware of the exitence of a "benvenuto club monza" of english/american expats? I foun the newsletter the other day!

PippiCalzelunghe · 06/01/2008 12:06

very jealous of all the help and lunch at relatives etc. it must feel so so different from the isolation in the uk.
i think we are quite an isolated family anyway although I am sure it's also because there's no choice really. don't know...
certainly would do with help,: kids away at nonni for the weekend, afternoon at the gym or cinema or whatever... ah pippi drems on.
pippi is in a foul mood too, feel a bit unloved and uncared for really (which is very unfair tbh but there you go, pg hormones). off to tidy uo and cook a roast, I've sent Dh and DD to the swimming pool as Dh has to learn to spend some time alone with her before DD2 arrives (he loves it when he does it but I have to push it as he rather be all together).

DD is sleeping much better recently, thank god.
Rosa are you back in venice?

do not remember peline. however re silly songs, we bought a cd in italy and now DD sings 'la bella lavanderina' 'madamadore' 'marcondirondirondello' and similar.

hotHELL · 06/01/2008 12:30

E' bellissima Madama Dore' e anche il Marcondirondello.
STill in a foul mood, waiting for my period to come which is when I normally begin to feel a bit more relaxed. Lots of telly for ds today, as I cannot be bothered.

francagoestohollywood · 06/01/2008 17:59

Hothell sorry to hear your mood is still foul. I also find that my mood tends to worsen on sundays. never liked them.
Yes, it is nice and helpful to have family around, today lots of people were keen to entertain the dc and I manage to have adult conversations. However I'm looking forward for our house to be ready as I feel a bit "in prestito" at the moment. Also, my mum is fantastically helpful, but very controlling and I feel like a 12 yrs old.
I think rosa is flying back tomorrow.
Pippi yuo sound very active how did the roast turn out? mine are always too dry...
