Austin - I like but, you know, theres something there iyswim.

Rohan - dh and I keep saying it as Rowan but I prefer Rohan iyswim, so if we call him Rohan will we be thought of as numptys who have changed the spelling of name?

Jansen - but I would have to pronounce it Yansen or I'd feel daft, then I'd feel daft saying Yansen when we're clearly not sweedish/finnish.

Jenson - does it sound sad and does it make you think that we've just called him after a racing driver?

Lewin - Cant make my mind up on it.

Honesty please!

If I had to choose it would be Rohan. If you say it as Rowan you may as well spell it like that or the poor child will spend his life correcting people.

JARM · 29/10/2007 13:52

I like Rohan and I like Jenson.

Austin and Jansen are yuk imo.

Lewin is a bit wierd!

krabbiepatty · 29/10/2007 13:52

Lewins is a shirt shop, no? Rohan the best of these

flowerybeanbag · 29/10/2007 13:53

Rohan is a waterproof coat, if you go for that, spell it Rowan.

I wouldn't go for Janson or Jenson for the reasons you've said.

mynameis · 29/10/2007 13:54

Not Jenson cos it automatically brings racing driver to mind. Another vote for Rowan here

PrincessAfterLife · 29/10/2007 13:54

This is a tough one. I think I only like Austin. The others don't appeal at all - sound a bit 'harsh' imo.

jezzemx · 29/10/2007 13:54

I quite like them all but I love Lewin It's unusual and lovely. I've never heard of it being used as a christian name before.
It all depends on your surname of course.
I presume they all go well with it.
and big congratulations

flack · 29/10/2007 13:54

Don't like any of them, sorry...

flowerybeanbag · 29/10/2007 13:55

see?

Rowan is a lovely name, chosen by people with wonderful taste.

Never heard of Lewins as a shop but it could very well be one somewhere!

Its just when I see Rowan, I think of Rowan Atkinson and thats not nice.

GooseyLoosey · 29/10/2007 13:56

I like Jansen and Jenson but then my background is partly scandinavian and I would pronounce them both with an initial "y".

I like Rowan but would think carefully about the unusual spelling. My ds has an oddly spelled name (he is half Irish and we have used the Irish spelling) and it is difficult. Also, I think people are judgemental about unsual spellings.

I hear Austin and I think Austin Powers which is not a good association.

That said, your child, your choice.

krabbiepatty · 29/10/2007 13:56

Tis all over the City in London so if he ended up as a banker, he might get teased by the other bankers...

NBheebieGeebies · 29/10/2007 13:57

lol at Jewsons

Not bothered about it being surnamey.

DS1 is Ellis and I've only ever heard that as a surname.

OP posts:
lissiethevampireslayer · 29/10/2007 13:57

ds was nearly rowan

donnie · 29/10/2007 13:57

what's wrong with normal names?

ShaunOfTheThread · 29/10/2007 13:57

None of them are the sorts of ames I personally would go for. But then I'm a boring-standard-Biblical-name kind of a gal.

Rohan might make everyone think you are Lord of the Rings anoraks.

NBheebieGeebies · 29/10/2007 13:58

Oh I knew Rohan was a shop. Never heard of Lewins before though.
It was dh's suggestion and he said its a welsh name?

OP posts:
krabbiepatty · 29/10/2007 13:58

Why not revive some 70s names (as I am always urging others)? Steve? Terry?

BiancaCastafiore · 29/10/2007 13:59

I like Rohan, but would spell it Rowan (although I do like the look of Rohan with a 'h' )

NBheebieGeebies · 29/10/2007 13:59

Oh yeah LOTR. Isnt it a place in the book?

Dont do "normal" names. I really dont like them.
Plus they would share it with about 2 thirds of his class mates.

NBheebieGeebies · 29/10/2007 14:00

Terry!

FlameInHell · 29/10/2007 14:00

not keen on any tbh....

Rohan I just thought of "Riders of..." but then wasn't sure if they were the riders of somewhere similar sounding

nailpolish · 29/10/2007 14:01

dont like any of them
they sound like yu are trying too hard

if i had a boy id call him Rebus. or Ronan.

Heated · 29/10/2007 14:02

I too like Rowan a lot, esp if you are going to pn this way. Rohan definitely needs to be pn with the H sound imo but it's still a good name.

Lewin is a bit unusual, first I though it was Letwin, as in politician Oliver which wasn't a pleasant image. I prefer Louis - pn Lou-ee.

Austin, Jansen and Jenson - avoid if you want to be unusual. My hb's school have quite a rough intake and these names feature in the year lists.
