Austin - I like but, you know, theres something there iyswim.

Rohan - dh and I keep saying it as Rowan but I prefer Rohan iyswim, so if we call him Rohan will we be thought of as numptys who have changed the spelling of name?

Jansen - but I would have to pronounce it Yansen or I'd feel daft, then I'd feel daft saying Yansen when we're clearly not sweedish/finnish.

Jenson - does it sound sad and does it make you think that we've just called him after a racing driver?

Lewin - Cant make my mind up on it.

Honesty please!

Ophelia is find but not so good if your surname is Balls

Lauriefairycake · 29/10/2007 15:15

LOL

lovecat · 29/10/2007 15:52

Cain?? How can anyone call their tiny, sweet, innocent little boy Cain? The first MURDERER!!!! You may as well call them Judas or Caligula....

(sorry to shout but my bf's younger sister called her little boy this and we were all horrified!)

Apologies, but I don't like any of them. Brand names and racing drivers...

nailpolish · 29/10/2007 15:54

just cos you are famous does that mean you own the name?
that pisses me off.
i had dd1 when the spice girls were high in th charts. eveyone at that time thought i had named dd after one of them! just cos she had the same name

tsk

brandnewpumpkin · 29/10/2007 16:09

Like Austin very much. Don't like any of the others. Know two Rowans (both girls, btw) - didn't like either of them.

harpsicorpsecarrier · 29/10/2007 16:12

none of them
sorry

skidaddle · 29/10/2007 16:15

please come and judge mine too here

Fraid I don't really like any of yours but Rohan/Rowan is my favourite

Mercy · 29/10/2007 16:18

I know a Rohan. I thought it was an Indian name.

Gingerbear · 29/10/2007 16:20

Autin - Backyardigans!
Rohan - ^like, but outdoor clothing connotations
Jansen/Jensen - not my cuppa
Lewin - I like

you said honesty!

riotgrrl · 29/10/2007 16:21

Yes, like Rohan Mistry? I've never heard of it being pronounced Rowan?

WalkingCorpseScum · 29/10/2007 16:22

Austin - I like it... used to watch Brass when I was a kid! Knew an Austin once who had a brother called Cain.

Rohan - LoTR geek! But that's not necessarily a bad thing... coming from someone that wants to call a hypothetical daughter Arwen (the husband is not in favour at all)

Jansen - meh.

Jenson - I think this is the nicest, but given the racing driver thing there's probably a lot of little Jensons out there now!

Lewin - I want to like it... it just seems a bit off.

How about Garion - it's an unusual name I like from my favourite fantasy fiction books as a child. The husband vetoed it though. DS does have an unusual name though. Not the most unusual in his class, that'd be Bowen, with the bow as in the bending in the middle as sign of respect pronunciation.

SoMuchToBats · 29/10/2007 16:24

I know a Rohin - he is Indian.

Btw I didn't say I liked Cain, or any of the other names I mentioned (I don't much, actually), they are just people I know of.

WalkingCorpseScum · 29/10/2007 16:25

Having an unusual name for your kid can be a bit tiring with all the discussion about it every time you meet someone new. If we have another boy he's going to be Sam(uel)... will be such a relief!

skidaddle · 29/10/2007 16:35

completely agree walking - my dd has an unusual name and I am SO SICK of spelling it, saying it again and then again, telling people where it comes from etc etc

Am also tempted to call this one something very usual to avoid all the questions all over again. But then again I like unusual names..

onebadmother · 29/10/2007 16:35

they ALL sound a bit ...Outward Bound?
Are you mountaineering types? if so, fine.
Gawain? Owain?

but secretly loving Mack.

Laurie!
Mharhi... Vari...
My Scottish colleague named Varrie suddenly makes a lot more sense...

PrincessAfterLife · 29/10/2007 17:30

How about Gelert? Combines welsh name with the outdoor clothing thing

My cousin is called Austin Martin [snigger]

Blandmum · 29/10/2007 17:32

nah, its that whole dead dog thing, too much of a downer for me

ChippyMinCEDtonGUE · 29/10/2007 17:33

Like Rowan, but spelt Roan

Like Lloyd too.
