Austin - I like but, you know, theres something there iyswim.

Rohan - dh and I keep saying it as Rowan but I prefer Rohan iyswim, so if we call him Rohan will we be thought of as numptys who have changed the spelling of name?

Jansen - but I would have to pronounce it Yansen or I'd feel daft, then I'd feel daft saying Yansen when we're clearly not sweedish/finnish.

Jenson - does it sound sad and does it make you think that we've just called him after a racing driver?

Lewin - Cant make my mind up on it.

Honesty please!

oh I don't know - makes me think brave valiant wolf-killer. Could be very manly.

flowerybeanbag · 29/10/2007 17:42

Chippy wouldn't Roan get pronounced to rhyme with moan?

ChippyMinCEDtonGUE · 29/10/2007 17:46

now i understand why DH named our DC!

Blandmum · 29/10/2007 17:51

In fact you could even call them Jogan with Josh as a middle name.

Next child could be Naan

belcantavinissima · 29/10/2007 17:52

i like austin the best but it does put me in mind of austin powers.

Ds2 has Rowan as a middle name, so it's my favourite from your list. Prefer it to Rohan as I think of clothing when I see it spelt that way.

Blandmum · 29/10/2007 17:56

Dhal would be a real babe, wouldn't she?

And Pakora would be a bit of a tinker!

Bhindi would be all calm and motherly and nurturing.......

God this is making my mouth water!

Sparkletastic · 29/10/2007 17:56

Another vote for Rowan not Rohan (due to vest / sad clothes associations)

'Bhaji! Put that down and come and sit nicely next to Keema'

PatsyCline · 29/10/2007 18:38

I am not keen on any of the original list. Sorry.

Here are the little boys that I know and love with cool names -

Angus - curly haired Mr Fabulouness
Alex - my DD2's seven-year-old fiance
Ted - fab nephew
Fraser - friend's cute toddler
Joseph - handsome tot - emigrated to Oz (sob)
Mikey - too cool for school
Seth - DD2's two-year-old fiance

Good luck with your quest for the ultimate name!

NBheebieGeebies · 29/10/2007 19:36

lol at some of these posts

Laurie, I picked Ophelia Rose when I was pg last year but it was a ds not a dd.
Gorgeous name, really pretty.

See some of them might be shop names but they are a shop name because the person who founded it was called it lol!

We've no welsh links so no real desire for a welsh name. Lewin was just one that cropped up on dhs list.

This thread has helped loads though.
I've decided I definately love Rohan/Rowan but its just how to bloody spell it.

I only like Rowan (and even then I'm not sure whether it suits a boy or girl best)

janeiteofthelivingdead · 29/10/2007 19:53

Yes I thought of "The riders of Rohan" too - but I love Rowan. DD2 would have been Rowan if she had been ds!

Jansen, Jenson and Austin - don't like at all sorry (especially Austin which I really, really don't like).

Lewin - no opinion at all on this - doesn't move me either way.

Yes I thought that too MMJ.

Forgot about a Rowan tree

Austin is the same as Augustine. Hence why 'Austin friars' is all over the City.

I love your other suggestions of Owen and Sebastian

onebatmother · 29/10/2007 22:57

Unexpectedly, really like Roan.
Headstrong, but earthy and likes women.

When I was choosing ds name, I decided that the best guide was whether I'd be automatically romantically interested on hearing his name, before I'd actually met him.

That sounds REALLY weird doesn't it.

I mean I wanted the name to sound romantic to his future lovely smart witty beeyootiful DP.

Hallowedam · 29/10/2007 23:03

Onebat, never mind smart, witty or beautiful, what you really want in a future DIL is deference! (To you, obv, not ds, that would be icky)

NB, if you are going to use Rowan - which I think is lovely - please do spell it Rowan. Any other variations just look made up, trying too hard or mis-spelt (I note there seems to be some book featuring Rohan but I suspect it's not widely known). Or that you take your inspiration from dodgy clothes. None of this is good!

onebatmother · 29/10/2007 23:08

I vote RON!!

From some crappy name website (are they mentalist?):

"The boy's name Roan \roan\ is a variant of Rowan.

The baby name Roan sounds like Ron, Royan, Roane, Ronn, Ryan and Rian. Other similar baby names are Doan, Roban, Rogan, Rohan, Roman and Ronan.

Roan is a very rare male first name and a very popular surname (source: 1990 U.S. Census)."

lol edam deference.
