Austin - I like but, you know, theres something there iyswim.

Rohan - dh and I keep saying it as Rowan but I prefer Rohan iyswim, so if we call him Rohan will we be thought of as numptys who have changed the spelling of name?

Jansen - but I would have to pronounce it Yansen or I'd feel daft, then I'd feel daft saying Yansen when we're clearly not sweedish/finnish.

Jenson - does it sound sad and does it make you think that we've just called him after a racing driver?

Lewin - Cant make my mind up on it.

Honesty please!

Austin makes me think of Texas makes me think of G Bush. What about Parker if want a surname-y kinda name? (or is it a girls surname-y name?)

Blandmum · 29/10/2007 14:09

Welsh names are beuatiful, but only if you say them right!

krabbiepatty · 29/10/2007 14:09

nailpolish · 29/10/2007 14:09

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 29/10/2007 14:10

Rohan.

It's gaelic/irish and also Sanskrit origin apparently, meaning Red.

NBheebieGeebies · 29/10/2007 14:10

You say that Le-well-in though dont you MB?

It was in a huge baby name book Lewin.

There are lots of other names I liked but dh didnt.

The other two which I've stuck on the back burner are Devon and Cole.

Parker too American, imo

NomDeBroomstick · 29/10/2007 14:11

Lou-ell-in

NomDeBroomstick · 29/10/2007 14:11

although there is the tricky LL bit at the fron that sounds like a cat spitting up a hairball

krabbiepatty · 29/10/2007 14:11

Cole is quite sweet, or Clement. Or Cassius. Or Otto. Or Otis...

NomDeBroomstick · 29/10/2007 14:11

Devon and Cole chavvy

Heated · 29/10/2007 14:12

You could be daring and outlandish and go for ....John!! Lead the backlash against 'different' names, as well as being him being the only one in the class

nailpolish · 29/10/2007 14:12

yes they are chavvy

MrsBadger · 29/10/2007 14:12

Ieuan?
Iestyn?

nailpolish · 29/10/2007 14:12

i secretly like Kevin

NBheebieGeebies · 29/10/2007 14:13

ahhhhh Ian Rankin

Parker was another choice of mine.

I also loved Mack, Sebastian, Seth (although increasingly popular), Sullivan, Woody

and yes, dh has made the point about the Disney theme.
(unbeknown to me at the time)

Is Cole chavvy - like Cole Porter? What about Porter?

NomDeBroomstick · 29/10/2007 14:13

People will think Cole as in footballer

krabbiepatty · 29/10/2007 14:14

Truman?

Blandmum · 29/10/2007 14:15

No, you dont not say Lew el lin

LL doesn't male the L sound in welsh at all, it is a very different sound.

'The ?aspirated L? is a phoneme exclusive to Welsh and in modern usage is written ?LL? as in ?Llewelyn?. '

To quote the internet. Please don't give your son a name you can't pronounce.

kittylouise · 29/10/2007 14:15

Agree with other posters that Devon and Cole are a bit chavtastic.

Also Devon = Ambrosia Custard to me.

nailpolish · 29/10/2007 14:15

there arent enough Williams these days as far as i am concerned

scorpio1 · 29/10/2007 14:16

William is a lovely name, we are going to have it for db3 middle name (if he is a boy)

NomDeBroomstick · 29/10/2007 14:16

I can pronounce it, I just can't write how I pronounce it

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/10/2007 14:17

See I thought Cole as in Porter, not as in footballer. Whilst I wouldn't choose Devon or Cole myself, I prefer both of them to your original list.
