According to their FAQ, when you play the game, advertisements appear on the bottom of your screen. The money generated by these advertisements is then used to buy rice. So by playing, you generate the money that pays for the rice which is distributed via the United Nations World Food Program to those in need.

A much better use of time than playing solitaire in the spare moments which exist between working, sleeping and mumsnetting!

Yes, it is just a drop in the ocean, but I guess many drops eventually make a reasonably substantial body of water, if not and ocean...

Couldn't quite get to 50 - I'm hovering around 48-49 with an occasional drop to 46.

Ah, I'm not so clever - my vocab level has been 45 at most, although I have managed to get 2600 grains of rice so far!

My 7 year old his having fun guessing the words too.

You have to get 3 right in a row to go up a level, but only one wrong to go down - I have to admit to a few lucky guesses, but the remnants of my Latin O level helped a lot, as did reading Brother Cadfael - there are quite a few mediaeval ones in there!
