Good evening, Clunkers!

Welcome to the Breakfast Club where the kettle is permanently on, the drinks flow and the snacks are both self-replenishing and calorie-free.

We start each day with a look at history and a tribute to a brave or inspiring woman. Mostly though, we just chat randomly about current affairs, recipes, life in lockdown, literature, music and anything else that comes into our heads.

Veteran Clunkers welcome. Anyone else who wants to join in the chat - sense of humour essential! - welcome.

Kettle's on ☕️☕️☕️

Good news that the tanker incident has been resolved without casualties.

Yes, good news about that. Will we be looking after the hijackers now for the rest of their natural?

StormzyinaTCup · 26/10/2020 17:42

Greenwine that all sounds very unnecessary and uncalled for, you must feel very disappointed. I wouldn’t fancy being in a book club where the criteria was set at ‘high brow’ I much prefer a good mix and more often than not want something that doesn’t require too much thought or effort. Dont let the blighters get you down, onwards and upwards😊

greenwine · 26/10/2020 17:45

Tracey No, I didn't suspect that they were Uppity. That's not a word I would use. I suspected that some of them were not as nice and friendly as they appeared to be, I suspected that the group would splinter quite quickly.
It's nice to be right sometimes.

TracysShoulder · 26/10/2020 17:45

Jezza will be rubbing his hands with glee at all this going on, in fact, wouldn't surprise me if he's advising.

You only have to listen to Drakeford for 5 minutes to see he's not up to making these major decisions. Why is Wales putting up with it?

TracysShoulder · 26/10/2020 17:47

Good that you were aware green.

Nelllyyy · 26/10/2020 17:49

Ok have tried and tested Milky Nelly Jelly, was 😍 I will definitely be making that again.

I haven’t tried the pineapple Jaffa Cakes yet, I might have a couple with a cup of tea later, will let you know how they taste. 😁

lifestooshort123 · 26/10/2020 17:51

@greenwine, well, you're well out of that breakaway group! Mean spirited by the sound of it. I admire you just for being in any book group as I would struggle to read anything that I wasn't enjoying and very much dislike bring told what to do (as Mr Tooshort learnt quite quickly). I can't get into sci-fi or fantasy at all so would have to be ill for those sessions and I struggle with anything that might be called romantic fiction/tosh. You see, LifesTooShort to waste time when there are so many books out there!

Gramgram · 26/10/2020 17:53

Milk jelly has intrigued me, can you make it with the sugar free jelly cubes?

Apart from milk jelly what are you having for dinner? We're having beef stew, new pot and left over cauliflower and broccoli.

Gramgram · 26/10/2020 17:55

New pots not new pot. Don't fancy eating ceramic.

Nelllyyy · 26/10/2020 17:55

Oh and I forgot this, daughter phoned earlier to tell me the story of the ribbons, my two grandsons have been wrapping the ribbons around Action mans legs/leg and then tying the other end around the horse, dragging the action men behind the horse, she now thinks that they will become bad boys as they get older, I laughed, but she wasn’t impressed. 😁🐎🤼🎀

Gramgram · 26/10/2020 17:56

Still can't type potatoes.

SulisMinerva · 26/10/2020 17:58

Can’t believe what happened with your book club, Green! That is awful behaviour and no doubt you are better off out of it.

We used to have a book club in a previous job I had. One of the things I loved was reading books I wouldn’t usually have chosen myself.

Been reading about the madness in Wales - unbelievable really!

Nelllyyy · 26/10/2020 17:59

I made mine with the sugar free granules, came out wobbly just like jelly, I used semi skimmed milk. 👍🏻

We had sausage and onions, mash, carrots and sliced green beans, followed by Milky Nelly Jelly. 👍🏻

The fox had yesterdays left over hotpot. 🦊

Where we stay in Wales, the owner of the barn never had a good word about him, the air was rather blue, can’t say I blame him though.
Gramgram · 26/10/2020 18:08

Nelllyyy, I'll give it a try. Do you think I can still put strawberries in it?

Your story about your grandchildren amused me. I remember watching DD in horror as she washed her dolly in the bath. She scrubbed the dolly's hair with soap and then holding the dolly by the ankles dunked the dolly's head in the water. She hasn't gone on to wash her DD like that.

greenwine · 26/10/2020 18:09

Thanks Stormzy, yes I like a good mixture of different books too. I think a mixture can provide an interesting discussion.

MissSarahThane · 26/10/2020 18:10

I haven't decided what to have yet. Sausage and onions sounds nice, but I haven't got any onions and the sausages are in the freezer! Must get some onions, it's something to have with new potatoes and gravy on a chilly evening.

Might have a bit of fish, I've got some salmon portions in the freezer and I can cook one from frozen.

DistantShores1 · 26/10/2020 18:10

I am back. Interesting reading up on all the happenings today.

Dinner tonight was an oven chip butty with fish fingers. They don't call me the culinary goddess for nuthin' you know Grin

Sorry to hear about your book club Greenwine. It sounds like you're better off without them. I'm sure there are plenty of other book clubs you'd be made welcome in.

Oh Tracy you are spoiling us with all these evening spreads.

DistantShores1 · 26/10/2020 18:13

Be careful and check before using the strawberries Gramgram. I made jelly and put kiwi fruit in it and it didn't set.

SulisMinerva · 26/10/2020 18:14

I’m a fan of ‘chuck everything in a pot’ dishes at this time of year. There something very soothing about it - comfort dishes.

Gramgram · 26/10/2020 18:15

Thank you Distant Shores1, I'll have them separately.

MoreHippoThanPenguin · 26/10/2020 18:16

Tracy, I am so sorry. I saw the butlers with that amazing spread and I am afraid I got so excited that they all hurried over to give me a large helping before I started to wave with both arms Blush.

But I missed the bubbly, don’t mind if I do Smile.

Lifestooshort, I have to confess to a strange love of Science Fiction. I remember reading Asimov as a teen and Philip K Dick. Philip wrote the story they based the Truman show on, and Minority Report I think, and Blade Runner. I love the imagination....

Teflon, it is so sad to see the decline of traditional, long standing businesses. How will we ever recover from it?

Greenwine that is appalling. Didn't you suspect that they were uppity? I can safely say you are far better off without them. Read whatever you want to read, always.

MrN is dangerous. 12 Crispy Cremes the other day and now boxes of jaffa cakes? I'm piling weight on here in the BC with you Grin

Crankley, it beggars belief that those 2 are the best the US has to offer. I'm not following it closely, but I have a feeling that the same will happen there as did here in December: silent majority.

Department stores are fast disappearing aren't they Sarah? It's very sad.

😂😂 hence Tracy my walking 5 miles a day, MrN is certainly a feeder.😁

I sent him to Tesco when we were away to get 2 rib eye steaks and 1 pack of button mushrooms, he came back with 4 steaks and 2 packs of the large mushrooms because what I wanted didn’t look enough for 2 people. 🤷🏼‍♀️😁

The Krispy Kremes, only 4 were eaten and again Mr Fox got the rest of them. 😁🦊

I have warned MrN no more, only get what I ask for and not what I might want. 😁

LilyLangtrey · 26/10/2020 18:22

Asimov! That brings back memories!

Cocktails all round, and to cheer up greenwine, some bar snacks.

Well, the sun is over the yardarm after all. Cheers 🥂

Children are funny. 😁❤️

I should think it would be ok adding strawberries, as the milk is cold so they wouldn’t get “cooked” and not go soggy, I will do this next time I make milky jelly. ❤️🍓
