Keep your filthy disgusting cats at home!

My 3yo son just ran across my front lawn and jumped in the car. On the way, he's trodden in cat poo ( there's a regular offender, and no, it's not fox ). There's now cat poo all across the back seat of my car. I'm first trimester, and horrified at the prospect of toxoplasma, even though I know the risk is low.

This is on the background of my aracuana chicks being stolen by cats from my own back yard. I don't care how lazy you think your cat is - research has shown that even the most placid cat will kill 2-3 animals per night if allowed to roam.

Keep them locked up ffs! If you can't keep them inside, make a run. If you can't do that, keep rabbits instead.

What a ridiculous thread. Legally cats have a right to roam. I can appreciate it might be annoying to find cat shit on your lawn but realistically what do you expect owners to do? Do you really believe there is no other wildlife entering your garden and defecating there?

Bloomburger · 12/10/2020 07:35

Cats are very clean 😂😂😂😂

This is probably written by someone who lets the 'clean' animals sleep on their pillow, walk on their countertops and shit in a box in their house trying to assure people that their house doesn't stink of shit and piss.

I'm always stunned how society accepts cats shitting everywhere yet gets all het up about dog shit????

Letsleepingdogslie8 · 12/10/2020 07:38

100% with you OP. We had a massive problem with cats. Spent a fortune on devices to stop them but nothing worked. Had I known who the owner was, each and every stinky turd would have been placed back on their doorstep. I once found one on my DC’s slide. Thank goodness I found it before they used it.

We’ve got a big dog now so the shitting cats have gone elsewhere thankfully.

Wherehavetheteletubbiesgone · 12/10/2020 07:40

Cats should not be allowed to roam free if I put my rottweiler into the kids next doors garden then there would be outrage but cats get free movement. Really considering getting a pet that hunts cats, coyote or realistically for the UK red tailed hawk. Or even better bring back the reintroduction of European wolves.

Full respect to those who keep their cat indoors, therefore avoiding crapping in my garden or killing the birds or interbreeding with the Scottish wildcats.

rookiemere · 12/10/2020 07:42

Ah the old other animal defence. My friend used this one on me - thankfully it wasn't her cats as she lives a few miles away. So if it was other animals, explain to me why we used to see cats in the garden all the time and when we got a bouncy enthusiastic dog, the non dog poo stopped.

OP I bought a sort of squishy gel stuff from a hardware shop, and put that on every week for a couple of months and that seemed to do the trick. Needs to be done if they start coming back, but generally once they are in the habit of avoiding your garden, it would be a new cat only that comes in. Really annoyed me having to pay my own money to stop other people's pets shitting in my garden.

Jessicarabbit33 · 12/10/2020 07:43

@Bloomburger it's actually really simple. Cats are allowed to roam and dogs aren't. Therefore a dog should always be under supervision but the same can't be said for a cat. How is an owner meant to know when a cat has shit somewhere to go remove it?

Even the most urban areas are teaming with wildlife all of which are merrily shitting all over the place. Are you going to call for a ban on foxes and hedgehogs too? And don't forget the birds who crap on your windows....inconsiderate bastards!

Op you really ought to have secured your chicks better. All the vitriol aimed at cats who are just animals with no conscious awareness of wrongdoing is quite unpleasant to see. There are plenty of natural and harmless repellents you can use to discourage cats from entering your property.

IceniWarrior · 12/10/2020 07:43

The dog probably ate it.

Scaraffito · 12/10/2020 07:44

There is a flip side to cats can roam and dogs can't, unfortunately, so I wouldn't be pushing for dogs to have a right to.

Bloomburger · 12/10/2020 07:45

@Jessicarabbit33 Doh!! 🙄

IceniWarrior · 12/10/2020 07:47

I never fully understood all this cat shit people and their kids are standing in. We see cats come into our garden at night. We are surrounded by cats and never have I or the kids been covered in poo constantly.

Have however stood in dog poo!

ohnotubby · 12/10/2020 07:49

My next door neighbour has 17 cats. You can imagine our struggle.

SelkieQualia · 12/10/2020 07:52

@WomenAndVulvas

I really don't get why this is a problem. All sorts of animals poo in gardens. I live in a country with a big pine marten population, they even live in densely populated suburbs. They poo everywhere. If you can't deal with animal poo, then go and live in a built up city centre. Problem solved. And if your chickens were killed, they weren't kept in a safe pen. Cats can't open locks or tear down fences.
Cats can't tear down fences, but they will certainly pick an opportunity.

And I grew up on a farm. I'm fine with poo. I will happily pick up dry herbivore poo with my bare hands. I will clean flying fox poo off my car, and god knows that stuff sets like concrete . However, cat poo has a foetid awfulness that's unparalleled even by dog poo.

It’s about compromise isn’t it. Really not keen on cats myself but know a number of owners. A small number - two with 3 cats between them won’t have litter trays in their house. It’s unhygienic apparently.

It’s the smell of cat wee that really gets me. Front garden next door reeks of it....

PivotPivotPivottt · 12/10/2020 07:54

I have 2 cats that roam, they use their litter trays but I admit I do worry if they poo in other people's gardens. I don't blame you for being angry about having to clean cat shit off your car seats that is disgusting and I would be mortified if this happened to one of my neighbours (if it was one of mine that had done it 💩).

My cats don't smell and they always look clean. I've recently adopted a dog and she is disgusting. She stinks, my house stinks, my carpet stinks, my couch stinks, she eats shit, digs in the garden then runs in the house getting muddy paw prints everywhere. Oh and before I got her I worried about the house smelling of cat so always asked my mum or ex partner if the house smells of cat whenever they came round and was always told no. Now I ask them if it smells of dog and they tell me yes Smile.

I love my cats and my dog but the dog is definitely the most disgustingGrin

Now the weather is getting colder my cats are choosing to stay in more often and I much prefer this. I would love to keep them as indoor cats and did try to begin with but they just jumped out of open windows or ran out as soon as the door opened.

Itchybush · 12/10/2020 07:57

The neighbours cats have destroyed my flower beds and I can't open the living room window because they've made a toilet under it Sad

However, a bit of cat shit is a drop in the ocean compared to what humans do. I'm regularly picking up litter, broken glass, chewing gum and all sorts from my front lawn. Then you've got the people using weed killer on their lawn, bleach down the drains, endless bits of plastic in the rubbish. I don't think us humans have a right to moan about other species inconveniencing us.

Pollynextdoor · 12/10/2020 07:58

Are you sure it’s cat poo in the middle of the garden? Usually cats pop in flower beds and pots. Sounds like fox pop to me. We have fox pop all over our garden, but not cat poo.

altforvarmt · 12/10/2020 07:59

Your rage is misdirected. It's your responsibility to keep your chicks safe, and you know it. Would you shake your fist at a sparrow hawk if it took a chick, or vow to improve security.

And I don't understand why a chicken owner would rant about cat poo. Chickens poo every hour, anywhere and everywhere. And their caecal poos smell far worse than any cat poo could.

Cactuslockdown · 12/10/2020 07:59

This thread isn’t really about dogs vs cats though is it... the OP is saying it’s gross that someone’s cat has pooed in her garden and her child has stood in it. That is horrible, cat owners won’t have it though OP

Iheardarumour · 12/10/2020 07:59

I have a house cat and even she is offended by OPs comments.

DuaneBenziesvoice · 12/10/2020 08:00

I agree OP. Loads of our neighbours have cats and they always shit right in the centre of our front lawn. And it's not foxes because I've watched cats do it.

If I see cats in the back garden, I just let the dog out. They soon get the fuck out of my garden.
Cats are awful things.

For the gazillionth time - so this makes it ok for my dog to come onto your property, and kill your cats, because you haven't secured them properly?

Love cats, you are all soulless and I feel sorry for you all..Sad

lagerandblack · 12/10/2020 08:03

Its Monday morning and you are obviously in a shit mood (no pun intended) so go and have a coffee and calm down. Its cruel to keep cats indoors, they need to roam free.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 12/10/2020 08:03

Oh yes, the myth of the clean cat.

I makes me wonder what standards for cleanliness people who believe that actually have.

TessTackle · 12/10/2020 08:04

@Rae34

Cats are very clean. Maybe you should keep your 3 year old locked up.
