Keep your filthy disgusting cats at home!

My 3yo son just ran across my front lawn and jumped in the car. On the way, he's trodden in cat poo ( there's a regular offender, and no, it's not fox ). There's now cat poo all across the back seat of my car. I'm first trimester, and horrified at the prospect of toxoplasma, even though I know the risk is low.

This is on the background of my aracuana chicks being stolen by cats from my own back yard. I don't care how lazy you think your cat is - research has shown that even the most placid cat will kill 2-3 animals per night if allowed to roam.

Keep them locked up ffs! If you can't keep them inside, make a run. If you can't do that, keep rabbits instead.

I like cats but there are a lot of irresponsible owners who just shrug their shoulders. My DM's new neighbour bought some of those anti-cat things when she saw my mum picking up cat poo. And gave them to my DM.

My NDN doesn't have cats but feeds about 5 feral ones so there is always cat poo in our garden and one must be male cos its pee stinks!

When our garden is finished I will be getting some of the anti-cat machines myself

userxx · 12/10/2020 08:05

That's cats for you, shit where they please 🤷‍♂️

Jessicarabbit33 · 12/10/2020 08:08

@SelkieQualia come on op, that's not really comparable is it? The dogs vs cats debate doesn't work here because there are different rules for both. You can't have dogs roaming freely, there'd be chaos.

As others have said, it could just have easily been a fox or hawk that got your chicks. As an adult human take responsibility rather than directing your rage about your failings onto a dumb animal who is just acting on instinct and have no concept of doing any wrong.

Have you actually tried any of the harmless deterrents (there are plenty) or are you just wanting a rant?

shesgonebatshitagain · 12/10/2020 08:11

@Bloomburger

Cats are very clean 😂😂😂😂

This is probably written by someone who lets the 'clean' animals sleep on their pillow, walk on their countertops and shit in a box in their house trying to assure people that their house doesn't stink of shit and piss.

I'm always stunned how society accepts cats shitting everywhere yet gets all het up about dog shit????

I was one of the posters who wrote this.

Cats are fastidiously clean animals in that they spend hours every day cleaning themselves. Their tongues are like little combs. Of course that doesn’t mean they don’t defecate etc but I have three cats and none of them have been bathed. Their eyes,,ears, coats etc are clear and clean. Their coats are gleaming.
I have their litter trays ( one each ) in the garage which they get to via cat flaps in that and the utility door from the kitchen. There are anti tracking mats in front of their trays. The trays and the cat flaps are treated with cat safe disinfectant every day.
Cats have to have clean litter trays that are emptied throughout the day or they won’t use them.
My cats are indoors and very much loved but they don’t come upstairs. They do t jump into work surfaces and if they ever did they’d be removed.

You can keep animals and not be the sort of person you’ve gleefully described here

SweetAlmondOil · 12/10/2020 08:12

What about children who play loudly in gardens? Should they be locked up too?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 12/10/2020 08:14

What about children who play loudly in gardens? Should they be locked up too?

Why?

Do they kill birds and shit in other people's gardens? Because if they did, then yes please, lock them up.

Baaaahhhhh · 12/10/2020 08:20

Get a cat OP. It will keep other cats away.

Also RSPB confirms no evidence to suggest cats decimate bird populations. In our garden it's the Covids that do the most damage.

Scaraffito · 12/10/2020 08:22

What about children who play loudly in gardens? Should they be locked up too?

If they start playing in gardens other than their own then you probably would contact someone. If it's in their own garden, then not sure of the comparison with cats- in their own garden I'm sure most other people don't care where they shit.

Alabamawhirly1 · 12/10/2020 08:22

Unfortunately if you don't have a dog or cat, your garden will become the local toilet. A cat was using my front garden flower beds as a toilets which was rather unpleasant when I came to weed.

I let the dog have a pee there a few times and that warded the little bugger off.

Maybe get your own cat op. Then the others won't use your garden as the toilet. Cats are actually much nicer when they're your own.

Cats are and should be allowed to roam. But, owners should litter box train and then keep a box inside or in their own garden for the cat to use, to at least minimise using neighbours gardens.

@BillywilliamV

Love cats, you are all soulless and I feel sorry for you all..Sad
Cats are lovely - when safely contained at home.

Oh it's one of these posts... where the OP argues incessantly with anyone who dares to disagree.

FRO. You are being entirely unreasonable. While I get your irritation. I'd put your energy into teaching your child to keep to paths and look out for animal faeces. Useful skill for life in parks etc.

By the time the second kid is born the first will probably be juggling cat poo! 😁

UsernameNotValid · 12/10/2020 08:42

@shesgonebatshitagain I've discussed it with my adjoining neighbours and thankfully they are fully on board. Of the 3, I'm the humane one so they don't care at all.

I wouldn't/couldn't hurt an animal but thankfully the cat owner who doesn't give a shit (no pun intended) is separated by a pathway so has no say in the matter.

Just like the OP has been told, if her pet gets injured - which isn't my intention - the owner should've been more responsible with her pet 😊

bigarsebelinda · 12/10/2020 08:42

@SelkieQualia

Op. Please reference the research you've mentioned.

"I don't care how lazy you think your cat is - research has shown that even the most placid cat will kill 2-3 animals per night if allowed to roam."

mathanxiety · 12/10/2020 08:50

I'm always stunned how society accepts cats shitting everywhere yet gets all het up about dog shit????

It's quite simple really.

It's because dogs are supposed to be in the control of their owners, who are obliged under numerous municipal and other by-laws to pick up after them. A good deal of the anger is not actually about dogs per se, but about their feckless owners.

Cats are held to be roaming animals, not expected to be under the control of their owners. They are allowed to poop outdoors just as rabbits and squirrels are.

Aridane · 12/10/2020 08:53

I really don't get why this is a problem. All sorts of animals poo in gardens. I live in a country with a big pine marten population, they even live in densely populated suburbs. They poo everywhere.
If you can't deal with animal poo, then go and live in a built up city centre. Problem solved

I live in a built up city and the cats Still liberally Distribute their shit. Urban living doesn’t confer immunity from cat shit

Sunshinegirl82 · 12/10/2020 08:54

You can be as hacked off as you like OP, will make the square root of fuck all difference to anything!

There are lots of things you can do to deter cats, if you are bothered about it, do some of them. Write you your MP regarding a change to the law. Otherwise live with it.

People do all sorts of things in life that annoy me and I consider to be unfair but I don't get to have everything exactly as I want it because that's life. The things that matter enough to me I campaign about or actively seek to change. The things that don't I learn to live with.

Aridane · 12/10/2020 08:54

Dogs destroy an enormous amount of wildlife and shit everywhere. They are hideously ‘unclean’ eat other animals poo and their own and then lick your faces. They bark, consistently and havee propensity to be extremely aggressive. They have killed and maimed children. They routinely attack grouse/pheasants/sheep/chickens, you name it. In other countries, such as Australia they have caused damage to koala populations etc. They jump your leg and they stink. What’s your point?

OP’s point in part is that there are controls on dogs but not on cats!

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 12/10/2020 08:55

Not sure why my post got deleted. For talking about anxiety and OCD? Confused

Feefifo9 · 12/10/2020 08:57

Lol. Cats far cleaner than the mice and rats probably living within 100metres of your house. You can’t disinfect the world Biscuit

mathanxiety · 12/10/2020 08:57

For the gazillionth time - so this makes it ok for my dog to come onto your property, and kill your cats, because you haven't secured them properly?

For at least the fifteenth time on this thread, dogs must be kept under control of their owners but cats are allowed to roam freely. Therefore, you are held responsible for any damage your dog does to other people or to their animals, and cats are not.

Of course it's often the dog who pays the ultimate price for the owner's failure to properly control it.

Aridane · 12/10/2020 08:57

Cats are very clean. Maybe you should keep your 3 year old locked up.

Well, unless OP’s 3 year old wanders into others’ gardens, kills their pets and shit foul smelling and dirty shit, the comparison doesn’t really work

Badgerbadger88 · 12/10/2020 08:58

This thread is so funny!!

I don’t own a cat. But maybe your child should have walked on a path? Or maybe teach your child to look where he’s walking / running?

Grin
UsernameNotValid · 12/10/2020 08:59

@BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze you weren't just talking about anxiety and OCD.

You basically said that the OP should seek medical help because these worries must mean she has mental health issues.

You are not a doctor, telling people that their legitimate concerns are unfounded is a shitty thing to do.

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 12/10/2020 09:01

Cats are lovely - when safely contained at home.

But they don’t have to be contained at home. 🤷🏻‍♀️
And I’ve had a few cats over the years, all went outside and all but one lived long lives. My eldest was 19 when he died.
I also have dogs.

ShirleyPhallus · 12/10/2020 09:03

@BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze

I assume it was because you suggested OP had mental health issues for not enjoying stepping in cat shit, esp when pregnant
