Keep your filthy disgusting cats at home!

My 3yo son just ran across my front lawn and jumped in the car. On the way, he's trodden in cat poo ( there's a regular offender, and no, it's not fox ). There's now cat poo all across the back seat of my car. I'm first trimester, and horrified at the prospect of toxoplasma, even though I know the risk is low.

This is on the background of my aracuana chicks being stolen by cats from my own back yard. I don't care how lazy you think your cat is - research has shown that even the most placid cat will kill 2-3 animals per night if allowed to roam.

Keep them locked up ffs! If you can't keep them inside, make a run. If you can't do that, keep rabbits instead.

I can count on one hand the amount of times I stepped in cat poo, unfortunately not so about dog poo. It’s bloody everywhere and my son routinely walks in it on the way to school. Wish people would keep their dogs locked up. Would also stop them attacking and killing sheep.

SelkieQualia · 12/10/2020 00:29

They aren't clean. They lick their bottoms first, pick up germs, and then lick them all over their coats.

Nope.

I’d rather they were shitting in your garden than mine.

HTH 😘

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 12/10/2020 00:30

Theres plenty of things that deter cats from your garden. The fact you haven't tried and think a ranty post on MN will achieve your dream of cats all being locked up speaks volumes.

Try helping yourself, which you should have done after the first problem you had.

UsernameNotValid · 12/10/2020 00:30

Responsible owners should pick up after their dogs, the difference is that my garden is my private ground.

I don't have an animal so don't expect to pick up after other people's domesticated pets in my land.

Tadpolesandfroglets · 12/10/2020 00:33

I’ve had dogs come into my garden, randomly. Chase my chickens. Piss and shit. Can’t really see the difference.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 12/10/2020 00:36

I have four cats. Only two of them go outside, and both of them will come in from the garden to use the litter box.

UsernameNotValid · 12/10/2020 00:36

The difference is the dog owner can (and should) be reported for allowing their dog to do that and most people would have the decency to be mortified/disgusted by that happening.

I don't understand why it's just accepted that that is what cats do - it's not acceptable for any domestic pet to do.

Tadpolesandfroglets · 12/10/2020 00:38

It still happens though, so I’m just pointing out if you are mortified about cats doing it why aren’t you mortified about dogs doing it and the numerous other disgusting things they do. Just get over it.

SelkieQualia · 12/10/2020 00:40

I own a dog. It's very clearly my responsibility to make sure that I pick up her poo, and that she does not roam or bother other people. Why the double standard?

elmouno · 12/10/2020 00:40

That used to happen in our garden everyday until we got these. They are like little scarecrows for cats lol. The marbles make them seem real from a distance.

SelkieQualia · 12/10/2020 00:41

And yes, my dog can be gross. I don't inflict that on my neighbours.

SkiingIsHeaven · 12/10/2020 00:45

Dog owners pick up their dog shit. Ironically cat owners don't give a shit.

Same rules and fines should apply.

lakesidewinter · 12/10/2020 00:46

Actually I agree with you OP.
My dc is 16 and has always been an indoor cat or outside on a lead.
Roaming cats are terrible for garden birds.

UsernameNotValid · 12/10/2020 00:47

@Tadpolesandfroglets that's not an everyday occurrence, here atleast, and i'd be livid if someone was letting their dog do that on my property because their owner should be responsible for keeping watch and picking up after them.

I feel the exact same way about cats, the difference is there is nothing to say that their owners are accountable and it's socially acceptable for them to be out unsupervised.

Dissimilitude · 12/10/2020 00:50

Had the same issue with cats in our street. And heard all the same denials from the cat owners. “My cat wouldn’t do that”, “cats bury it”, “it’s a fox” etc.

Bought a wildlife camera and captured about 5 separate videos of a couple of the cats from the street taking many a dump in our raised beds.

Sent them round the street WhatsApp group. I can’t stop your cats shitting in my garden, you can’t stop me filming it and telling everyone about your shitty cat.

valtandsinegar · 12/10/2020 00:50

It sounds like you need to take better care of your chickens. If any predator can get to them then your pen is not secure enough.

If you live near people then you run the risk of there being cats. People can't control where their cats go. Don't like it? Buy a big plot of land and live there with no neighbours.

elmouno · 12/10/2020 00:52

I do wonder why dogs are treated so poorly. I really don't care about occasional barking but cats intruding and pooing shouldn't be acceptable. I think the same sort of fines that exist for noise should also be for poo on private property. I dont know how that would work though.

SoulofanAggron · 12/10/2020 00:52

@SelkieQualia Most people would keep them in something so animals can't get at them.

llamalana · 12/10/2020 00:54

You have my sympathy. Local cats crap in my youngest's sand pit. And yes I know we should cover it every single night but we don't always get around to it. They also crap in the vege garden. And then just to make it even more delightful, the dog thinks they are the world's best treat and scoffs them as soon as it finds them...comes and tries to lick you etc. Seriously vom inducing. At least she hasn't thought to roll in them.

UsernameNotValid · 12/10/2020 00:54

Thus is what I don't understand - why can't people control where there PET cat goes whilst dog owners need to be on guard all the time?

If you choose to take an animal into your home then you are responsible for it and it's actions.

TibetanTerrier · 12/10/2020 00:56

@IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls

Totally agree .

I just cannot stand cats ... or their owners who let them shit all over my garden.

I love cats. I also love dogs. It's humans I can't stand.
EmeraldShamrock · 12/10/2020 00:57

It isn't nice I agree with you it stinks I'd throw the shoe out. Your title is very offensive to cat owners so I hope you have your hard hat on. I've my back garden cat proofed the neighbour has 3 cats 1 of them still gets in she is a nice lady it doesn't shit anymore so I don't complain if he starts shitting again I'll complain.
