Do you tell your friends about Mumsnet?

I have just told my friend about Mumsnet, welcome by the way if you are new to Mumsnet! I now am thinking that I will change my name, because some stuff is really personal and because she may feel that she wants annonimity on her problems. Does anyone think this is being a chicken or would you do it? By the way, if I do go I'll be back, with a new name. Thanks Mnr's.

I don't tell anyone, infact i go out of my way to avoid mentioning it sometimes.
A friend of mine has just got a computer and i'm dreading her asking me for the name of the site.

jollymum · 14/10/2004 18:10

I do feel very protective of my site, but that's silly 'cos Mumsnet is for evryone, but imagine doing a thread like, say, THE RABBIT and having to face a friend the next day!

I nearly told my friend today whose wife is very very pregnant (due in 3 days) she's really worried about giving birth and I seriously contemplated telling them - but didn't. I have told one friend who is a brill friend and I know far more about her than she could ever know about me

hatter · 14/10/2004 18:18

no no no. have never told anyone I know about it. It's horrendously selfish but loosing my anonymity would be awful. DH comes and glances over my shoulder and I even feel self-conscious then. Not because of anything I would want to hide, more coz I kind of assume he doesn't understand why mners can generate 100-odd posts about washing towels

Angeliz · 14/10/2004 18:29

No, (i feel a little selfish for it but it just wouldn't be the same for me!!)

JoolsToo · 14/10/2004 18:30

no - if they joined my names a bit obvious!

lou33 · 14/10/2004 18:32

I do, I don't care if they know who I am

kalex · 14/10/2004 18:33

I have told my best friend, but actually I think she thinks that I am a bit weird. When I told her I was travelling to the Isle of Muck to meet a friend of the internet, I swear she looked at me funny

But I tell her everything so it doesn't matter.

I think that the funniest post was from either Misdee or Mieow posting and saying "Don't tell mum" (they are sisters for those thinking "What")

Davros · 14/10/2004 18:34

No, don't tell anyone but have found out through CATs etc that I know some people are anyway and they know me, but only as internet buddies (through SN connection), def NO RL friends (as far as I know)

WigWamBam · 14/10/2004 18:36

I haven't been here long but think it would be nice to share something so good with a friend of mine with a SN daughter, she will get more out of it than I will lose, not sure I'd want any of my other friends to read some of the stuff I've written today and know it was me!

Marina · 14/10/2004 18:38

I'm with Lou33 on this one. Must because we are looking for more Ruthless Moderation fodder
Can see a different view on this though, it's a tricky one. And my chat name is not at all obvious which helps.

Marina · 14/10/2004 18:39

I say WigWamBam your would not be related to stuff found under your mother's bed perchance

blueteddy · 14/10/2004 18:40

My friend Tessiebear introduced me 2 mumsnet & we know each others nicknames!
We often chat on Mums net & tbh, there is not a lot that I would ever post about that I would not tell her in RL!
We have known each other since we were toddlers though!

snmum · 14/10/2004 18:42

Look marina, if some of us were mods we would be telling people to "F" off ALL the time, i know I would, i would abuse my power and be the biggest arsehole mumsnet mods ever had....

marina, you and lou do it sooo well >>creep creep

WigWamBam · 14/10/2004 18:42

Marina - um, er, ah, well, yeeeeees
And something my daughter said about my hsband's willy

Marina · 14/10/2004 18:45

OMG, WigWamBam, I now see what you mean!
Snmum you say the sweetest things how kind

pixiefish · 14/10/2004 18:49

I'm not bothered if my friends know. A friend is going through a divorce at the moment and i told her about here- told her how good it is etc.
Another friend I know comes on here but I don't know her nickname or if she just lurks.
Told the hv at my breastfeeding group as well- incase she wants to pass it on to any new mums as the advice is excellent.

turquoise · 14/10/2004 18:52

Only my two closest friends and they think I'm wierd anyway. But it does seem that the stuff I tell about myself on MN would make anyone who didn't know my normal side think i'm a freak

lydialemon · 14/10/2004 18:57

I've told people, but no one really gets it! I don't post anything I would be bothered about RL friends reading - I'm pretty open anyway. One poster was introduced by someone I tried to introduce IYSWIM. We know each other in RL and on MN and are both comfortable with it!

snmum · 14/10/2004 18:57

look turquoise if you do eventually move by me, I will not think you are a freak (its fio btw) because i am one too

turquoise · 14/10/2004 19:00

Looking forward to that snmum. We freaks should stick together

blueteddy · 14/10/2004 19:33

Me too!
My Mum asked only the other day, what my Mumsnet name was & I told her that I don't have 1!

Amfs · 14/10/2004 19:35

DON'T

DON'T DO IT

blueteddy · 14/10/2004 19:37

Don't worry, I'm not going 2!
I know 4 a fact that my Mum used 2 read my diaries when I was at home, so I don't trust her!
