Dixie thought I'd start this since the other thread is so long it's taking ages to post a message. I can talk here or if you'd rather talk on the phone email me at [email protected] and I'll email you my number/will call you if you like. You don't have to explain, I remember the background. Must be hard, I'm separated too but it's amicable. Ds and dp are out so I've got time to talk if you want to.

Hi I'm still up too!

leander · 21/03/2003 23:53

Hi I'm here too, just got in from work so I'll be up for a while yet trying to wind down.

bossykate · 21/03/2003 23:54

hello ghosty

how are you? i know exactly what you mean about getting into "fights" with people on threads. i am actually quite a confrontational person and do not fight shy of saying what i think, but bizarrely i find this easier in real life than on mumsnet, where i am always walking on eggshells not to offend... not that i always achieve this goal, i'm sure...

now i try to avoid getting into it, but in the past have been quite upset by posts on controversial subjects...

now that i've been here a while, it's getting to me less and less!

btw, i've always wanted to visit nz...

bossykate · 21/03/2003 23:56

excellent! hello angie, susan, leander! anything you want to chat about?

susan - hope you are ok (don't follow the pnd threads), but have noted recent postings from you there.

susanmt · 21/03/2003 23:57

In real life I am fairly confrontational too, but do do my best to keep myself back in the majority of confrontational threads!

susanmt · 21/03/2003 23:58

I've been a bit down, but I am improving again. Thanks for asking.

Oooh well ... we started with a wall hanging from South Africa which I bought when I was pg with DS. We had it up in his room in England when he was a baby but this time we wanted a room that he could be happy with at least until he is 9 or 10.
The wall hanging is really bright. Triangles and diamonds in bright blues, greens, reds, yellows, oranges and purples!
So ... we have painted the walls exactly the same shade of green (a grass green) and the skirting boards the same shade of blue. One wall is white and we have put up a painting that has all those colours on it too. Then we bought a chest of drawers made of MDF. I painted the main body of the chest blue and each drawer a different colour from the wall hanging but in rainbow order ... so red at the top and purple at the bottom. Our biggest expense was a roman blind (black out) that we had made ... again the blue colour ...
It looks FANTASTIC .. I love it and feel so proud of DH as he had to put up new plaster board, replace the coving AND the skirting as well as put up lining paper and paint!!!
DS loves it and now all of his toys are in there so we now have a toy free living room in the evening - Hurrah
In fact he loves it so much that this morning he woke up at 7am as opposed to the 5.30am start that we have been having of late!!!

judetheobscure · 22/03/2003 00:02

Me too - and bossykate - I just started reading "the Blind Assassin" a couple of hours ago, as dh was hogging the PC, but I fell asleep after reading only 8 pages I'm sure I'll get into it soon ?! Dh is in the bath now so I get my turn. I'm often up until 1ish reading the boards, checking e-mails etc. No problems falling asleep then!

Ghosty - I think I must be thick-skinned because I don't care too much about being controversial - I do try to be polite about it though. So - not a big fan of magnolia - I like terracotta, burgundy, mustard, flamenco etc. But guess what colour I'm thinking of doing our bedroom (the walls anyway)? Magnolia. (Duvet etc, will be burgundy and gold - hopefully dh will agree)

leander · 22/03/2003 00:06

Sounds lovely Ghosty,I might even decorate Ds bedroom if it means he'll sleep later!!

bossykate · 22/03/2003 00:08

congratulations, ghosty! we are in the middle of doing up our (very, very ordinary) house and i can relate to your feelings when you have "brought off" a design idea. it sounds very bold and you are right to be proud you have pulled it off!

dh and i have agreed for our next house we're going to get something the other mugs have done up!

susan, i'm sorry to hear you have been rather down. hope things improve for you soon.

Angiel · 22/03/2003 00:09

We have been decorating our hall for what seems like forever! Dh is supposed to be starting work on a conservatory next month as well. Can't see it happening though, he's too busy at work. Trouble is, we have already got the loan and it is dwindling in our bank account. Eeekkk!!

I'm off to bed in a minute. Got to get 3 of them ready in the morning to go to a party at 10.30 am. Who has a party at 10.30 in the morning?

jude, if it is any consolation, i started The Blind Assassin about a year before i carried on with reading it! BUT it was well worth it when i finally got back to it.

leander - hmm yes when you've got an early waker and there doesn't seem to be any remedy... i agree even decorating the bedroom to find a solution seems appropriate!

i think it would be quite an interesting thread to discuss how our "on-line personas" measure up to our "real" selves. i think i am much more conciliatory on mumsnet than i am in real life (errmm, there is a reason for my nickname!), but nevertheless, against my better judgement, have got involved in a couple of spats!

thanks to all those still up!

leander · 22/03/2003 00:14

I call my house the 1/2way house cause DH as lovely as he is never seems to finish ANYthing,I've had my floor tiles for the kitchen sitting in the garage for 2 years, ooh dont let me get started or I'll end up turning this into a rant thread!!

bossykate · 22/03/2003 00:15

eek, angie, doesn't sound much fun, but anyway, hope you have a good time!

Angiel · 22/03/2003 00:17

I'm off to bed now. Hope to speak to you all again soon. Night night.

bossykate · 22/03/2003 00:18

ooh leander, not quite the same thing, but i do get irritated when dh wants 100% credit for a sloppy, half effort. hope he finishes it soon!

judetheobscure · 22/03/2003 00:19

We've got swimming in the morning, 9am. What happened to lie-ins at the weekend - so long ago .....

leander · 22/03/2003 00:22

goodnight girls I'm off to watch Friends which I hope dh has taped for me,
bossykate I can't ever see the house being finished but if by some miracle it does i suppose it'll be time to start all over again.
