Windows security alert since adding windows updates

On Sunday, I added the windows updates and since then, whenever I start up windows I get a security alert saying virus status is unknown and my pc could be at risk. I also get a funny red 'shield' with a white cross at the bottom of my desktop screen on the toolbar thingy down there.

I do have norton, it is up to date and subscription havs not run and and auto-protect is enabled......

ANy ideas???

Did the same last week. It should say that Windows doesn't recognise all anti-virus software so if you know you are up to date (as I am) I think you can ignore. Maybe they just want you to buy theirs?!! Can't remember quite how -though it must have been simple- you can get rid of message and shield thingy. Actually I noticed a quite a few things changed after that update but nothing major.

KangaMummy · 12/10/2004 10:05

I get it too but I am thinking of using RESTORE so I can get rid of it.

What else have you noticed after update?

JuniperDewdrop · 12/10/2004 10:07

I put automatic updates and the date time etc.. but still got an icon asking me to update? I've ignored it so far as I'm worried it's a fake or something. Or am I just being paranoid?

Miriam2 · 12/10/2004 10:13

'set programmes and access defaults' has added itself to my start list -no idea what that is- and when computer starts up that moving line thingy has changed from green to blue!!!

popsycal · 12/10/2004 10:14

my windows alert always tells me when updates are availble.....
norton does automatic live updates....

going to go to microsoft webiste and ask

I've got this too at the moment. I think it's because they just want you to buy their version so I have just ignored it.

popsycal · 12/10/2004 11:11
