Try not to get tense, I know its hard. I didnt pass to my fifth attempt, its heartbreaking if you fail, but you have lost nothing by doing so. Im sure you will pass with flying colours, but if not its a useful experience for next time. My advice would be to tell nobody you know, it takes off the pressure and its a great buzz telling everyone if you do pass. Good luck.

EvesMama · 11/10/2004 21:25

thanks pepsi, what a great 'pep' talk (sorry!)
im just extra nervous cos triumphantly failed mock test couple of weeks ago and felt like i was starting again just after...confidence was shot! feeling better after another two lessons, but i suppose its just one of those things isnt it? when(in my opinion!) your a sahm, you feel like everything is a massive hurdle and a driving test makes me quake!!

I know, Im a SAHM. I passed my test about 5 years ago and still havent had the guts to go on a motorway.

EvesMama · 11/10/2004 21:37

just watching something about that on top gear tonight, she was followed by film crew and advice they gave her was...keep your own space (one that you feel comfortable with an dont let anyone confine you, drop back if they are) and keep your arms and hands relaxed, give your shoulders a shake to try and release the tension..however, ill probably be back saying the same thing v.soon!!lol

Best of luck for your test EvesMama

I took mine (and passed) in July of this year. I found that Bach Rescue Remedy (mine is in spray form from Boots), really helped my nerves. I still use it if I have a new and intimidating driving moment coming up (first time out with DD, motorways etc etc), I keep it in my handbag.

wear some nice comfy rubber-soled shoes, not too thick, so you can feel the peddles through them. practise the reversing until you can do it in your sleep, and lots of clutch control on hills (i was behind a milk float on hill with mini roundabout at top on my test! I passed!)

motherinferior · 12/10/2004 12:40

Yep, if you don't pass this time you WILL pass another time. I should know. Took me five goes. And four instructors. And 17 years. But I got there in the end (and had a baby five days later!)

(not that it will take you that long, honestly - and I wasn't learning uninteruptedly for that long!)

Jennisaurus · 12/10/2004 14:13

Good luck! EvesMama (your dd has nearly same name as mine )

Angeliz · 12/10/2004 14:16

Evesmama, good luck

(and if you ever do have a wee bump, just think of it as giving the new shiny car a bit of character)

EvesMama · 14/10/2004 20:07

thanks for all the support girls and i will look for that bach rememdy NomDePlume! am on fluoxitine ad at mo so they chill me out a bit but still get nervous about driving.

Good luck!!
Passed mine on the third attempt in April, one day before my theory expired.
If you know you can do the manouveres you'll be fine. If you do anything wrong just keep calm and show you know how to correct your mistakes. I failed my second test after hitting the kerb whilst reversing round a corner (twice!) In the end I gave up and drove off and the test examiner told me at the end that he would have passed me if I could have shown him I could do it - seeing as the rest of my test was so good. Even if you stall so long as you follow all the correct proceedures you can pass. They just want to see that you are capable of being let loose on your own!
Having said that a month or so after passing I 'crashed'/pranged the car and have hardly been out since!!!

tammybear · 14/10/2004 20:24

Good luck evesmama

good luck! Think we 'talked' before about the joys of driving lessons/test, didn't we? Recommend lavendar oil to dab under yr nose - helped me through mine yesterday which I passed!
BTW, anyone looking for an intensive, which is how I did it can really recommend a great school in Norfolk, staying in a lovely, friendly b & b -
www.drivingcoursesrus.com/index.html
I found it far less daunting than trying to do a test down in the SE getting cut up all the time by impatient drivers. Also remember my instructor said to think of examiner as human - just want to see you'd be safe on the road by yourself, they're not out to catch you out - mine was lovely - I even found myself giving him a kiss when he passed me!

Hulababy · 16/10/2004 09:31

Good luck!

edam · 16/10/2004 09:54

Good luck EvesMama and congratulations to everyone who has just passed.

tangerinecath · 16/10/2004 10:33

Best of luck EvesMama, I'm with the rescue remedy brigade, wonderful stuff!

I took my driving test on the day my final year dissertation was due at uni, I'd been up most of the night putting the finishing touches to it, and was so stressed about it that I hardly gave my driving test a second thought. I passed my test with only 4 minor faults, even though my instructor was convinced that I would fail as I'd had so many crap lessons just before the test. Wouldn't recommend this as a good way to pass your test though!

btw, I passed my dissertation and got my degree too

EvesMama · 16/10/2004 20:07
