berolina promise me you'll be this supportive when it's going to be me tearing my hair out waiting for DC2 in a few months time. 'cos I know he/she'll be late as dd1 was too good for words! promise.

PippiLangstrump · 19/09/2007 23:14

we like fakes on this thread by the way!

berolina · 19/09/2007 23:15

Pippi, I will positively bombard you with whatever labour vibes are needed (and not mix any German ones in )

Ellbell · 19/09/2007 23:17

OK... Saturday is good. You can go into labour on Friday night, give birth on Saturday morning and I'll be at home in the afternoon to receive Mr Berolina's phone call! D'you like the way I've got it all planned for you? Friday would be OK too, though. I have a 'Friday's child' (dd2) and she really is 'loving and giving'.

berolina · 19/09/2007 23:18

Sorted

Ellbell · 19/09/2007 23:19

LOL! Must go and practise my paper again. [Nervous emoticon]!

PippiLangstrump · 19/09/2007 23:22

or 'You can go into labour on Friday night, give birth on Saturday morning and BE HOME IN THE AFT' like I did!

berolina · 19/09/2007 23:24

Am English, dh is German, we live there and I speak it to near-native level.

Oh, I do hope I'll be out quickly. They like you to stay in a nice long time in Germany...

PippiLangstrump · 19/09/2007 23:24

night night, guten nacht lieben nacht (sp?), bonanotte sogni d'oro to you all.
pippi's about to collapse.

berolina · 19/09/2007 23:25

Night

PippiLangstrump · 19/09/2007 23:26

oh yes like in italy. everyone was so shocked when I said I was out the same day with no 1. it worked well for me as I really wanted to go home but TBH I think they were so happy as really wanted the bed! (NHS shame once again!)

PippiLangstrump · 19/09/2007 23:27

I must have 'seen' you in sssanndy's threads. are you one of these that likes it or dislikes it?

basta!!!! I must retire. (ciao cath...erm..zucca )

berolina · 19/09/2007 23:29

Like, on the whole - well, enough to feel comfortable -, while intensely disliking particular aspects and having to squash regular waves of England-homesickness.

francagoestohollywood · 20/09/2007 12:07

wonders whether Ellbell is now reading her paper...
wonders if Berolina might actually be in labour...

I actually spent three blissful nights at hospital in Italy when ds was born. I don't think I could have faced going home any sooner. Only one night here with dd ( I had the most amazing midwife at the birth). Had to go back 4 days later, as she had a temperature ...

PippiLangstrump · 20/09/2007 12:11

did they leave the baby with you in italy?

francagoestohollywood · 20/09/2007 12:14

yes, they have what it's called "rooming in" (probably a word made up by Italians I'm not sure). But, if you want, you can take baby to the little nursery and they'll take baby to you as soon as baby cries. Given that ds cried the bloody all time from day one, he was always with me...

Pippi, I forgot to ask (or you mentioned and i forgot, which is now typical of me, moemory's gone) when is your due date? (I guess sometime in April?) Have you had the 12 weeks scan already (can't concentrate to figure it out on my own) . Ha! How exciting!!!

OP posts:
PippiLangstrump · 20/09/2007 12:44

you might be right, it sounds quite peaceful. especially now with DD I might be happy to stay in in peace fpor a bit.
what's a midwife in italian?

francagoestohollywood · 20/09/2007 12:58

It wasn't that peaceful, I tell you, ds was an extremely noisy baby, but I was shattered after the birth and probably in a bit of a shock. I was apprehensive about the baby (who was clearly very healthy, but you know how first time mum can be... I mean we are all different but each of us has her particular "anxieties" about baby, I think) and was reassured about the presence of nurses, paediatricians etc. So this "reassurance" outweigghted - for me - the mess of a hospital. I was much more confident with dd, had an easy, non traumatic birth, was walking after an hour from delivery (which I couldn't with ds) and was happy to go home asap.
midwife is ostetrica.

OP posts:
PippiLangstrump · 20/09/2007 13:14

I thought obstetrician is different from midwife.

you might be right it could also depend of sort of labour you have. also at the time home = peace. now home = bombsite/bombshell/trenches/hardlabour etc

I am in open arms. I thought first time round that there's little point in make a plan ... one thing is for sure this time I'll have my mum here for as long as I need, not just a week. there're no heroes this time!!

francagoestohollywood · 20/09/2007 13:32

obstetrician e' il ginecologo esperto in ostetricia. My mum stayed here more than 3 weeks when dd was born! she was supposed to stay for 2 weeks, but then dd got ill and we had to stay in hospital for 5 days. I didn't want her to leave me~!Mum was a star: looked after ds, cooked and comforted me (I had been so happy after dd's birth and then felt totally down when she was unwell). My mum is brilliant with babies, really. And it was great having her here, as ds needed lots of attention too. We were able to leave dd with my mum for 2 hrs and took ds for a much needed pizza .
