Hello Mumsnet
YorkieHusband here. This is the first time I have been on here, although I have heard about it from my wife, Yorkiegirl.
For those of you that know, I was made redundant over the summer, and have just got a job at Marks and Spencers. Before I start my training next week, I have to do a bit of research on M&S. I am sure there will be some of you who hate M&S with a passion, but it would be helpful to me if we could try and keep this as positive as possible. No slanging matches if you please!
Anyway, I need to know what your favourite M&S product is and why. I hope lots of you reply to this and help me out!
Thank you very much
YorkieHusband

Bedlinen for me - the 100% cotton stuff though, not that horrid "easy care" stuff, egyptian cotton please.
And also the chocolate sponge puddings with a chocolate sauce, I know everywhere does these but the M+S ones are by far the best.

My absolute all time favourite is their Lobster Thermodor - so handy when you can't make it out to a restaurant! And while your there can you ask them why they don't do their 100 denier tights in brown - grrrr! Yorkiehusband, d'ya mind me asking - how are you going to use all this info?

Flowers/plants for gifts eg bought metal basket with two miniature roses in for Mum and MIL for Mother's Day - both still going strong.

Also some of the children's books/toys make good gifts. Bought my nephew a lovely set of four rattles for £6 the other day.

I love their food but it is too expensive atm

in particular I love their lunchtime salads and their roast chicken sandwich

their crinkle cut reduced fat ready salted crisps

their smoothies

their italian style cookies - lovely taste, interesting flavours - espresso flavour, lemon flavour etc

I think the baby clothes are a bit uninspiring and overpriced, and think the adult clothes are a bit overpriced.

snmum · 08/10/2004 14:46

I think of M&S and think QUALITY

evrything is of good quality there

there undrwear is amazing

food is brill too

Clothes always last and dont date too quickly

Good Luck btw

baby vests - v soft and the neck park isn't itchy
always buy dd her underwear, tights and socks from there. The tights don't loose their shape or pill....socks are just 'nice' and plain . Think I just pick up the undies alongside the other things!
socks, tights and undies, lots of choice

don't buy any food regulary, too much ££££

popsycal · 08/10/2004 21:03

underwear

Piffleoffagus · 08/10/2004 21:10

Angeliz · 08/10/2004 21:11

Pastichio (was in the ready meal section and it's Greek but i found out today they don't do it anymore )

emmatmg · 08/10/2004 21:14

Not sure if they still do it but the chocolate/vanilla ice cream with malteasers in it is divine!

The fruit jelly pots with grapes, strawberries and satsuma are preety good too.

Oh! and no one can make an egg and cress sarnie like M&S

emmatmg · 08/10/2004 21:15

pretty good even

zebra · 08/10/2004 21:20

Do you want a man's opinion, YH? DH says "cream"? His mother always buys it there, swears by it. DH is a bit of a cream snob, so must be pretty good, I reckon.

joanneg · 09/10/2004 17:46

I think that M&S food is great, especially their lunch time stuff - really good range and well thought out. I would buy the clothes but my local M&S only go up to size 18 on most clothes and I am bigger than this and gutted

hatter · 09/10/2004 17:51

knickers and bras and tights - never go anywhere else. Basic t-shirts, or t-shirts with a wee bit of trim. Was really impressed the other week, went looking for a pressie for friends with a new baby and found a lovely set of soft cloth bricks, wrapped in a white net bag with a little ribbon, for £8, which I thought was a real bargain, compared with the £25-odd you need to spend to send flowers. have to say, though, I think the kids clothes are way off the mark, can't remember the last time I saw something I really liked. M&S used to be a reliable source of basics (plain t-shirts, leggings, cardigans) but no longer - does some nice basics for babies and occassional nice basics for older kids - but occassional isn't good enough - afraid mums (and let's face it - it usually is) don't have time to visit a shop on the off-chance they'll have white long-sleeved t-shirts - they need to know they do! And, imho, teh non-basic stuff is too tarty, frilly, pink etc etc (like everywhere else tbh, maybe it's just me...)

Twiga · 09/10/2004 17:52

I love their underwear and pjs.

Cadbury · 09/10/2004 17:53

Well, knickers, of course. Their maple cures bacon is geaven and I've been known to get through a pack of the applewood and drycure smoked ham in a few minutes! My kids love the ready meal shepherds pies and I'm a big fan of the mint crumble sweets. I would by clothes far more often from there if it was a smidge cheaper and always went up to a 22. I did once get a fantastically comfortable pair of stretch jeans from there (in thinner days)
