i don't understand this at all... it has to be opt-in, can't be opt-out. it's the act of opting-in that makes you stop and think when you see 'where can i buy night nappies for my 7-year-old?' or whatever, hang on, let me just check the section this is in.

Yes, I suppose it would be. DD's SALT was far more clued on glue ear and effects on speech than the ENT consult was.

I have always had the SN boc ticked.

I did this forst of all because I teach children with SN, and it is invaluable for me to get parental view points on SEN in schools etc.....so this is me being selfish and needing information.

Later I found that I could sometimes post helpful (hopefully) info on aspects of statmenting etc

And now my son has sen, so I've sort of gone full circle

I think that opting in makes you think for ,and makes it far less likly to get people posting innaproriate things by accident because they don't realise that they are on a SN thread.
