Sarah Grace Boxes ... calling all mumsnetters

Hi Mumsnetters,

A friend of a friend recently lost her little girl at 3 days old to a rare heart condition called HLHS.

Sarah Grace Boxes

She has bravely gone on to setup a charity in her baby's name called Sarah Grace Boxes - it provides parents of premature babies and those who have suffered a neonatal loss with all they need to create a memory box for their baby.

The most urgent need is for blankets, newborn hats, booties and clothes. If you have any unwanted items I would be so grateful if you could send them on to me so that they can be recycled for the boxes. If you can help please contact me at [email protected].

It is a lovely idea & I will sort through dd's new baby things for some bit & pieces for you.I was going to send them to a charity shop,but this is a much better place for them.

Oh, Dejags, what a sad story and what a very nice idea to emerge from such grief.
I was given a box for Tom by dear friends whose baby had died many years previously and thought it was such a thoughtful present. Our newborn stuff is all off with the adult daughter of the very same friends, she is about to become a mum herself for the first time. But it will come back to us in a few months and I will contact you then.
Doing something to help other parents can be a healing experience, I know. Your friend is a wonderful woman and Sarah Grace was the most beautiful baby. HLHS is a cruel, cruel scourge.

what a very brave woman and man, and what a beautiful daughter, amongst the sadness. I will look through my stuff, see if I have anything left. It is a very good idea

I find things like this truly insprising. I am sat here sobbing because I honselty don't know how I'd cope.

Hi Dejags. so sorry about what your friends have been through. I have tons of stuff at home that I was about to charity shop. Any particular items of clothing you think most suitable? I.e. babygros or outfits? And a really stupid question but presumably a bog standard mothercare pram blanket would be OK? I'll e-mail you on the address you gave for further details.

Items that aren't suitable for the boxes (i.e. if it's a bit too big) will not be discarded, they will definitely go to a charity shop or be given to a suitable charity.

Come on there must be more of you who can help... please .

Have to say that I am quite disappointed with the response - starting to wonder if it's me?

I have seen threads about replacing lost toys with a huge response and whilst that is a great cause, this is too.

Give it time dejags, I expect some people don't get time to log on until the evening.

The story was heart wrenching and all the more so since my DS was also born in April 04 and I could identify.
Off to drag out the bags of baby things and have a rummage.

i guess as well dejags some people might feel funny about parting with baby stuff if they feel it is like closing the door to them having more children. i'm sure it isn't anything personal

I'll have a look when I get home what I've got, but I have passed most of my baby stuff on to friends who've had babies since (may be a reason why you haven't had much of a response if other hvae done similar).

Does it matter how well used thew stuff is?

Dejags, sorry tiny baby clothes all gone. The only thing i could possibly help you with is a logo, handmade journals, or anything arty like that. Good Luck with more response

I only today gave away my moses & pram sheets, and last month got rid of all newbie bgros, sorry. Feel bad as I have two healthy boys and would loved to have helped. Will search and see if I have missed anything, but I know it was all together, I would much rather have given it to something like this, as the clothes etc are hardly used.

I've also passed most of my stuff on to friends - but it will come back to me eventually!

I will double check whether I have any cot blankets etc left tonight.

Otherwise, I will make a cash donation

Oh, I can't believe that beautiful little baby died, she looks so perfect. A friend's dd who died of a heart complaint looked so very, very sick, not at all like Sarah.

I don't have anything to send and tbh I'm a bit confused as to what the parents do with the blankets and hats etc? Are they for the baby to wear - would they want secondhand stuff? I could knit some little hats/mittens/bootees, if that would help - CAT me if I can help.
