I know this is going to revolt you but how about putting on a pair of rubber gloves and putting your hand down there? What is it blocked with? Or is that too personal a question?

what is blocking it?
we had a blocked drain (turned out to be a bunch of dried leaves thankfully) and used a plunger and a special spray from diy shop but made no difference. in the end we called a plumber from yellow pages and he solved the problem in 20 minutes. They've seen it all by the way so don't be embarrassed by what they might find there. they have a special long wire thing that unblocks the pipes so you couldn't do it yourself.

Ds3 (18 months) unravelled a whole loo roll and stuffed it in the loo the other day and I had to use rubber gloves to get it out but then I did know there wasn't anything else down there with it IYKWIM.

Can't you get that Harpic stuff - thats supposed to shift blockages ? Although a man with a big plunger does sound more exciting !

That long wire thing is called a snake over here! And not a trouser snake either FF! Sara, do you have a plunger? I would try the Mr. Muscle if you can keep the water going, there should not be a chance that it will marr the porcelain.

I wouls send dh round with his set of rods essbee, but he is working. Sounds like a blockage outside though. Have you lifted up the drain cover and looked how backed up it is?

don't use Mr Muscle!! It might not be cos it marks the pan - it might corrode the rubber seals or something!

Since the levels go down, its obviously not completely blocked, try a bit of washing up liquid to lubricate whatever is blocking it - presumably the wipes - and keep flushing. Hopefully, it will gradually clear!

And wee in the sink!

It should be somewhere either on or near your property essbee. It will be rectangular. Dh has just popped in and said the first thing you should do is check with your neighbours either side of you, if they are having any problems, as it may be further along than you think. If they are having probs as well, then the blockage will be in the main drain, and not the toilet itself.

Where we live now, we have a cover right outside the bathroom, and where we lived before, it was in the back garden, but it may well be in a neighbours garden or in the street, so you will have to do some research.

if you live in a row of houses (terraced)the blockage might be in someonelse's drain. the plumber would probably look at the other drain covers as well. your drain cover should be near the house, near the bathroom wall.you could probably see a pipe coming out of the wall, unless masked indoors with a false wall (some type of boxed wooden boards near the wall, possibly tiled if in the bathroom)soemtimes the pipe might go underneath the house and you'd find the end of it in this drain hole. you may well have 2 drain holes (for water from sinks and water from toilets).

this isnt very nice to do, but ghet a old jumper or something similar and a dustbin bag, put the jumper in the loo and the dustbin bag on your arm, then pump the jumper into the loo a few times, sorry not very nice but will save money on calling a plumer out
