.........followed by a cascade of feathers into the garden! On investigation there is a bloody great pigeon prostrate in the garden against the fence! Daft sod had flown into the bedroom window. It has now recovered enough to be hopping about but it obviously can't fly - what the hell do I do with it now?
DD2 kept asking if it was dead, or will it die Mummy? Now she's gone to bed but every other sentence was 'is the pigeon still there Mummy'. DD1 now home and wants me to DO something Mummy!!!!!

I have found this tory in a local newspaper-type website:

A pigeon has been rescued in a dramatic joint effort between the RSPCA and fire service in Abingdon.

The RSPCA was called after the bird was spotted hanging by its foot in netting on a Church tower.

It was tangled up in the mesh and was swinging by its foot, knocking its wings against the stonework as it tried to escape.

The pigeon was exhausted, thin and dehydrated after the battle to free itself, which had probably been going on since early morning.
Head for heights
In the hour-long rescue, RSPCA Inspector Doug Davidson was lifted up to the tower's clock face using a fire engine's platform. He managed to free the bird and it was taken to a nearby rescue centre for treatment.

"The pigeon was more than 60ft above ground and could hardly keep its eyes open when I reached him," said Inspector Davidson.

"The RSPCA would like to thank the firefighters for helping us to rescue the pigeon and bring it to safety."

WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY!!!! It's like rescuing a RAT!

RSPCA 24 hour advice line is 0870 55 55 999. Wouldn't hurt to ring them. Pigeon has been down for a while now. Surely it would fly if it could? Let us know what happens

Its found a 'safe' little corner to camp in and keeps returning to it! Soooo am too wimpy to go and try to get it myself, dh not back for ages and even if I WAS brave enough to get it can't go anyway with dc in bed! . Thanks southeastra - not too keen on the 'risk of injury to handler' bit I must say.

A friend of mine ,a few years back, had a racing pigeon take up residency in her dd's playhouse.
I was called to catch it which i did with some wrestlingi called the rspca and they asked me for the number on the ringtag ,called the owner whom told me to put a bin over it and bang on it
The pigeon soon regained the use of it's wings.

Do you have a cat you could send out to finish the job?

I really hate pigeons. They taste nice though.
