Just a quickie here, but do the rest of you keep getting the soft drinks pop up every couple of minutes when you are signed onto this site? I am finding it very annoying, especially as I don't buy any of the drinks they are surveying!!

Yep, me too!

Mopsy · 13/07/2002 19:52

Me too

Tinker · 13/07/2002 19:54

I was just about to start a thread on this! Even if I did buy any of them, I'd refuse to complete it, it's soooo annoying.

Enid · 13/07/2002 20:02

I get it when I first open mumsnet, if I close it it doesnt seem to come back.

Still, they have to raise money somehow I spose.

MandyD · 13/07/2002 20:08

We use 'Pop Up Stopper' from www.panicware.com - stops pop ups in their tracks!

susanmt · 13/07/2002 20:11

Thanks MandyD I'm going to try htat this one is driving me insane!

SofiaAmes · 13/07/2002 21:33

wow. i feel left out. i'm not getting a soft drinks pop up! I keep the "Last Day" page as a Bookmark in Netscape so I rarely go through the home page. Maybe that's why i don't get it.

Alibubbles · 13/07/2002 21:54

We don't drink any of them either, it is annoying!

jodee · 13/07/2002 22:03

Grrrr! Getting fed up too! Even when I gave up and completed it, it STILL popped up. Thanks MandyD for that tip, will do that right away.

Fionn · 13/07/2002 22:05

I'm getting it too. Dp says that would usually happen because the site uses free web space which means it's open to advertisers, or that the site allows ads/pop-ups. I'd be surprised if that's the case with Mumsnet though, especially as I haven't seen any pop-ups before on the site.

Tinker · 13/07/2002 23:59

Yes! Got rid of it! Thanks.

SofiaAmes · 14/07/2002 09:45

I double-checked...if I go into mumsnet through the home page the pop up shows up. However if I start with another page (do this by bookmarking it) then the popup is no where to be seen! Try it.

Binker · 14/07/2002 15:45

I've had it too - I eventually typed in my preference and was told that I didn't qualify for their survey (as I like Diet Dr Pepper),then next thing the pesky pop up thing came up again !

Marina · 14/07/2002 19:06

It might be that Mumsnet is using this as a method of raising some much-needed cash...I haven't seen anything like it on here before. I too started the survey but was presumably chucked off for not buying any Sunny Delight

WideWebWitch · 14/07/2002 20:04

I've never seen this pop up but I've bookmarked "active conversations" and therefore don't go through the Home page. I think SofiaAmes is right.

pupuce · 14/07/2002 21:32

Also annoyed... so who is buying the right soft drink???

WideWebWitch · 14/07/2002 21:58

If it's Sunny Delight I hope nobody's buying it...

justiner · 15/07/2002 10:43

Hi all,
Oh dear - seems you're not keen on the pop-up. We half-suspected this may be so! Bascically having the pop-up for a week will cover a month's server costs. It's not a great amount of money but, as you know, every little helps. It's due to come down tomorrow - hope you can live with it until then.

Well you've just invited us to subscribe. So which is it to be? If I'm paying a voluntary subscription I've no intention of putting up with unwanted advertising.

justiner · 15/07/2002 13:11

Unfortunately eemie, it's not really a case of either/ or. Take a look at the What do you think of the mumsnet books concept? thread for more detail. However, if pop-ups annoy people that much we won't do them in future (at least, for as long as we can survive without doing so...)

They're very irritating, but only take a moment to close. I agree that if it's valuable revenue for you, that you really can't do withoout - then go ahead & have the pop-ups (just not too many at a time though!)

Ems · 15/07/2002 13:55

Are people so rushed with so little time in the day that they cant click it off?!

Its not asking you to do anything, say anything or take part in anything, if you dont want to, it is there to be ignored if you so wish.

Enid · 15/07/2002 14:01

I think we should all take the time to fill it in so that the advertiser comes back for more - support mumsnet!!!

Tetley · 15/07/2002 14:05

I've just done that, Enid! I must have read your mind!!!
