Hi everyone, I am really stuck, I put my emergency credit on my electric with British gas on Thursday thinking it would see me through the weekend, ive been using as little as possible, making sure the plugs are off ect and this morning it started beeping, i have 6p left and no way of getting any cash. This is in no way a begging msg just an enquiry, does anyone know if with me having a child if they will turn my electricity off? Im so worried.

It won't cut off until 9am tomorrow, and if the meter is newer than 2008 it won't cut off on a Sunday. After that it will cut off. I'm afraid that having a child in the house makes no difference. Fortunately it is august.

Get your phone charged.

mum2myeverything · 20/08/2017 12:27

Hi thank you for getting back to me, you were right and the electricity has been switched off! I managed to charge my phone and we've been going for walks and to the park. Its actually been quite nice. The only problem we have is not being able to cook food and my little boy really doesn't like the dark but we will get through. Does anyone know if I dont open the freezer how long the food will last? Thank you in advance for reading and any suggestions welcome x

Our power kept tripping one saturday night until we gave up and let it stay off. The food in our fridge freezer was still frozen and showing no sign of defrosting at 14:00 the next day. Do not open the freezer door!

ILoveGrammar0 · 20/08/2017 12:37

If you leave the freezer closed and it is full, then it should stay frozen for 48 hours.

Is the hob electric?

NameChangedAndForgotOldName · 20/08/2017 12:45

It shouldn't have gone off at the weekend? Have you tried ringing your supplier? They can put some extra emergency on sometimes

mum2myeverything · 20/08/2017 15:00

Hi, I'm on an old meter so unfortunately it has run out and the supplier have said there is nothing they can do. And yes the hob is electric! Thanks everyone its good to not feel completely alone having you guys to talk to xx

Do you have anyone you or Dc could stay with overnight? Do you have money coming in the next couple of days?

mum2myeverything · 20/08/2017 16:45

I have money coming weds, and were new to this area, i left my home town as my hubby left me for another women and my mum died, I just couldn't bear to see the ex settle with someone else and not having mum anymore I had no reason to stay, xxx

Oh heck! Maybe post what cupboard food you have left in. Some posters here are very good at stretching meals. How's your DC doing? Are you ok?
Hopefully this will bump so someone who can advise more practical measures will be along.
Can you and dc sleep in same bed tonight? Is he in school/nursery tomorrow?

MTverystressed · 20/08/2017 19:31

How did the evening/last night go?

mum2myeverything · 21/08/2017 10:05

Hi it was ok, I've been in tears this morning though because there is no way my foods going to last and the guilt I feel about putting my boy through this. I should of thought on but it was a genuine mistake

Google to find your local food bank. There should be one that can help you. Flowers

quarterpast · 21/08/2017 10:14

Dear OP, what a horrible situation for you to be in. Do you have anything you could pawn until Weds? You can get a referral to a food bank from your health visitor or GP, you could call them today and say it's an emergency. I really hope things improve for you and your little one soon x

mum2myeverything · 21/08/2017 10:18

I have nothing, when me n the ex split, I had to leave with the clothes on my back, I pawned everything to get where I am today. Im in such mess. I sometimes think the world conspires against me xxxx

welshweasel · 21/08/2017 10:28

How old is your boy? Do you have a childrens centre near you? They would help, give you a cuppa and sort out food bank for you.

mum2myeverything · 21/08/2017 12:17

I do but its 3 towns away and I dont even have the bus fair. I'm gonna go to the food Bank in the morning, so that will help, thank you for getting back to me, oh and my little boy is 7, he's being such a good boy about things. Xxxxxxx
