your parents silly sayings

what sayings do you find yourself saying to your kids that your parents said to you even though they dont make any sense
eg choke up chicken

My Dad used to say, "I see ...... said the blind man to his deaf wife"
I said it to DS the other day and he was phsl

If we drew a picture that my dad couldn't recognise (as kids do) he would say, "Oh yes, I see. I had one of those once. But the wheels fell off"
It became a family joke.
I guess you had to be there though

My dad used to say "You dirty little Arab" if we had grubby knees or whatever. I didn't know what an Arab was and it was only a few years ago that I worked it out (he had a strong accent).

It's shocking, the casual racism, isn't it?

My mum always ( and still does say in a rather too loud voice)

"What you see when you haven't got a gun"

Usually accompanied by a nudge and a point in the direction of the unfortunate she is reffering to !!

I also hate it when she say's " Off to shed a tear for my country" and disappears in to the loo for an hour or so ... Eeeeuuukkk !

fil says to dd's "look with your eyes not your hands"

I nearly fell off my chair laughing!

When Mum wanted to go somewhere without us she'd say she was going
"Up the puhoi shooting pukeko with a long handled shovel"

A tantrum was "having the collywobbles"

If I complained about ANYTHING my Mum would tell me it was "better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick"
