massagemum · 16/03/2007 15:05

Get straight down to slimming world. I lost 21/2 stone in 6 monthes and went from a 20 to a 14 in about 5.

I wasn't even that strict. You can do it!!!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 16/03/2007 15:05

God yes
everytime you look at a dairy milk., imagine the PANic on the big day of not being able to do the zip up

if that aint motivation, i don't know what is!

I've heard sw good

Cloudhopper · 16/03/2007 15:12

I did it and didn't even try that hard. I was so busy and stressed that the weight dropped off in the last few months. In the end I lost too much weight and the dress had to be radically altered. It went from size 16 to size 12 and looked like a completely different dress by the time they had finished!

Weight watchers is really good, as is doing a bit of extra exercise.

inanidealworld · 16/03/2007 15:15

I think you definitely can. I did in less. This is what I did- a sort of homemade version of the Atkins (nutrionists don't jump on me)

  1. Don't deprive yourself of things you like (doomed to fail)- just reduce portions

2 Never mix carbohydrates and proteins in same meal

3 Eat loads of fruit and veg

eg Steak and salad, or baked potato and salad NOT steak and baked potato iyswim.
sandwiches are out, pizzas are out(unless its a margherita).

inanidealworld · 16/03/2007 15:16

like cloudhopper, after a while it doesn't even feel like a diet just a way of eating and you're not calorie counting or obsessed with scales.

kittylette · 16/03/2007 15:20

i was an 18 and bought a 14,

i now need it taking in, and have about 10lbs still to go

its easy if you really put your mind to it, loads of exercise -no cheating with treats!!

littlemissbossy · 16/03/2007 15:22

I think it's perfectly achievable - but - join weight watchers or slimming world and use every opportunity to exercise AND more importantly, no cheating. Good luck
PS report on here every day and we'll keep you going

dmo · 16/03/2007 19:03

Cappuccino · 16/03/2007 19:05

weight watchers

is very good

I am doing it now in fact

BecauseImWorthIt · 16/03/2007 19:14

Don't count on losing weight through stress in the last few weeks before the wedding! Everyone told me that too and it was a complete fib!

Work out how much weight you have to lose, and then how many weeks you have to go to the wedding. You should not count on losing more than 2lbs a week (for sensible and sustained weight loss), so multiply the number of weeks you have by 2 and that will be the number of pounds it will be possible to lose in that time.

Roughly: 7 months = 7 x c.4 weeks = 28 weeks
28 x 2lbs = 56 lbs, which is 4 stones

It doesn't sound like you need to lose that much so you should be able to do it in 7 months! Good luck

pesme · 16/03/2007 19:19

i was an 18 in august and 12 by christmas, definitely possible. how much do you love the dress?

noonar · 16/03/2007 19:21

low carbs and carb curfew- works a treat. went from 11st to 9.5 after both dds.

fussymummy · 16/03/2007 19:32

Course you can do it if you put your mind to it.

I've lost 37 lb in ten weeks by doing the cambridge diet.

Have a look at some of the diet threads and you can get support on there as well.

Having family tell me i couldn't do it would make me want to prove them wrong!!!

Good luck for your big day.

kittylette · 16/03/2007 19:34

whats the cambridge diet please?

noonar · 16/03/2007 19:39

no offense to you fussy, but steer well clear of meal replacement diets like camb/ slimfast. they do nothing to cahnge eating habits.

if you want to feel full up, and lose weight just eat fresh wholesome food, low in sugar and fat. snack on dried fruit, nuts etc. it's all the processed crap that causes weight gain.

fussymummy · 16/03/2007 19:54

noonar i understand what you're saying, but for a quick weight loss they really work.
But to be honest, my attitude to food has already changed.

I've been big for so long now and i know this diet will get me to where i want to be, quicker than any other.

kittylette Cambridge Diet costs approx £30 per week and you get all your soups, shakes and bars included, plus you get counselling and one to one weigh in.

You have to drink between 2-4 litres of water a day.

It does work and you will see a rapid weight loss.

Look on the Cambridge Diet thread. Sorry not much good with links!

noonar · 16/03/2007 19:57

fussy, i did this in my teens, although i was only 9.5 stone. mad. thats why i'm anti any 'non food' diet. used to lie in bed unable to sleep due to hunger. i wanted to be 8 stone

fussymummy · 16/03/2007 20:07

noonar I'm no way near that and never will be.

If i feel really hungry i have an extra bar or shake and i have fruit as well.

Also eat loads of celery.

Can understand why you feel the way you do.

SidtheKidsMum · 16/03/2007 20:29

It'll be no problem with that kind of goal in mind. Go for it!

I lost two and a half stone in about 8/9 months. High fibre breakfast (lovely) - something like Bran Flakes with raisins or banana. Soup for lunch. Then whatever DP had at night, just a much smaller portion. No chocs at all, only fruit if I wanted to snack or the odd packet of sweeties (all sugar, no fat) and drinking a lot of water and mint tea. Your taste-buds change over about 2/3 weeks so you stop wanting too much fried food or food high in naughty (but nice) fat. From that point onwards it's so easy. (By the way, I lost that weight with the change in diet and a bit of walking - no trips to the gym). I was the size I wanted to be when I got married. I did wear something unfortunate though, looking back. Still, nice and slim!

Good luck, and bugger the family comments. I didn't really talk about my diet. I didn't want anyone else commenting and putting me down. It was a 'head down, mouth closed' sort of time and it worked for once. You've got the faith to buy a smaller dress, you do it!

nulnulcat · 16/03/2007 20:45

i went from a 14 to an 8 after dd in about 4 months did the not mixing carbs and proteins and didnt eat any carbs after 3pm walked loads and that was it and i stopped drinking beer and drank white wine instead
