hope she is at home, rocking in a corner crying with shame !

what a complete lack of self awareness and awareness of your feelings

so sorry you had to listen to such utter drivel

Jimjams2 · 08/03/2007 19:17

How unbelievably crass, insensitive and lacking in empathy.

misdee · 08/03/2007 19:22

what a mooooooooooooooooooo

i know there are people muttering about why we got dd2 a full time nursery place, but stuff them!

monkeymonkeymoomoo · 08/03/2007 19:27

OMG... I had similar comments when my first husband died, one 'friend' said to me that I was lucky because I didn't have to see my husband (she was in the midst of a messy divorce).

zilm · 08/03/2007 19:36

You have my utmost sympathy and I understand completely as I lost my DH 16 months ago and personally I wouldn't speak to the insensitive crass idiot again. Best of luck with coping.

tribpot · 08/03/2007 19:42

Well, I quite see her point. Honestly, YG, can you not recognise that having a living, wage-earning husband is at least as difficult as what you are going through, if not more so?!?!?!

Glad you can see the humour in the situation, I think I would have decked her one.

Cadmum · 08/03/2007 19:43

Words fail me. I mean honestly. There is no hope for some people.

I am very sorry that you even have to spend a small portion of your life in the presence of such a @#@!@#. Perhaps you should print out this thread and mail it to her anonymously?!

hunkermunker · 08/03/2007 19:49

How did you not punch her?

I am appalled anyone can be so crass and insensitive.

Just...ffs!

Miaou · 08/03/2007 19:51

I was telling dh about this, and we both agreed - some people cannot see beyond their own wants and needs. How incredibly self-centred and selfish of her. I'm so that you have to put up with these sort of comments YG - I'm well aware it's not the first time it's happened

tortoiseSHELL · 08/03/2007 19:53

What a stupid woman YG, laugh it off if you can. x

shocked about this yg - sorry you have to deal with people like this. Hugs to you xxx

TeeCee · 08/03/2007 20:37

I can't speak, I'm just sat her looking like this -

fryalot · 08/03/2007 20:37

I bet she parks in disabled bays

maisym · 08/03/2007 20:39

want to add - agree with cadmum

hope she reads this thread - let her see how people are shocked and saddened by her horrid comments.

Ellbell · 08/03/2007 20:43

I hope she's a MN-er and now knows what we all think of her.

Which - in my case - is that she's an ignorant, self-centred bitch.

I am alternately and and very very that you had to listen to this drivel.

kimi · 08/03/2007 20:44

OMG what a stupid stupid thing to say.
You should have ask her if she wanted to swap!
Her DH comes home, she is not having to support her family single handed, stupid stupid woman.

bristols · 08/03/2007 20:48

Incredible. How insensitive and just down right stupid.

GhostOfMumsnet · 08/03/2007 20:51

nothing else to add really, it's all been said. and fantastically well i might add.

but clearly we should feel sorry for the poor woman, she is clearly unable to communication effectively. i'm sure she was trying to say,

"i am really pleased that your dd2 can get to the nursery. i really only wanted the place so that i could get rid of mine for a while so i could sit on my arse and do nothing."

i'm sure she wanted to say that...........

NotanOtter · 08/03/2007 20:52

some peoples life experience is so narrow that they dont attempt to empathise
you are so much better than her - i pity her kids

ah well- people who park in disabled bays because P+T are full, what do you expect! (ducks).

Seriously though I'd quietly drop her. I agree with NAO. She sounds very self centred, put energy into positive people- she sounds energy sapping.....

eemie · 08/03/2007 21:55

YG, sorry you have to listen to this sort of stuff from anyone but glad you can ventilate here.

I think everyone who has suffered a terrible bereavement has had to listen to something similar at some point - the truth is that people literally cannot take in what has happened to you (lucky them).

Sadly the other side of the coin is that the people who are understanding have often suffered some ghastly loss themselves, as of course you know well...

I've had several awful bereavements, none as devastating as yours. Some of the horrible, insensitive things people said have never left me, but they have lost some of their sting over the years...and they taught me how easy it is to hurt someone who's already wounded.

A long winded way of getting back to the old cliche - what doesn't kill you makes you stronger...

All the best

xx

Some people are just so self-absorbed. Wouldnt worry about it Yorkie if she comes out with things like that then people will know shes a nutter.
