yes, except ds1 answered the phone upstairs yesterday, as I had spied Mil number on the phone. Then came down and gave the phone to me, even though I'm mouthing to him "give to Daddy".

Fio2 · 03/07/2004 17:41

ladymuck · 03/07/2004 18:02

Yes - I always keep an eye out for both mum and MIL, and my friends who keep my on the phone for ages.

Mum seems to have decided that phoning at 5pm is best for her (tea time for my 2 - definitely not good!)

lydialemon · 03/07/2004 18:15

absolutely. It winds DH up, but I really really hate talking to MIL on the phone.

Fio2 · 03/07/2004 18:16

and why when she rings does your husband sit there shaking his head whipering 'i'm not in, i'm not in' and then roll his eyes and starts sticking his fingers up when you give him the phone?

codswallop · 03/07/2004 18:43

I throw our phone across the room if not itn eh mood

But I do like mine alot!
you get a handset with a dsplat setting and then pay bt some peanutty amount

OP posts:
codswallop · 03/07/2004 18:43

jampot · 03/07/2004 18:48

Always - and even though she lives in Spain her number still comes up!!! Have also been known to switch off answerphone so she can't leave a message which is v frustrating!!! Although that did backfire on me once when she asked dh if she could have my two sisters' numbers in case they couldn't get hold of us!!!

Tissy · 03/07/2004 18:51

I want a handset with a dsplat setting- it sounds like just the thing to keep unwanted callers at bay

Chinchilla · 03/07/2004 22:12

dSPLAT! hee hee

highlander · 03/07/2004 22:18

Caller ID is the BEST thing ever invented I'm not ashamed to say I used to frequently not answer the phone if it was the MIL.

Sadly, now we're in Canada, the phone doesn't ID international numbers so I have to answer in case it's anyone interesting.

MIL's opening line is always (bearing in mind I'm only 27wks) 'just phoning to see how my grandson is doing' Well, same as last week and I'm fine too, if you're interested .......

Paula71 · 04/07/2004 00:44

My MIL uses 141 withheld number as she thinks that means I don't know it is her phoning up and hanging up when I answer! SIL uses it too.

codswallop · 04/07/2004 00:44

witches

Lisa78 · 04/07/2004 00:47

change your number Paula - that'll get em!
Then when they query it, say you were getting lots of hang up calls
Oooh, and say it was waking your babies up too
Tee hee, evil head on

nightowl · 04/07/2004 01:48

its not expensive, you can either get a box that displays the number for about £10 or a handset that does the same...my cordless phones were £25 and theyre brilliant. as for withheld numbers, i have a block on them so they cant ring me he he. caller id costs £1 a month with telewest and the block costs the same. not sure about bt.

bran · 04/07/2004 13:26

Paula71 get your DH to tell your MIL that as you're getting a lot of hang-ups with the number withheld you're going to ask BT to investigate in case it's a stalker - they can still tell what the calling number is even if she uses 141. That ought to put the wind up her .

ps I don't know if it's that easy to get BT to investigate, but then neither does she I'll bet.

woodpops · 04/07/2004 13:40

Yep, I've got caller ID for MIL detection it's great. We put her in the phone as Oh Shit. So when she rings 'Oh shit' comes on the screen. Still makes me giggle now after 18 months!!!!!!

codswallop · 04/07/2004 13:57

woodpops! that is norty!

god I am going to HATE being a mil

THREE times

OP posts:
roisin · 04/07/2004 14:00

We have this, but the phone just displays the numbers - there's no facility to display the name ... and I can't remember strings of digits. So I STILL don't know who's calling and usually pick it up "just in case it's school".

codswallop · 04/07/2004 14:04

roisin! you dimwit!

i once saw it said " out of area" and thouht it was dh who was abroad

Imagine tha clal centre operatives suprise when I said " hello sweetie pants"
