DS is sick, what would a good Italian mum cook for him? First time he is properly sick, I need to cook him something, even if he might not eat it...

It is horrible this feeling of not knowing Italy, not making sense of the Uk, and everything else that goes with it. Was talking to a good friend today who was very upset because she spent years studying, two degrees, etc and as a result she has a job which she sort of likes, but only sees her kids after 6pm every night, she and her partner who also spent years studying, still cannot afford a property and live in a 1 bed flat, large, but still a 1 bedder. She was envying mums in her little village in the south of Italy, women who never studied, no ambition, who are happy, who get time to take their kids to the beach, spend time with them, don't worry about what they are achieving, etc. I find modern life too complicated. Do you feel less like an outcast because you are finally mixing with people, making more sense of how things are done?

franca70 · 01/03/2007 23:04

I'm not mixing with a lot of people, tbh, med. I have a (very) few friends here... oh my new year's resolution was to be more optimistic! I'm not really sure what I'd choose little village in the south of Italy or two degrees etc. probably two degrees, as much as I love the south of Italy. But yes I find modern life too complicated too. I wish everything was a bit ehm slower. are you worried about the school for your ds? move to exeter!!!

mediterraneo · 01/03/2007 23:34

I would also choose the 2 degrees, but the making a pittance, not seeing the kids enough, not being able to buy a property, that isnt' very nice. Not my situation luckily.
No, I like my ds' school; but many local mums are shunning it though, as there aren't enough kids from ambitious middle class kids attending, and they want their kids to start networking with the right people at the right age. The children are 3! Networking over a bit of playdough and talking of cacca, pipi, etc.

franca70 · 02/03/2007 10:05

. too right. ds is a master in poopoo networking!

mediterraneo · 02/03/2007 14:34

My ds is finishing his phd in caca and pipi, I bet you are really envious!

franca70 · 02/03/2007 16:23

aren't you hothousing him then??

mediterraneo · 02/03/2007 19:56

We only use tutors for his numeracy/language and music skills, my dear. The state sector just cannot keep up with his development.

franca70 · 02/03/2007 21:28

. I read ds some alberoni...

mediterraneo · 02/03/2007 21:41

My ds has memorised Alberoni's masterpiece "Erotismo", I think that in this day and age the earlier he starts comparing male and female erotism the better. My ds loves talking about his willy, so I believe good old Alberoni is already having an impact on him.

franca70 · 02/03/2007 21:53

lol!
By the way when is he starting reception? ou must have told me but my memory's gone...

mediterraneo · 02/03/2007 22:03

autumn 2008, ages away. i want him to stay small, and lovely, and know very little.

franca70 · 02/03/2007 22:30

have to say mine is quite ignorant...

mediterraneo · 02/03/2007 22:57

i wonder what happened to all the others mumsnet laydeeez. maybe they have a life? done lots of reading of net newspapers, and listened to the radio, do you ever listen to rai radio 3? it has very interesting programs.

franca70 · 03/03/2007 13:32

lol. no, I've never listened to rai 3 here, but I'd love to. do you listen through the pc?

mediterraneo · 03/03/2007 15:12

yes on the pc. my favourite is Il terzo anello: Damasco. You can listen to the ones that have been archived. Cannot to links but here is an explanation:

franca70 · 03/03/2007 19:36

Sounds just like my thing! I could listen to it while trying to translate...

mediterraneo · 04/03/2007 19:48

whilst trying to mumsnet you mean.
Been busy today wondering if i am pregnant as period is late and i feel nauseous, head achy, bloated, generally crap, but in a very good mood.....probably my mind playing tricks.
