DS is sick, what would a good Italian mum cook for him? First time he is properly sick, I need to cook him something, even if he might not eat it...

Actually the bbc only dedicated 5 mins to them, so have no idea who won! it was going to be my treat. Spent the pm with a mum from school at her place. My ds and her ds run and jumped and played rough with each other and really enjoyed it. Is this what boys do when they are together one to one? Most of his 'friendships' till now have actually been with girls. I am scared.

franca70 · 27/02/2007 17:49

I'm afraid so. I started a thread this afternoon, because ds, since he started going to school, hasn't mentioned a girl's name. (when he was at nursery he played a lot with girls). He told me that girls don't want to play with boys . I used to have so many male friends...
ds usually plays with the son of my friend here. I think they are quite good together. they get very excited (talk a lot about poo etc), but also manage long stretches of time playing really nicely. I think it's normal for them to play a bit rough, if they like each other they'll soon find other things to do together, I think...
as for the oscars, I checked on repubblica.it. Scorzese bagged a few. and pan's labyrinth, which is the only one I actually saw (very good, in my opinion)

franca70 · 27/02/2007 17:49

scorsese

mediterraneo · 27/02/2007 19:59

lol at Scorzese (sounds a bit like scamorza).
I will go and read the paper on line then. Volver hasn't won then? Really liked that. It's a bit sad that boys won't play with girls anymore as they get older, I thought as much though. I played a lot with my big brother, but merely because he couldn't get away from me.
What happened to the other Italian mumsnetters? I think the moment you mentioned Alberoni, they run a mile.

franca70 · 27/02/2007 20:34

oh, yes I forgot about volver, I saw that one too. I enjoyed it. As I said I played a lot with my male schoolmates. At primary school one of my best friend was a little boy, in fact. He was the funniest and wittiest and we share a passion for peanuts and topolino. we also walked home from school together. and do homeworks togehter etc. and growing up I always had male friends. boh.
Yes, it looks like it's just the two of us. it was alberoni methinks. or bevilacqua??

mediterraneo · 27/02/2007 20:52

It was Alberoni and that awful wife of his.

Started a thread in Other subjects about teaching Italian to children, a sort of club with songs, nursery rhymes, etc. Trying to find out if there is a market for it.

franca70 · 28/02/2007 21:27

are you going to read chapters of salvalaggio?

mediterraneo · 28/02/2007 21:38

Nooooo, but will introduce the beauty of Alberoni's prose, start them young I say.
Seriously, what do you think of this idea of teaching It to little ones in small groups? Is it something you have considered? Trying to think of money spinning ideas!

franca70 · 28/02/2007 21:55

actually, I've never thought about it. Thought about giving some basic italian cooking lessons...

franca70 · 28/02/2007 21:56

sounds like a good idea to me

mediterraneo · 28/02/2007 21:59

there is certainly a market for italian cooking. you could be an italian nigella. I am crap at cooking, but I cook a lot.

franca70 · 28/02/2007 22:01

I'm afraid I don't have her ahem assets...

mediterraneo · 28/02/2007 22:05

a bit of tissues and you are away.
she does have beautiful big eyes too. i think you should consider teaching cooking to local mum from your home. Get a website going , do some marketing and you are away.

franca70 · 28/02/2007 22:12

first I should knock my SIL and smuggle her to the uk... she is the real great cook in the family... I'm not as good a cook as I'd like to be...

mediterraneo · 28/02/2007 22:14

yes, but your clients don't have to know that.

franca70 · 28/02/2007 22:18

mediterraneo · 01/03/2007 20:46

do you have any good recipes for torte, bored with mine.

mediterraneo · 01/03/2007 20:47

cakes I mean.

franca70 · 01/03/2007 20:56

hi, yes, what would you fancy? chocolate, meringue, lemon????

franca70 · 01/03/2007 20:57
mediterraneo · 01/03/2007 22:01

LEMOOOON!
Che depressione oggi, thinking about what to do with my life, ds' future, dh & I, etc. Also been reading thread about allocation of school places and feel need to get out of UK, surely it isn't so complicated. I wasn't made for the modern world. In my dear mother's life I would have been looking after the children, endlessly beating carpets on the balcony, washing floors, taking the children to the beach, and that would have been a world of happiness. Modern life is very stressfull. Ahhhhhhh! Hence the cake idea to cheer me up, need to fatten up ds, but will merely fatten myself up.
I must say mumsnet does give a view of a slice of UK society, don't you think? I find it fascinating and depressing as well.
I am rabbiting on.

franca70 · 01/03/2007 22:15

ok I'll go look for it. Ds is developing a sweet tooth, hence I've decided i should bake for him and today I went to the library and took.... salvalgaggio... no, nigella's how to be a domesitc goddess.
no, please don't be depressed. It's actually a good period for me, when I think: It's allright etc etc. I spent the last 7 yrs worrying... because lets face it I still feel a bit like a social outcast here. I don't know why there is such a big deal about school here. Certainly in Italy things were a bit more laid back, but probably because up until a few years ago state school were on average more reliable. maybe? who knows? I don't know Italy anymore and I don't know england either. It'd be easier being in Milan surrounded by my friends, who are more or less like me, and pretending that the world in general is not so bad. yeah right.
