DS is sick, what would a good Italian mum cook for him? First time he is properly sick, I need to cook him something, even if he might not eat it...

no, pippi, she's not too young to go to salina ! pil have a house there, we went three times already with the children, and last year (dd was 2, ds just turned four) was actually perfect (we went in august, but luckily it wan't too hot)
rosa5, we are going to an agriturismo near volterra, 20 km from bolgheri and the seaside. we are going with 3 couples of friends (and therefore lots of children).

franca70 · 16/03/2007 13:58

is it really going to snow??

Rosa5 · 16/03/2007 14:07

Volterra I once saw Andrea Bocelli in concert there. Was living in Casole at the time . It was magical. I love that area the wine , the good oil , the food ! Hope its a good time for you.
Not sure about the UK but here they say rain from Sunday and temps dropping by about 8-10 degrees. So have not put away the winter coats just yet .

franca70 · 16/03/2007 14:16

My mum is here and just told me that she was really upset that she bought a really heavy coat for the winter and has never been able to wear it becuase it's been so mild! I know it probably rains more in Venice, but the area around milan does need a bit of rain (desertification is looming!).
Yes, that area is amazing, don't know tuscany as well as I should, I hope we'll be able to go to san gimignano etc.

Rosa5 · 16/03/2007 14:23

Its bad over here as well. The Po is really at low levels and they are saying it will be a bad summer if it does not rain more. I have worn my heavy long winter coat once and my down coat a few times in January.

San Gim..Do go into the park at the top entrance is to the right of the church ( sort of behind) and go to the far corner you used to be able to get up the tower - not many people seem to go (!) and there is a bit of shade in the park if its a hot day.
How wonderful having Nonna there bet your dc are happy.

franca70 · 16/03/2007 14:30

I thought the situation was a bit better on the east... and also very worried emoticon.
Yes, it's nice having my mum around, though yesterday ds had a friend visiting and my mum spent her time chasing his little brother around in order to wipe his nose in a typical italian nonna fashion, that has probably alienated the little boys' mother...

Rosa5 · 16/03/2007 14:37

Nah ...My mother would have done the same and she is English .In fact she would have shoved a tissue in his pocket and made him use it !

franca70 · 16/03/2007 14:42

LOL! my mum infact shoved a tissue in ds' pocket before walking him to school!

mediterraneo · 16/03/2007 14:52

What's with nonne and bitses of tissue?
I want an icecream!

It seems that Nonne sia Inglese o Italiano do just the same .
Med wanting for an Ice cream ...are u sure you are not pregnant ? I loved ACE and mandarin ice cream when I was pregnant.. Wierd, as I am not fussed over ice cream unless its a real gelato fatto bene.
Califrau tuo Italiano e tanto meglio della mia ....I haven't got enough courage to scrivere tanto I will do toooooo many errori !

PippiLangstrump · 16/03/2007 19:57

my mum is here as well. Isn't it great franca? I am enjoying a few lie ins, the house cleaned every day and dinner ready I can tell you that!
she is here for two weeks... super bliss. it also means that DH and I can go for a few drinks.

this Nonna is obsessed with DD wearing slippers...

mediterraneo · 16/03/2007 20:01

Io sono incinta, ma la tecnologia non e' d'accordo con me!

Lol at ace icecream rosa5!
My mum is leaving on sunday... house is supertidy, and she told me off today because I wouldn't let her do the ironing... and pippi, she went through a slippers phase as well! I remember once, she came to visit that ds was about 7 months, and when she was leaving she told me: Mi raccomando, curamelo bene!!!! lol!
califrau, your italiano is very good
Med, hai le "voglie"? I'm really keeping my fingers crossed for you.

franca70 · 16/03/2007 20:21

Barefoot in the garden in february!? I'm shocked

Rosa5 · 17/03/2007 08:17

Ohhh noooo the slipper phase my MIL ( Italiano ) has a fixation with slippers / shoes. When we go to her house the slippers are all lined up for us to wear ..they are used to me going barefoot in the warmer months now ( just after 8 yrs). She bought I don't know how many pairs of slipper socks that dd just pulls off. For the winter I bought the starchild shoes to keep normal socks on as I do have cold marble floors.Non vanno bene non supportano bene il piede ..Roba stranno inglese...So I bought another pair !!!!

franca70 · 17/03/2007 09:49

I had so many rows with my mum, as I've never wanted to wear slippers (we had wooden floor and carrpet in our, really warm, flat!). Yes, and this thing about children shoes that the ankle should bbe supported... grrrr. I think barefoot is excellent for toddlers. However, I usually buy the children's shoes in Italy, simply because I like them better.
Another fixation: my maternal nonno (who passed away 5 yrs ago, bless him) didn't want us to wear trainers, like superba, because the material "non faceva respirare il piede". LOL

Rosa5 · 17/03/2007 14:25

Anche nonna said that about trainers she went and bought Geox for my nipote ( Italiano)
I get rather annoyed with this shoe fixation but just try to let it go over my head ! Nonna is convinced that dd should be in ankle grabbers as her startrite toddler shoes are hindering her walking !
I love some of the Naturino and Valleverde sandals but dd is on the verge of walking and as and when she does I will look at getting them....senza nonna. Pero they are un po caro.
Another Nonna fixation are the ears being covered in the slightest breeze.

franca70 · 17/03/2007 17:00

And that's typically italian as well. I do the same though... . I myself wear a hat until April... . Shoes are probably a bit more expensive, but I love gusella sandali coi buchi, I used to wear them as a child as well. And I like kickers (which nonne usually love)

Lol cali! yes, my nonno was appalled by the fact that we had supergas (great for winning gare di puzza dei piedi with friends)

mediterraneo · 18/03/2007 17:04

Where is the snow that we were promised????
Freezing wind though, here in the East End...is there any snow near you?

franca70 · 18/03/2007 17:45

no snow and freezing wind here as well, med. How is it going, btw?

mediterraneo · 18/03/2007 19:08

I still feel pregnant, tomorrow I am finally seeing the gp. Have an incredible migraine this pm, not sure if it's the pregnancy or a bug. Spent the pm with a hot water bottle on my head, wondering if I should take a paracetamol...Cannot remember if they are safe in pregnancy.
