'troll' label too quickly applied on mnet

Often recently, I've noticed that when someone starts a thread that appears controversial to many, they are quickly dismissed as a troll.
To some extent I accept that, as it's not impossible that people start threads to stir things up.
But is it not possible that after having started a thread that everyone starts railing against, the original poster feels a bit cowed by the criticism and doesn't fancy returning.

I bet they have a book on each thread that turns 'troll hunt'.

If its not going in their favour, they stroll along and post about 'Mumsnet Philosophy', to try and steer things in their favour.
