DD1 (sometimes known as tuesdayafternoon) has just rung me from uni to say that she has got a 2.1!

Her housemates are jumping up and down but she is feeling a bit "is that it?" - some encouraging words, anybody? (she has never graduated before! )

Wow! Congratulations - that is fantastic news - she has a better degree than me (I got a Desmond)

Toothache · 10/06/2004 14:52

WOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I remember that feeling well!! I didn't sober up between then and the graduation ball though (3wks).... my eyeballs went yellow!

Probably not what you wanted to hear.

WELL DONE JANH'S BABY! Go forth and seek employment....

CountessDracula · 10/06/2004 14:52

Tell her it's much much better than a Desmond! (2.2)

And many congratulations, how fantastic xx

They already had the graduation ball (I thought it was the wrong way round!) (Oh, I don't know, though...)

That's really great. I can understand a bit how she feels though. At the end of my uni course I was a bit "All this hard work for just this lousy piece of paper? That's all I get?" Se will probably appreciate it more with a bit of time. Mind you I still feel a bit "So what?" about it all, even when I went back and got my Masters!!!

roisin · 10/06/2004 14:57

Congratulations your dd1!

What a great achievement. All that hardwork has paid off and she can now put those magic letters after her name.

Very well done to your first born!!!

Well done to your dd1, Janh!! What is her degree in and what does she want to do now? And what are you all doing to celebrate?

Ds2 is awaiting his result - he's just gone off to the US on holiday today and it's bound to arrive while he's away. He's making up his mind whether to take up a PhD post or get a 'real' job. Ds1 starts a Masters/Doctorate at UCLA in Sept - if both boys take up the academic option, as well as dd1, we'll have three children at uni next year. Thank goodness we'll only have to pay for one of them!!

Marina · 10/06/2004 16:44

Many congratulations to her, janh, wonderful news!

Pes · 10/06/2004 16:53

Oh well done to your clever girl!

Advice on the "is that it?" feeling? Erm...party now, worry about the overdraft later? That's what I did

Serioulsy though, I do remember feeling a bit cast adrift after graduating - but looking back, it was just the beginning....

Tinker · 10/06/2004 17:52

Fab news JanH

Fairyfly · 10/06/2004 17:56

Well done Miss Janh Jr Ba, and well done Janh for teaching her everything you know

Janh · 10/06/2004 17:56

Thank you so much, everybody, she will love seeing all these! And I am Very Proud ( Proud Mother Smiley!)

Her degree is in Linguistics and Phonetics. She enjoyed the Phonetics part most but it doesn't seem to be a subject you can do much with except further study and she doesn't want to do that quite yet...the obvious career path is Speech Therapy but that is another whole degree these days, ditto. So it'll probably be some kind of Graduate Recruitment job and then see...

Anyway she'll be home for a week on Saturday and then off to Summer Camp in New York until August - a bit difficult to fit in a family celebration though because we have a Chernobyl child coming tomorrow for 4 weeks...! DS1 will be getting his GCSE results in late August, so probably we'll wait until then and have a double celebration (or a combined celebration/wake Demented Mother Smiley).
