Termdates.co.uk - word of caution

Check and double check before believing their verified dates. I've booked a holiday after looking at their published dates and it turns out they were incorrect. They've not had the courtesy of replying to my calls or emails either!

I'm not expecting any replies, this is just a word of warning.

Whenever I google term dates for our area, those stupid commercial sites always come up ahead of our LEA. I never, ever use them - I always scroll down for our LEA's term dates link - which are always correct. Why anyone would rely on a commercial provider when booking a holiday is beyond me!

SvalbardianPenguin · 03/09/2016 07:58

They are wrong for all three schools that I know as well.

I don't see the point of using such a website; the local authorities put the term dates up on their websites and the schools put up the dates with the inset days as well and they are far more accurate.

Chickydoo · 03/09/2016 07:59

Oh Dear Jason, this isn't going well today is it.
I think you might have a long day ahead at your laptop Grin

Biscetti · 03/09/2016 08:00

Yup, ours are all wrong too.

Sparklingbrook · 03/09/2016 08:00

There are similar sites with shop opening hours on. Wouldn't trust them either. Just Google the shop.

SoupDragon · 03/09/2016 08:01

Primary school wrong!
Secondary school wrong!

Termdates.co.uk is really a pile of crap isn't it?

CadburyChocolateCrunchie · 03/09/2016 08:02

Why would you not just check with the school??

Number4OnTheWay · 03/09/2016 08:02

My kids school has just 90 pupils, by definition its a very small village school. We have a website, I checked your dates against it and guess what!? Wrong wrong wrong.
Its really not going well for you Jason is it :(

Bearsinmotion · 03/09/2016 08:02

Ours is wrong, unless DD really should have started yesterday! I'm with other posters though - why not just check the (small village primary!) school or LEA website?! That seems to be more than all Jason is doing!

OiWithThePoodlesAlready · 03/09/2016 08:02

Mine were right. Although it didn't show in service days.

But...what the hell is the point of the website? Confused I had to do more clicking and typing than I do when I just Google 'xxx Council term dates'. Very bizarre!

ophiotaurus · 03/09/2016 08:02

I just use the council website (Scotland). Think you've shot yourself in the foot Jason.

Brokenbiscuit · 03/09/2016 08:02

A lot of mentions re the LEA website as well - just a word of caution against relying on these if your child is at an academy (which includes virtually all schools in my local area), as academies set their own dates and don't always follow the LEA guidelines.

JudyCoolibar · 03/09/2016 08:03

Just checked DD's school - every single beginning and end of term date wrong. It's slightly better on half terms but has the autumn half term wrong.

For all that they've got a bump in website traffic today, I now know not to bother in the future.

SoupDragon · 03/09/2016 08:04

I always use the school's own website. Always accurate and not run by some numpty trying to get advertising revenue.

Crispsheets · 03/09/2016 08:05

I suggest Jason contacts failed.business.co.uk later today.

Houseconfusion · 03/09/2016 08:06

jason has got his coat sock and left the building

Sparklingbrook · 03/09/2016 08:06

I would like to see the business on Dragons Den. So it can be explained fully.

SoupDragon · 03/09/2016 08:09

A lot of mentions re the LEA website as well - just a word of caution against relying on these if your child is at an academy (which includes virtually all schools in my local area), as academies set their own dates and don't always follow the LEA guidelines

And they take no account of INSET days, a error which will apply to every single school.

Jason's "research" seems to have been to simply google all the LEAs and copy the dates.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 03/09/2016 08:10

Actually roared with laughter when Jason created that second account to leave some support for Original Jason! Grin so obvious!

Oh Jase, come on mate!

SoupDragon · 03/09/2016 08:11

If we type Termdates.co.uk enough times on this thread does it bring it closer to the top of Google results?

just checked my school and term start dates are all wrong. According to the website the school started on 1st September when in fact its the 5th.

Bit of a pointless website really as I can just go onto my schools website and access all the correct information there. The school also send a newsletter with dates on as well.

YellowShockedFace · 03/09/2016 08:12

Wrong for mine too - good thing I checked as I was going to book a holiday.

JennyBunn · 03/09/2016 08:13

Our school dates seem to be correct on it but why the hell would I use that site instead of the school one? It obviously can't be relied on anyway Confused.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 03/09/2016 08:13

Just checked for first day of preschool - wrong (Cheshire). Also checked for my nephew's school in Scotland, wrong

Am wondering how Jason is "helping" the school verify their dates?! Confused. Does that mean phoning the school and saying you have unilaterally decided their term dates for them - which are not the ones they have decided - and are going to put them up on a website and confuse people?!
